LOVE this song, but I had limited listens to it until later years - - except when I'd spot Attack of the Killer B's at a party or in a friend's collection - - as my version of Leave Home was blessed with Carbona (can't wait for your take on that one!). The middle 8 (really 16, right?) is fantastic and I love the way Joey lands on the word SPY on the welcoming bed of the background vocals. I love the variation of the melody accent on the line "my special one" in the first verse (?) and the last verse (but also feel the tension of it). Lastly, I guess, is how I always felt that the key change, instead of adding tension as is sometimes the case by stretching the singers vocal range, like in maybe a Who song or something similar, gives Babysitter more resolve and the raised key actually sounds like a more natural key for the song for Joey. At least to my ears. Another great job Tom
dang! thanks for watching, glad you duggit.
it is indeed a track packed to bursting with delectable details, a true charmer which rewards repeat attention.
also, i don’t want to to overplay my hand- i am probable to revise the piece considerably- but you can google CARBONA NOT GLUE + HUMMING A SICKENING TUNE and find my ancient text version of that song’s review, plus all the other songs i filed before i petered out around ROCKET TO RUSSIA, & decide to start a youtube alternative. old links are probably dead though. haha
thanks again for the comments, i appreciate your thoughts. cheers
in many ways this is my favourite Ramones song.. catchy tune, powerful production, and great lyrics... it has everything, and is relentlessly upbeat and life affirming, which is what really sets the Ramones apart from other punk bands.. beneath all the cynicism and anger and staring down the ugly things in the world, the Ramones are at the end of the day optimists... it took me years to get a copy, and my first copy was on a very warped copy of Do You Wanna Dance
agreed on all points!
KILLER B’S was the first i heard it
thanks for watching
God damn holy shit!! I was not familiar with this one and it’s EVERYTHING. This is why The Ramones are the greatest band ever. You cannot write a better pop ballad. It’s impossible. Unless you’re a Ramone.
yeah it is genuinely awesome in startling amounts & unexpected ways
