I remember doodling around with this solo and the one from Eye Of The Storm with my first band during high school, I'm pretty sure BFMV was a gateway for a ton of people in their prepubescent ventures into heavier music
There is a difference between playing the solo, playing it correctly with feel and style, and writing a solo like that.
That "bwaahh" on the guitar you're hearing is him doing a very sharp bend on the strings where it hits a harmonic. Alternately if a guitar has a tremolo like a Floyd Rose you can pull up for high pitches or push down for a "dive bomb"
Uh you can't get that sound by just bending the guitar string and it's called a pinch harmonic. It's done by quickly touching the string you strum with your pick thumb without keeping your thumb on the string so it rings out. He's doing that while also bending it and it has that cool effect.
Alex Hefner you really need to react to this album from start to finish. Its beyond words. Also the fever album is phenomenal. Such an underrated band.

BFMV continues to be one of my favorite bands to this day. The rawness and simplicity truly makes their songs so fucking headbangable (I say simplicity in regards to chord progression first and foremost, these riffs are not simple). Super happy you liked this song, it’s a banger

So cool seeing his perspective on music change now that he's starting to play guitar. I remember when I started playing and I was analyzing every note in an A7X solo only to think about how mind blowingly impossible it sounds to play. Awesome to see Alex's brain working the same way.
After playing guitar for a long time and listening to much more complex music, the solos these guys make don't seem that impressive, it is still cool but I can't shake the feeling that there are so much cooler solos out there.
I'm a Vet! I saw the BEST taste of chaos tour, it had headlining Atreyu! Avenged Sevenfold with their original drummer Jimmy and a Bullet for My Valentine! It was one of the best concerts I'd ever been to and I stood there protecting my wife who was 6 months pregnant at the time! My baby was raised on rock music before he was even born!

Little fact about this song, it was played back to back on BBC radio 1 on the day of its release, the first time in BBC radio history that any song has done that.

the technique you were wondering about is a pick slide (turn your pick sideways and slide it down the strings, it works best on the heavier strings) followed by a slide with your finger down the strings
