This song was originally written by the band's drummer, (Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, RIP), after he took a hiatus from society and lived in a cabin in the woods for a few months alone. He was given time to just brainstorm as much as he wanted and about whatever he wanted. This was the brain child of that experience.
The meaning to the song? There were five men that decided to lock themselves in a cabin for several weeks to write an album.... What more do you need to know? XD The rev was crazy

If you can make it through the bad times you can go the distance wether people view it as grewsome or grotesque that you are still together you don't care because you truly love them and would go to hell and back for them. This is basically avenged sevenfold version of bohemian rhapsody. Such a work of art. We got to thank Jimmy “the Rev” Sullivan for coming up with this masterpiece of a song. Jimmy “the rev” Sullivan was a mad man and a lyrical genius!! RIP to the GOAT on the drums. M Shadow vocal and range is beautiful and perfect sounded. The fact this is had little guitar and more of a theater feel is awesome. This song is perfect and I love it

The orchestra, the lyrics by Jimmy, the maniacal laughter by Jimmy and Matt, the piano at the beginning (basically what Jimmy came up with and used for the song's theme). It's just one of the best modern musical piece. It has everything and most of it came from Jimmy's mind.

From what I remember from the making of the album documentary, it was just a song they started with a silly idea that they were having fun with that just grew. Like they were just having fun with the lyrics and shouting weird shit in the vocal booth and smashing bottles and stuff.
Just a bunch of dudes having fun in the studio that made it into a epic arrangement. Avenged Sevenfold are super talented to pull something like this off
I'm 23yo girl and I first heard this at 12 years old. It turned me on to rock and metal and even though I grew out of this kind of "softer" kind of metal I still love it and still know the lyrics after all these years.
I'm a heavier music enjoy myself, but this is a far superior peice of art than almost any really heavy music, alot more talent required to make a piece like this.
