SEX PISTOLS 1/8/1978 Tiger's Tales #4 ( SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT!) BUNCOMBE SHINOLA
THE song that hooked me. Gotta be top 5?
certainly in the Top 25 at least
On the Road was a fucking great book. I liked DeeDees book but On the Road was probably better. I'm just biased when it comes to DeeDee. Speaking DeeDee, I've got a little while before you talk about my favorite song which will be in the Ws. Lol. Monty was an underrated piece of the Ramones however
YES, MELNICKS! haha my fave W is probably from ROCKET, but i have a soft spot for WEASEL FACE. JOHNNY's book is wonderful as well, though obviously DEEDEE leans towards the more imaginative, unsurprisingly. thanks for watching!
Great video, sir. Great Tribute. We might quibble about this later, but no "biker movies"? C'mon. And I recall my first Corman picture being "Five Guns West" (1955). Directorial debut. With the luscious Dorothy Malone and Johnathan Haze! So, he had a few Westerns. Quite an impact on cinema and what fun movies!
DM is all i need to hear, i’m IN!!
That was fascinating and very well done. Bravo, Tom!
glad you duggit, thanks for watching!
That's fucking cool, Tom. I booked 27 Devils Joking when I worked at the Axiom in Houston when it first opened its doors. I only stayed for about a year, but we put on quite a few great shows back then. It was in 1988. I left Stark Raving Mad and returned to NYC. JR Delgado was the owner and force behind the Axiom. I met JR when SRM left NYC on tour and hung out in Houston during the winter before continuing the tour headed west. SRM was originally Pissed Youth! and I met them when they played a CBGB's hardcore matinee. The singer (Sponge) turned me onto a skinhead crash pad in the lower eastside because I was sleeping on the street. I was invited to join the band as the bass player when their guitar abandoned ship in mid-tour. I went to the Sin Club following the CBGB's gig where they were supposed to be playing with MDC and I found them sullen, moping and seething outside. I just hung around and they eventually invited me to the band. They decided to grow up and go from Pissed Youth to Stark Raving Mad. Anyway, JR and I hit it off when I arrived in Houston. He was Sam's (SRM's guitar) buddy. Basically, JR flew to NYC to invite me to join him in his effort to launch the club. I was working at a Restaurant in a trendy novelle cuisine restaurant in NOHO just blocks away from CBGB's. Punk rock Jane from Wisconsin and friend of a band called "Demo Moe" that hung out in the East Village turned me on to the job which was also blocks away from Lee Strasburg Acting Academy. Wild days! Crazy times! Rock on!!! It's a coincidence that I saw this today. I had just sent a text to my sister that lives in Red Rock, AZ that Santa Fe would be a cool place to move to. I'm fucking done with Florida! Lol
sweet!! pretty sure i played the axiom once with the devils
@@buncombeshinola2257 It could have been '89. I might even vaguely recall a Tom in the mix. 😃. Might have been more than once. I really dug the artwork. The guys were a real cool vibe. I was fascinated that the band came from NM. I want to say that it could have been a bill with The Jayhawks. You might have brough two other bands from the area to complete the bill But I'm drawing from a very drug battered brain (all good now). I'm looking for a fun gig to travel to in November. If you have something going on let me know. Tell Jeff I said "howdy". The Hickoids played the old Blue Note in Columbia, MO and as the "host" I led the band to this Putt-Putt Golf pre-show, and we consumed several trays full of Jello-shot sized $0.25 beers. And they were downed in a jiff! The show was fucking raucous! Jeff was really inspired! Hell, I don't remember what was played but I do remember having a blast. 🤘Rock on!
My thoughts about PJ Soles from seeing Rock & Roll High School and Stripes were certainly not PG. I was so glad that Bill Murray got there with a spatula. Thanks for expanding my knowledge and ideas about Corman. Time for a film fest!
i’m a kate rambeau fan myself haha- did you know that DEY YOUNG was in SERPENT & THE RAINBOW?? 🤟🤯 thanks for watching!
@@buncombeshinola2257 No, I did not. I have to say that she aged better than PJ. So, after consideration I'm switching sides on this one. Thanks for correcting the error of my ways. Now I'm off to bolster my Corman Collection.
Hey Tom, as someone who was there for the CD boom, I have to say that The Nice Price series was just a sales gimmick. The real budget series that CBS did at the time was the “Collector’s Choice” series - $9.99 at the time.
right! in fact, $9.99 was surely closer to what CDs (&DVDs!) should have been marketed at across the board this entire time..
I was at this concert with Tiger. It was a badass concert and yes it was rowdy.
that is awesome! did you catch any other shows with him?
@@buncombeshinola2257 A handful, kiss and Queen come to mind.
@@GregCanney awesome! there are great pix of those shows, let's stay in touch!
This is wonderful dude!! Make a biopic about that night!
haha cool idea, the underage drinking outside alone would probably be funnier than HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT. in some of the alternate footage a drunken pit stooge is captured slowly passing out and collapsing out of his chair and onto the floor as onlookers chuckle haha glad you dug it, thanks for watching! 🤟👺
I made Facebook friends with Sex Pistols US tour Manager Noel Monk before he died. He loved Sid very much. He told me before he died that they remained friends after the tour, and he was really sad about Sids death until the day Noel himself died. John didn't play anything. Sid was meant to be up front I believe. This gentleman account is badass! Thank you!!!!!!!
i love NOEL’s book, cool you knew him! thanks for watching, glad you dug it 🤟👺

One of the very greatest records of all time. Agree with you re New Day Rising.
thanks for watching! 🤟👺
Phew! New Day Rising is where Bob Mould took Rolling Stones assessment that "Grant writes the pop songs and Bob writes the hardcore thrashers" personally and started working the pop angle himself. Pop for popularity. He should apologize. Zen Arcade for sure, but anymore I prefer Everything Falls Apart. Gravity being so fucking heavy, man!
Tom Trusnovic great job! I was late to the party on the Minutemen, not discovering them until taking a flier on What Makes a Man Start Fires? In the summer of 89 while staying at my grandparents house after graduation. It was shocking and so good but so damn challenging and my uncle Jim, who introduced me to rock n roll via BOC and Ted Nugent, absolutely fucking hated it.
altho the MINUTEMEN used to cover BOC! haha glad you duggit
👌🏻❤
thanks for watching!
What instrument(s) you play? I never stumbled into a cool scene til I moved to Denver in '01. There was a gnarly band Didjits in central IL but I didn't know back then

@@buncombeshinola2257 Yeah!!
I like Sorry Guero, Pothole, Black Maria, Blue Heron. Also trying to check out more grind, crust and especially anarchist hc 💥🏴☠️
logical nonsense and related projects for sure
Hey from Albuquerque. Originally IL, then CO, then NM. Awesome history. Not familiar with Monkeyshines. What other NM or TX acts you recommend? I like Hi-Watts, Laughing Dog, Spectral Decay, Tenderizor and I recommend Longhair Records! 💥🤘
sweet nothin are my buds, pretty stoogy i mention most of my old school faves in the vid- drags were manic surf garage, big damn crazy weight were heavy grunge, elephant were hooky hard rock, and logical nonsense were anarcho thrash metal punk. cracks in the sidewalk were great too.. pssst monkeyshines are more are coming for shows in nm in august, follow us on the social media links for updates! thanks for watching! 🤟👺
@@buncombeshinola2257 oh I'm also friends with Sweet Nothin! My bad😝 yeah they rock! Will follow Monkeyshines
Excellant stuff pal. I had a ticket to see them in '94 in Dublin but of course that gig got canceled. This is realy intresting.
glad you dug it, thanks for watching! i only caught them one more time, touring on IN UTERO. something definitely hung in the air, as he enlisted a punk legend on second guitar, insisted on his friends’ opening bands, & refused to kowtow to the massive audience- playing a lengthy acoustic sequence. a lifelong inspiration for sure, no matter how bewildered I surely might seem throughout this clip haha
This is great Tom! Thanks for the shout outs! Dang, 35yrs...aye! 🖤🎵🖤🎶

glad you dug it! that’s not actually my gig poster, just an image i grabbed offline. (i do have one or two somewhere.) i’m not really an autograph guy.. and i have no evidence to deny or confirm the authenticity of that item. 😉haha thanks for watching! 🤟👺
@@buncombeshinola2257 Okay, I see 🙂 Yeah, Kurt's autograph on the poster looks not quite right.
Wow dude this is so cool
glad you dug it, thanks for watching! 🤟👺
wow cool stuff, how was your interaction with the band?
minimal but cool enough. they seemed more burnt out and high rather than standoffish.
Awesome Tom! Yes we're getting older but in my mind I'm still 19, until I catch a reflection and then, F#@K!
haha underagedrinkertilyoudie 🤟👺
@@buncombeshinola2257 Haha, If Drinking Don’t Kill Me….Kill Me!
Sweet! Yeah, LOL, I remember when Nirvana started playing many of us took a smoke break outside due to the volume -
haha yup I feel like we would re-enter for like little one and two minute intervals until we couldn’t take it anymore and then went back out by the pool tables
Dang haha they were That loud?!
awesome tom! great seeing the gig posters too. amazing vid!
glad you duggit!! cut & paste xeroxed fliers seems like centuries ago.. haha thanks for watching 🤟👺
so cool tom!
glad you duggit!
I always look forward to your videos Tom! Great stuff, I was 12 way back in '78! I remember Joe Anthony on KMAC/KISS here in San Antonio, would talk up Rush, Trapeze and so many more great bands of the time.
thanks so much for watching! yeah, it definitely seems like the man knew how to make things happen.
AMAZING! Thank you!!!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching. Don’t miss pt 1!
Tiger and I used to hang out with a couple other friends who are no longer with us. We went to some concerts together in the '70s. Namely Rush at Randy's Rodeo, Kiss and Queen in San Antonio to name a few. I would definitely be interested in seeing photos from these concerts in particular. Who knows, maybe he took a picture of me as a teenager. Don't have any. Anyway, we lost touch since I moved away. His dad was a colonel in the Air Force and he had an older brother that served in Vietnam. His older brother was one crazy guy. I think Vietnam helped in that.
we will be working on scanning images from these shows later this year! keep in touch. was RUSH at RANDY'S as crazy as TIGER made it sound?
@@buncombeshinola2257 it was crazy. We actually feared for our lives.
"Baby" should be repeated sixty times before it becomes an issue!!!🤣🤘
The "easily the album's low point" jab at Traci's vocal stylings almost made me do a spit take. 😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
i mean, i love her! but.. 😳
Cool spin, Tom! Never would I have made these connections! Dig it. Since the Platters were mentioned I must admit "Smoke Gets in My Eyes" was ironically an early love of a tune that I would spin repeatedly when I first started spinning as a pre-teen. Forgot about "El Topo". Want to watch that again, now!
glad you duggit! i own a cache of PLATTERS 45s myself. ELTOPO is better known, but don’t miss HOLY MOUNTAIN, his followup has 100x crazier visuals and concepts- perhaps JODO’s best flick. thanks again for watching!
The lead in (adjectives) is a hoot, but muchos nachos for highlighting HOLY MOUNTAIN. Incredibly bizarre holds my attention better for any length of time!!! 🙃 @@buncombeshinola2257
Fuckin crazy good shit!
glad you duggit! you seem like a potential ZACHARIAH fan honestly haha
Very interesting. I even learned something new.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Road To Ruin had the best production of any Ramones album. Joey's vocal is at its peak and Johnny's guitar on songs like "Bad Brain" are at their peak as well. Great songs. Blazing tempos. Great lyrics. The riffs, especially, never got better than this.
LOVE this song, but I had limited listens to it until later years - - except when I'd spot Attack of the Killer B's at a party or in a friend's collection - - as my version of Leave Home was blessed with Carbona (can't wait for your take on that one!). The middle 8 (really 16, right?) is fantastic and I love the way Joey lands on the word SPY on the welcoming bed of the background vocals. I love the variation of the melody accent on the line "my special one" in the first verse (?) and the last verse (but also feel the tension of it). Lastly, I guess, is how I always felt that the key change, instead of adding tension as is sometimes the case by stretching the singers vocal range, like in maybe a Who song or something similar, gives Babysitter more resolve and the raised key actually sounds like a more natural key for the song for Joey. At least to my ears. Another great job Tom
dang! thanks for watching, glad you duggit. it is indeed a track packed to bursting with delectable details, a true charmer which rewards repeat attention. also, i don’t want to to overplay my hand- i am probable to revise the piece considerably- but you can google CARBONA NOT GLUE + HUMMING A SICKENING TUNE and find my ancient text version of that song’s review, plus all the other songs i filed before i petered out around ROCKET TO RUSSIA, & decide to start a youtube alternative. old links are probably dead though. haha thanks again for the comments, i appreciate your thoughts. cheers
Sheer brilliance. I love this series. I think I like Road more than you do though Ha
if the tunes were as awesome as the mix, it’d probably be their best record. glad you duggit!
Fucking awesome Tom! Big Boys fan for sure, all the way! Thanks and see you soon!
thanks for watching bebbeh!!
Quality material as always good sir. I find no fault with this tune, though agree it falls short of their best material. Cool to see all the 8 tracks and badges and shit in the video. I’ve been trying to collect more of their old pins, buttons & badges lately. Deep thoughts and good points in yer discussion. One of us!!!
thanks dude!! 🤟👺
btw the signed MARKY badge is mine 🤟👺
These videos are excellent! Very well written, and an excellent overview of these classics. Please keep them up!
thanks for watching! glad you enjoyed it!
The ending is brilliant. Just an FYI: could it be debated that Bad Brains were the ones to get the scene-fracture started!?! Seemed they were to the punk scene, what Trump is to the GOP (lol). Their misogyny was on display when we (SRM) were in NYC, and they were spending time (maybe recording). Harley was hanging with them if memory serves me correctly.
there was also a tinge of misogyny which i failed to recount in the BIG BOYS incident.. patriarchal expectation would certainly fall in line easily with other strictly fundamentalist scripture adherence.
It's not to late to be saved bi Jesus, brethren 😕🪴👍🙏
bijeezus is a considerable improvement over heterojeezus
You do know that the Beatles performed and wrote circa 333 songs not just 213 ?! Check out the other tracks on the Anthologies , film recordings , Live At The BBC & Decca recordings as well as Goodbye on the Deluxe Abbey Road. Also they wrote many for others too ! 🤡
definitely, the compilers of this ranking were sticking with the bare basics official releases- frankly i’ve seen clips like this which thoughtlessly omitted PAST MASTERS 🙄 so at least they didn’t stumble there. i am an interested completist, but once you’re on the slippery slope you can easily find yourself pondering every oldie they play a half verse of during GET BACK haha & it can get overwhelming quickly. one time i found a list of every BEATLES ‘fan’ ‘tribute’ or ‘anti’ novelty tune, & attempted to listen to each one if they were on youtube.. yeah that took several days. haha thanks for watching!
I heard Jeff say "careful, this aint Austin" keep this and other shows coming and let's make San Antonio the new weird! Thank you Tom, Dano, Patrice and of course Jeff!
God damn holy shit!! I was not familiar with this one and it’s EVERYTHING. This is why The Ramones are the greatest band ever. You cannot write a better pop ballad. It’s impossible. Unless you’re a Ramone.
yeah it is genuinely awesome in startling amounts & unexpected ways
in many ways this is my favourite Ramones song.. catchy tune, powerful production, and great lyrics... it has everything, and is relentlessly upbeat and life affirming, which is what really sets the Ramones apart from other punk bands.. beneath all the cynicism and anger and staring down the ugly things in the world, the Ramones are at the end of the day optimists... it took me years to get a copy, and my first copy was on a very warped copy of Do You Wanna Dance
agreed on all points! KILLER B’S was the first i heard it thanks for watching
Love Christopher Lee, his movies and music. Just a cool dude. Worthy of note is Paul's girlfriend Jane Asher featured in Masque of the Red Death and supposedly McCartney visited the set and met Vincent Price.. I think maybe Paul attended the premier too but not certain as the Beatles were very busy in 64.
I cant imagine trying to play a gig while people are throwing stuff at you. They band took it well
i'm sure they were used to a certain amount of abuse by this point. haha
