Anyway, I bet this 100w version would better compare with the SLO, fuller as 100w’s are compared to 50w, and has the depth pot as Kyle mentioned.

They are still out there, you just have to stay vigilant. I got one in pretty much new shape from GC just a few months ago for $279 (+ shipping) so it worked out to about $340. Was actually surprised they listed it that low. It is on my bench getting the full SLO treatment as I type this.

The preamps are identical, the difference is in the quality of materials, pieces and workmanship. However this series has Soldan'os name on the chassis and he traveled frequently to China at the time to oversee production, before getting out of the contract. This resulted in a pretty solid build and while some customers had issues at first (the 333 mark on the chassis), this series was turning out safe and reliable heads in the mid 10's. It's possible you wouldn't hear any difference between 2 preamps run through the same PA. Very expensive Soldano transformers make the biggest difference in sound between these 2 heads
The 50h has more of 500Hz honky mids, the SLO has a bigger frequency spectrum and sounds more balanced and thicker. I think if you had the JCA100 there would be no lack in thickness and frequency-wideness. They would be even closer I'd guess.

The entire video I was thinking the Soldano was kicking the JC's ass, but when you got to the last riff before the actives I thought that the JC really got there. When you think you can get (or could) almost 10 of the jet cities for 1 Soldano, that's pretty crazy. I don't have a vested interest in either brand and I stumbled across this because you're on my FB feed in a few groups we mutually belong to; and I also came across a JCA800 ad. When I did a quick google, your video on this came up; and well, here I am lol.
at the very beginning, I preferred the SLO 100 as the mids were less stuffy. Once you got to dialling them in, I much prefer how you had the JCA50 set, its more open with more top end. Jet City would have used cheaper pots with looser tolerances, so the tapers may be a bit more random than with nicer pots. Later on when you dialled them in by ear rather than matching values, I really couldn't tell you one sounded better than the other. I'm actually a little surprised as I thought the 50W headroom would hold the JCA back a bit, but it more than holds its own. Overall, I think I actually slightly preferred the JCA here, but I think its totally down to how they were dialled in. SLO 100 is no doubt an amazing amp, and well worth it for those that want that thing. The Jet City is perfect for anyone who wants that vibe on a budget and maybe isnt fussed about owning the real deal. Great video Kyle, thanks for going to the trouble of doing this!
Been a while since I commented on one of your videos! But these two really are close! Something I did notice though when you engaged the boost. The Jet City was a bit more aggressive than the SLO was almost like 5150. But despite that, the SLO had the sauce. The special sauce that makes it the king of high gain amps. The SLO didn't seems to like those Fishman's though for some odd reason. Keep up the great work tho Thrash Damon!
It's fun that everybody complains about the Fizz on original 5150s/6505. Nobody complains about the same Fizz in the Attack and Palm Mutes on the SLO. There is the sweetness of these Amps. Fizz = more Overtones. The Jet City is a bit more Chunky and a bit faster. Great Amp.
I do! The SLO and 5150 are definitely more similar than different, but I'm not a big fan of either. I do like REVV's approach to this style of distortion though.
There's something in the Jet City 50 that I prefer to the SLO. I think it's a saturarion/clarity thing. It is like a limitation with the JCA is actually helping it to my ears. I'm almost hearing as if it were in stereo with a stong gain side cab and a weaker clean signal still punching through. Does that make any sense? To be fair, I just got the SLO mini and Friedman mini amps the other day and currently am seemingly not an SLO guy. So that may well be carrying into my perception of the SLO100 vs JCA50. Friedman mini is noisy but awesome. Zuul+ doing 4 cable work. I appreciate your goofy ass. Keep doing what you do.
The Jet city sounds chunkier and faster in the Attack. In defense of Kyle, that is something you can tell on the recording. With a loud cab in the same Room Kyle could't hear that i think.

I'd be curious to hear the JetCity with an upgunned transformer. Mike Soldano himself said he thought the JetCity OTs were under spec'd. Fwiw I think the JC would be far more effective in a mix than the SLO, especially in a two guitar band.
I don't think he said that they were underspec'd. He said they were fine on Tone Talk, but they won't be anywhere near as beefy and OVERbuilt as the SLO trannies
I live one neighborhood over from a guy who build super accurate slo clones as he worked for soldano in the 90s and i may end up putting an slo transformer in my jet city for fun
JCA50H is basically Soldano Hotrod 50 with cheaper transformers which is the biggest difference. Both amps more heated would show better where they are. Whatever, these Jet City series were probably the best buy for the price ever
For me; this video was a great reminder why I don't like the SLO. That weird chewy low end. It sounds great on Dr Feelgood, but not in my hands. I liked the Jet City more honestly.
Love the Edward’s LP custom, I’ve been really wanting a LP, but I just can’t pay what Gibsons are going for. I’ve always liked all the Japanese Les Paul copies from Edward’s, Navigator and Tokai. I’ve about decided if I ever get one it’ll more than likely be a Tokai thanks to Euge’s channel and all his cool Tokai guitars. I think the Edward’s and Navigators are a little more than I want to pay . I’ve always played fender style bolt on strat type guitars mainly a mid 90s MIJ RG550 and if I’m going to spend more than 1500 on a guitar it’d have to be something that I know I would like. Anyway that’s an awesome Edward’s got major Randy Rhodes vibes going on. I’ve always wanted to try a Jet City amp, everyone was crazy about them a few years ago especially people modding them. It was cool to be able to get a Soldano based design by the man himself in an affordable package that could be modded and upgraded. I think the Jet City in this video looks bad ass also, not as cool as the Soldano but it has a solid look don’t look cheap
My son and I play Greco's, those are Gibson killer's. My son has a 1979 Greco LP Standard and I have a late 80's Greco SG Standard and there is no need to buy a Gibson after these. Booth were $700 and $800 so less than a used Gibson, to be honest I've never played a Gibson that was worth the asking price and we Greg to try quite a few out at our favorite used shop. We've tried a Burney and that was really nice but it was like $1600, I've also tried a Tokai that was $1200 and it felt good but that's Gibson prices still.
@@SaintKines I’ve heard the Burnys are awesome and think they look better than most of the old Japanese Epiphones I’ve seen although the Japanese epiphones are cool too. I started playing in the 90s when everyone still hated on Japanese guitars. I remember people talking trash about Burneys but they were made in Fugi Gen . I have always preferred Japanese Fenders even back in the 90s.
@@1thess523 I guess if you’re talking about a Gibson tribute or used SGs for 1200 or a studio, it’s hard to find a used standard for less than 1700 . A couple years ago 1200 for a Tokai would’ve been too steep I agree but currently 1200 for a Love Rock with lp standard specs is a decent deal I think especially a MIJ Tokai. I’d love to have an old Greco or lawsuit era Japanese LP but it’s hard to find one that isn’t 2 grand and too far away to try out. I couldn’t spend that kind of money on a 45 year old guitar sight unseen. I’ve played some of the Gibson tributes that I really liked but I don’t really feel good about supporting their brand and it might sound silly but I feel like buying a Japanese LP with the open book headstock is my immature way of protesting Gibson’s bullying of smaller companies and in some cases private luthiers .
The Jet City is way close enough for government work, & certainly close enough for me considering the $ I'll keep in my pocket. Don't get me wrong; The bragging rights of owning a Soldano is cool and all but not at their prices.
there are different slo mods. some sound far better then others do. id be curious to know exactly which mod this is schem wise, also the 100hdm modded sounds much closer imo to the slo100 (at least to mine it does) it adds the depth control which does make a difference. i may have missed it but does this 50h have the depth knob? that really helps with the low end imo
As a media professional I have to say this: don't speak to various cameras! Use them, use different plans for cutting your speach, but only look to one camera while you're speaking! Its not cool and looks very amateur! Have you ever seen that on TV or on a Documentary? ;) (keep on the good work)

I prefer the Jet City over the SLO
JCA50H is basically Soldano Hotrod 50 with cheaper transformers which is the biggest difference. Both amps more heated would show better where they are. Whatever, these Jet City series were probably the best buy for the price ever
I wonder where the name Jet City came from.(?) Where is Jet City? Seattle?
I like the sound of the jet city better then the SLO. On my headphones, the jet city was better
Just get a Boss Katana head, and hook it to your favorite 4x12 cab. Use the "Brown" channel. ( Poor mans SLO! )
Nice Edwards.
Please share schematics !
Well now I wanna hear the jet city before the mod. Lol
The Burny's are awesome too. As good as any of the "lawsuit era" copies.
@@1thess523 that's the problem with a lot of those good Japanese lawsuit LPs, the secrets been out for awhile so finding a nice deal is hard.
i actually prefer the jet city, its more tame and better for modern proggy stuff
no more 50.100w and no more amelia. he stated it will be a while before any more of even if he ever does those again
The character is the same but the Jet City just sounds as much cheaper as it is. Not bad at all though!
The SLO sounds more open.
You are still comparing a 50w to a 100w and both have different tubes and possibly have the power tubes biased differently. Super close considering!
The Jet City is way close enough for government work, & certainly close enough for me considering the $ I'll keep in my pocket. Don't get me wrong; The bragging rights of owning a Soldano is cool and all but not at their prices.
that JCA got more mid punch 👊
there are different slo mods. some sound far better then others do. id be curious to know exactly which mod this is schem wise, also the 100hdm modded sounds much closer imo to the slo100 (at least to mine it does) it adds the depth control which does make a difference. i may have missed it but does this 50h have the depth knob? that really helps with the low end imo
there is only one that matches the SLO premp circuit, that is this one
@@belligerentamateur gotcha. yeah some do some weird things then call it the slo mod I've seen a handful of them done wrong.
Still not a 4000euro difference in tone
Nearly identical.
comparing a 50 watt to a 100 watt, it will never sound the same.
Holy cow!!!
As a media professional I have to say this: don't speak to various cameras! Use them, use different plans for cutting your speach, but only look to one camera while you're speaking! Its not cool and looks very amateur! Have you ever seen that on TV or on a Documentary? ;) (keep on the good work)
if it's amateur, that's exactly what I'm going to continue doing. Thanks!
Que teimoso :) ahahha
$400 vs $4000. Frankly, as a JCA5012 Owner, there isn't $3600 worth of difference.
As a "Marshall Guy", the JC/Hot Rod 50 is an easy choice.
Jet city amps are poorly made and wont stand the test of time
Casa Del Toro Amazing, Build That Wall !
Please jesus play a different riff
NEVER BABY
@@belligerentamateur never mess with perfection
@@belligerentamateur We need a compilation of the same riff, but going through every single amp back-to-back.
Only then, can we tone chasers chase in a continuous loop. 🔁 😜
