Thanks for that info. I have been having trouble sourcing one of these amps. Now that they are back in business, I have scored one. I don't have it yet, but was hoping to be able to achieve cleans. I might try a 5751 in that position.
I have this amp and a PRS MT15 and all that's needed to make the Jet City as good as the PRS are three very simple mods. The depth knob mod, the saturation switch mod and the channel switch mod. All three can be done with less than $20 dollars in parts.
@jakubhap7728 Jet City, Mike Soldano modified Marshalls. Paul Reed Smith is basically a clone of Mesa Boogie, which is originally a modified Fender. I can make both ams sound nearly identical.
I found a used Soldano designed Jet City JCA20H or $280AUD. The seller was so awesome, he dropped off some spare valves. It's my new favourite British-voiced head. It's basically a JCM800-type but with a bit of a different EQ - almost Deluxe Reverb in the top end. It's almost Plexi, I mean the thing is fkn gorgeous. It's an earlier model, single channel, 20W, no effects loop, no frills. I set it up for mild breakup and hit it with pedals (Fuzz/Boost/Overdrive) and it's perfect. The upper mids are a bit different to this one, but it's so hard to say given all the other variables (speakers, cab, guitars and pups, UA-cam compression, etc etc) but it has a light, "airy" top end. That presence control is on the JCA20H and is goddam powerful. The amp can take me from early Floyd, Jimi and Jimmy through to SRV and onto Metallica and Rammstein and back to my Indie Rock jangle roots - it almost does it all, with good guitars and a few good pedals. If you can find any of these Soldano designed Jet City amps, listen to the man in the video: buy it!
The amp sounds sick, and is really loud. I've been eyeing one of these at my local shop, it's been on a sale for really long now, probably because nobody knows what it's capable of :D
I've had mine for over a year now, and i do NOT regret that purchase at all, i managed to pick it up for 275$, after taxes! It's got all the grit, volume, and ear shattering gain that many of my nicer amps can't get near and theyre full sized amps! nevermind the fact that the value per dollar is INSANE! i've spent many hours enjoying cranking this thing up, and the eq and gain controls are powerful enough to really offer vast tonal ranges from barely clean, to just.... grinding.... I do really want to have a depth mod added but i find cranking the bass and cutting mids and treble, with presence around 5 or 6 brings on a similarly chunky and very nasty palm muting feel. it has given me some of my most enjoyable jam sessions ever since covid and it will be one of the last amps if not THE last amp I allow my cold dead fingers to let go of.
The hot rod is basically an SLO without the normal/bright, clean/crunch switches and the depth knob (that's also not standard in the original SLO). But they do have some awesome mods, to make it as good as the new SLO.
Would love to get one of these someday. The lack of clean channel is a bit disappointing. Maybe I will get to a point when I will be able to afford two amps and a nice cab, then getting the Jet City will be a no-brainer. Blackstar HT-5 is getting the work done for now. Love your content man, cheers!
I have a JCA50 cost me £250 a few years ago, and I use it more than the 5150 and JCM800 I own I use single coils so I can get the crunch channel clean, and I boost on the Lead with an OD (Walrus Audio Mayflower) I have also found you have to tame the treble but when you do you get a brilliant modern metal sound, but also everything from classic rock through classic metal , depending on how you set up the eq and how you boost it, with a fuzz you can do doomy stuff very well with it on the crunch channel. Very versatile amp
You are definitely able to bring every amp to shine. It seems, that the Jet City sounds more crunchy and open than the PRS MT15. During my own recordings i realized, that its mostly not necessary, to dial in massive amounts of gain. Especially not, when the guitar is double tracked left and right.
Now that I had the Jet City a while at home and I switched back and forth with the PRS, I'm seeing different purposes in the amps. I found the Jet City is better for recording because it doesn't have mountains of low-end like the PRS has, that you will cut out later in the mix anyway, but man does the MT15 push some air if you play it through a big cab. The JCA is even tighter in response I think, and I prefer the high-end which has a certain enjoyable "sizzle" to it. I love both, so I might as well just keep them stacked on top of eachother like I have now haha
@@MilianMalivukMusic Did you actually find the jet city tight? Oh man, you are in for a treat if you crank a 100watt soldano or framus especially boosted. Or a brunetti crunch boosted. Maybe it's different that what I've experienced.

I know this is an old comment, but where do you find out about these mods? I have an JCA22H and would love to have the depth/resonance knob, channel switch or other mods if available. I would appreciate it if you can get back with me regarding my questions. Thank you so much..
Hey , awesome tone . Just grabbed the jca100hdm and I’m just wondering is your modded or stock ??this video what the final straw to make me pull the trigger on buying
I have the single channel JCA20HV (more vintage sounding/lower gain). These amps might only be 20 watts BUT they are loud af. I'm not just saying that. It feels way way louder than my 20 watt Peavey 6505MH. I gigged with it (pre-Covid) and it kept up with a band (with no mic) just fine. Not sure if it's the same for the JCA22H but I'm sure it's similar. If you have neighbors/live in an apartment a load box would be very useful because even with the master volume control it gets loud fast.
I have the JCA20H myself, and it can certainly get loud! Do you find it usable at really low volumes? I tried mine at bedroom levels and was amazed. It sounded excellent, with appropriate EQ and a bit of a push from a compressor and Maxon TB-09 (a duo I use when playing small amps like a Fender Champ or the cool little Laney Cubs, which can do
I've found one with a cabinet for 340e. Even with the shipping costs might be worth it, still I don't know if I might be clean enough for me. Sounds amazing in dirty/crunch settings tough, seems like an amazing amp for the price for sure.
Put a 12at7 in V1 Now it's clean Even at loud volume Crank up the pre amp Channel 1 gets Perfect & dirty. & That change doesn't affect Your no 2 Hot Over drive Channel You so got more than enough of gain on Tap Ready to go. It kills my marshall origin.
This is the "normal" Jet City JCA22H amp. The Jet City Soldano version says "designed by Soldano" on the front and back, which is not the case with your version. The two amps sound a little different but both sound great.
I see that they are making amps again...and still very affordable...I just picked up a used single channel 20 watt for 225.... really great amp and I hear that they are very easy to mod....hovercrafts use these amp as their base for their amps....

I've found that using a 12au7 in the V1 gets a warmer thicker overdrive and still has plenty of overdrive, never had to turn the overdrive pre-amp above 5. Using the stock 12ax7 is just too mushy, maybe not in a real Soldano (I'd hate to 2nd guess Mike)..but in these JCAs that is my tried and true preference.
There must be an attenuator somewhere because your "room sound" with the overdrive at "5" sounds like mine with the overdrive at "1", lol. (I probably can't hear my strings anymore with the volume at 2). Edit: Torpedo captor, yup.
sounds great I will have a look around If i might be able to shoot one perhaps. I think are some really good and cheap budget amp heads. I think the Marshall dsl 20HR looks great, the old Marshall Valvestates (which were used by Chuck Shuldiner can be super cheap too). Randall RG series is pretty cheap.
I’m not sure how hot your pickups are but this amp can achieve fairly decent cleans, it also helps if you change out the v1 valve for a lower gain one if you want. There is still enough gain on tap after this. It’s also worth noting that the crunch channel is very close to a jcm800
Sounds really amazing , a comperrison between the prs mt15 and the Jca22h would be really nice :)
I put a 12AY7 tube in V1, it gives a "cleaner" sound on the crunch channel. The depth mod also added a way to manage the harshness of the stock amp.
