I'm doing this job right now. As in im siting in the engine compartment right now. This is a very difficult job and now I understand why dealer prefers to swap the engine. 07 f150 5.4l 3v
Brian, on the Ford Tech Makuloko UA-cam channel, makes a good living replacing cam phasers and chain guides on thpse 5.4L 3 valve engines! The biggest reason they fail is the use of 5W20 oil. It's just not thick enough to properly actuate the components. The rest of the world uses 5W30, and they don't have this issue! Don't take my word for it. Go check out Brian's channel. He'll tell you the same thing.
Same problem i ran into when my oil pick t got clogged up, 2 timing chain guides broke off and bad timing chain tensioner, what a nightmare 🤕🤢🥶 it's getting back together now!
The host is a cutie! Also, I completely agree about replacing the chain, tensioner, and guides while you are in there. I would also replace the water pump while you are there. Plus if your spark plugs need to be replace, I would do it too (since they are out).
My '04 Mercury Marauder had regular oil changes but it was time and miles that caused the broken guide. 217K to be more precise. Unfortunately, it got sucked up into the pickup tube and you can imagine the rest. 😔
Engineer greetings, I need your help to solve my faults on Nissan Rogue 2008, the car has an difficult starting and I ask the owner what happened? He said the mechanic changed the engine from that time I had experience difficult starting,ok” he bring the car to and I checked everything and I saw the crankshaft was different from his old engine so I use the old crankshaft now the engine starts fast but after we finished everything and I hear the timing chain noise and I put the engine off , and I saw the chain tensioner failed and I changed it but now the is giving me rough idle when the engine started, plugs and ignition coils has been changed but still rough idle, can valves burn when the chain tensioner fail ? Kindly help me to solve the issue. Tanx am waiting your reply
My passenger it's at 11 the driver at 12 but crankshaft seems to be at 9, I rotated a couple of times but seems to fall in same place, how can I fix this???
You know what.. with all of that complexity, is this motor/engine, all "that more" efficient, than a good ole' CHEVY Small block? > Or, hell : Good ole' Ford 302/5.0? Really? Stick with the stuff that's more simple, less problem prone! A friend of mine at work told me of a certain synonym: K.eep I t S imple S tupid! KISS! I like that way!
actually most of the stuff you said wasn't accurate specifically to why the guide broke, it was fixed in a thicker guide.... not heat cycles and oil making plastic brittle LOL but ok decent video but lack of knowledge means you should stick to something else or letting a professional speak

0:54 To the DP: I like this shot. The wide is fine for perspective but this one is "cozy" and well-lit. Good job.

amazing how the big three designed timing chain guide failures in the last couple decades
Well the 4.6 2v could have plastic or medal guides
Do they sell metal replacement upgrades for these parts?
8 minute video for a 12 hour job
Can someone tell me if this is the same process for a 2008 F.150 5.4 V8 Fx2 ? And if so whats are those special tools called
Great video!
Hi I have a 1999 Lincoln navigator 5.4 dohc is this the same engine. I have a oil leak coming out of the passenger side timing chain cover
This is Ford or GM issue. It’s very rare that this happens on a Toyota Engines. That’s why Toyota is considered the best and most reliable engines.
For the timing chain guides can you get one in aluminum or steel or iron? Maybe have a machine shop manufacture one? Thanks
Medal was an option basically hit or miss if you got medals guides
Since your there why didn’t you replace the cam phasers?
Was hoping just to do my tensioner but found a broken piece of plastic under the valve cover

What would a job like this cost for a mechanic to do it?
Just in case remember to give the engine a turn to make certain no valves are making contact with pistons
Mine has broken twice now, next time it breaks I am just going to keep driving the thing!
Looks easy. But is not easy..thank
I hear that aftermarket parts don’t last no more than a year is that true…

Oh lord
What about the oil pump?
plastic inside an engine? ridiculous! I'm not even an engineer. Whose idea was that? An accountant? because they think short-term.
That 5.4 and that 4.6 are probably the worst two engines Ford ever made
With this video you will break the cover. It does not show how I remove the panel screws when I remove them so I go with another one, get ready

Good video but I only buy Ford parts
this is a 2v, DO NOT use the plastic adjusters, and you are due for followers, again this is a bad video for this work on this engine...
