You all know that Benny Greb is one of my all-time favourite drummers in the world. So when Aaron Edgar said he wanted to do a lesson teaching some "bennified" grooves I was very very excited. Check out the lesson and make sure to watch some Benny Greb videos as well.

FAR CRY 3?
Oh my god, I scrolled down before seeing his face and saw your comment, this is so awesome.
Mezurashii5 'Do you know the definition of... PATAFLAFLA?'
Hotshot2414 It's "have I ever told you the definition of...", but still.
AAAAA BENNY GREB IN DRUMEO PLEAAAASEEEEE
Working on it! That's all I'll say for now... :)
Drumeo YOU TEASE.
Drumeo that would be soooooooooo great !!!
AWWWWW YEAAAAAH
he´s german, so I think it´s hard to get him to canada or the usa for something like drumeo
Benny Greb is amazing! I agree with the other commenters asking for him to do a video with you guys. I would also like to suggest getting Jojo Mayer on at some point if you haven't already.
Yeah Jojo Mayer that would be so amazing
5:28 Led Zeppelin? lol
tenordrummercj When the levee breaks... but with accents and less of a punch... sounds like shit on those drums anyway
OMG this is Vass from Far Cry 3...
Thanks Aaron. Great job on making this groove accessible to those of us who would have trouble figuring it out on our own. Guys like you, who share their skills are a credit to the drumming community.
Jared Falk needs to be recognize as the great drummer he is , not just the drumeo guy.
I really can't understand how people find reading this music and breaking down these easy (awesome) but relatively easy beats by breaking it down into every god damn note like this dude does easier than just listening to it a number of times playing it by ear. I can see where this kind of learning would come into play I guess, but its just unnatural and like common core is to math- making things harder than they are just to get the same result in the end.
Rikky Hernandez I understand how it may not help everyone. But we try to break things down in a way that everyone CAN understand. That way you don't leave anyone behind. When teaching online, you're teaching to such a large group of students that all learn differently. So it's important to try and convey your message in a way that can cast the widest net. Thanks for the feedback!
I can feel that! Thanks for the explanation it makes much more sense now.
Rikky Hernandez Most drummers and instrumentalists are basically just hobbyists. Most things don't come naturally to them. They can't transcribe something from a recording or video. I used to feel the same way as you until I realised this. Let them learn in their own way. No one every became great through this approach but if it makes people happy and they get something out of it then it's good in my book.
AdamOuissellat "No one ever became great through this approach"? Benny Greb came great through this approach, he's said in his DVD's and in interviews that he learnt drumming one note at a time. Just because your learning style is different from someone else doesn't make it wrong. Enjoy what music people make not how it was made.
jingitbaby This type of learning is missing the forest for the trees. Like the guy above said, it's an unnatural approach. I'll explain the problem with this approach. If it takes you this long to learn a groove then it is clearly too advanced for you and you will be better off taking things which are better suited to your level. As Bill Evans says, a simple honest statement is better than an advanced approximation. The guy teaching this can play the grooves fairly well, but anyone learning them like this can't play them well.
I'm not saying it's not fun to learn stuff like this, even if it's passed your level, but I guarantee Benny didn't use this approach to get good (even if he did do it at one point in his early years).
Benny Greb & Eric Moore in Drumeo would be great ! :)
Aaron is great guy, and a very good instructor...anda Benny...Benny is the one
VVVVAAAAAAAASSSSS! YOU'RE ALIVE! Sorry i couldn't help it!
The third one was great, but I think it is way more swingier the way Benny plays it...
Promo blah blah blah shit. 0:52 - the video starts. But actually I really liked the video. Cool.
I'm noting how much of all three of these beats, with a few flourishes added, come right out of Dowd's Funky Primer book. We may have found a book that shaped Benny's technique.
🤩
The fact that every comment isn't about Steve Smith and how amazing that performance was is a sad sign of the times. The amount of skill and passion required to execute that performance and make it look effortless and fun is going to escape many people. That was amazing!
I always enjoy how musical Benny's stuff sounds. They're beats people can remember by the way they sound. Thanks for doing a Greb lesson and exposing the masses to this amazing percussionist!
Ew, buzz. Your fingers should always be in contact with the stick.
Why do all drummers roll up there pants? Does it make you ankles more aerodynamic? Or is it to plug their shoes? lol
There is some accent missing on every third stack note in the second sheet...
Uhm.. why doesn't Benny show his Benniest grooves?
goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great stuff here but... the last beat is very different actually since it's supposed to swing :-/, the pattern is correct though ! U're very neat and precise and u explain super well, I guess I'm just picky about swingy grooves haha ! Sorry can't help it ^^
“Bennyyy!”
-timmy, South Park
mike johnston on drumeo??
Please can you details what cymbals are used here ?
Can anyone tell me wich models are those cymbals?
What can I do to gain that independence for the 2nd groove?
I’m sorry, your high Tom isn’t parallel to the floor. This isn’t Benny grab enough
Highly recommend Benny's Language of Drumming DVD. Along with Jojo's two DVD's on hand and foot technique I think they will help anyone improve.
hahahaha yes drumeo you teeeeaaaaasseee!
isn't it suppoust to swang a little ? i mean 1 and 3 one
Thanks for the excellent lesson! I can't wait to go home and work on these 3 grooves. I've been wanting to incorporate my Sabian Holy China / O-Zone Crash stack into some beats and not use it solely for a quick, trashy (and LOUD) accent.
Btw, this guy (the teacher) has his own channel, too. Just look up Aaron edgar
i love when it happens: i watched this video when it came out more than a year ago... but i forgot all about it. i realized i've been improvising the first groove without remembering where i got it, even thinking "wow, i think i created this thing"... now that i'm back here i went THERE YOU ARE, GROOVE. hahahaha awesome video as always!
what stack do you play there?
About the first groove: very nice! If only play the first three times, a 3/4, it's very cool too. Thanks
if he would talk about hand technique on the second groove, instead of talking about every single note, this Video would actually be usefull
Hey Aaron thanks for this massively useful and fun video :). Can you or anyone else tell me what snare you’re using in the video? It’s really gorgeous!
Can i do those" buzzs " on the snare and ride if i have a beginner electronic drumm? its good but its not a roland or a padtech . Thanks for the answer
The third one is real tasty :)
MAN, YED TO. YOU MAKE IT SOOOOU ARE THE BEST INSTRUCTOR I'VE EVER LISTE MUCH EASER TO APPLY!!
The last one was my favorite !!!
I vote for Benny in Drumeo too !!!

A bit over explained but thanks for doing this drumeo!
Benny Greb is rediculous! Thanks for the breakdown Vaas.
those hi hats sound tremendous
Great instructor !
Great sounding drum kit and cymbals! Nice lesson.
Aaron Edgar is a really great instructor and drummer ! Really like his vids
Hey Aaron Edgar what are you using as a stack it sounds great!

I want that man's haircut !
Id this dude a caricature?
Great lesson and cool instructor - many thanks for sharing!
Have I ever told you the definition of groove?
Nice! Thanks
Drumeo which Yamaha drumset is that ? :)

You fucking rock, bro
AAHH, *****! So glad to see you on Drumeo!

Nick Swarson?
Ohhh that snare is so sweet! What snare is that?
wow nice Groves!
Good seeing you here Sonor bro!! Killer lesson!
If I could just get a loop of the intro
What cymbal is that for beat #2?
At 4:46.
What cymbals are being used in this video? They sound amazing!
I think they are paiste formula 602 modern essentials
Paiste Twenty Masters. Real tasty stuff.
Loving the lesson Arron, thanks man!
OMG MY FAVORITE DRUMMER FINALLY
That kit and snare are on point!
Bravo
anyone who knows wich series his cymbals are???
+Adriaan Bauwens VGT hey mate the top left crash is a 18" masters, the hi hats are 15" modern essentials, the ride is a Twenty Master custom and the right crash cymbal is a 20" modern essentials crash. The stack is a Swisse Alpha (discontinued) with a what looks like a masters hi hat top on top. The closest cymbal to the discontinued Alpha Swiss is the PsTx Swiss medium crash. Hope this helps
thanks a million man!
These cymbals just sound so sharp and clean, i love 'em
thanks man
+Adriaan Bauwens VGT Yeah man I have Paiste cymbals and other cymbal companies such Meinl, Zildjian and Sabian just don't compare to there quality and attention to detail. No worries man, have a good one
That first groove is dooooooope
What's in that stack?
I think its a sabian paragon china over a b8 o-zone (i dont know the sizes)
(Y)
I love the intro
Get Benny greb on thissssss
lol this guy looks ridiculous.
He didnt understand when Benny Greb plays a groove is not the same :D :D
