Excellent PSA video, ran a test on me server RAM today and thankfully no errors found (thanks Patriot Viper RAM). thanks Mike and Kath
Great to hear! i hate faulty RAM it is hard to pinpoint sometimes
Nicely explained, I love how you zoom into the relevant details through the video, makes it very easy to follow.
glad the video was helpful for you
Didn't know these tools existed 2bh. Thanks for sharing Mike and Kath👍
No problem 👍
Great video thanks Mike.
You are very welcome
thank u this helped
Glad it helped
I have a medium-high built, but been having random crashes during games, first though it was gpu(3080ti) but after several test, now considering ram, great video, will give it a go and see how it goes
good luck hope you find the problem
Well after running the diagnostic, got a hardware malfunction detected contact manufacturer
The thing that you need to remove each stick of RAM and re-do the test is kinda lame for me. We should have something similar to Crystaldisk but for RAM
Who knew, who knew. I've seen the app maybe once a while ago and never took any notice of it! Cheers Guvnor.
something to keep in mind for when the need arises
This actually doesn't stress the IMC, so it's a waste of time, because you might have stable timings for the RAM kit, but the second you add stress on IMC it just borks, I'd recommend TM5+Extreme profile or OCCT for actual RAM testing
thanks for the info
Hi Mike good video I didn't know windows had this function but bit usless if the Pc wown't boot at all like I had in March when I built my new pc it would fail to post in the end I had one faulty module
Was lucky it was in 30 days return to exchange Amazon new corsair pro
yes this is more for intermittent errors or crashes
I was gaming today and my whole pc froze and there was a buzzing coming through the headphones then it blue screened ddr3 no problems detected.
on my xps 9510 test is not even starting, presing F1 gives my only empty blue screen??? i have 32GB RAM
any idea why this is not starting?
try one stick at a time
Hi I have four ram stick and don't know which one got faulty. How would I go about testing it ? Should I run memory diagnostic on each ram stick individually??
Yes that is the best thing to do
What if my pc cant boot up and the DRAM light is on i want to check if the problem is caused by my ram or the motherboard or the slots?
if it stops on DRAM it is more likely the RAM sticks i think
Memtest86 its all you need, this wmd wont find errors that memtest will find if you have faulty ram.
Had one ram come up as faulty and then swapped down too two pairs in each slot to find out which it was and all came back fine then put four back in and it came back fine? Does this mean false positive or it just missed it? Additionally have my discord, steam, browser tabs all crashing and restarting randomly. I'd assume this is from faulty ram?
sounds like a chip is on the borderline to me
Ive been having issues with my pc crashing , closing programs randomly , i got 2 sticks of 16gb ddr5 ram first test i ran came back an issue saying it was faulty , then i tried them both 1 at a time with no issues coming back and then i ran it both together again with this time came back with no issues any idea what could be wrong here?
might be the XMP or EXPO settings aren't quite right, check them in the BIOS against what is written on the RAM and if they don't match, manually and the timings
@@mikesunboxing you got a video on this for someone that isnt the best on this kinda stuff

Great video Mike, Windows Memory Diagnostic tool is good but sometimes it wont find all errors if you've got a high overclock, i found a good tool called OCCT, can test all hardware with this.
Thanks for the info!
Going to give this a try. Ive got a high end setup and suddenly I have random crashes and screen stutter during gameplay on fortnite. I'll report back. Thanks.
let us know how it goes
@@mikesunboxing No errors were found in the ram, But I did see a error called DistriutedCOM. I'm going to google it to see what that is. lol. It said it timed out. I was hoping it was ram issue . I've been having this problem for about a month and have tried lots of different things. I wonder if my Samsung 990pro is acting up.
@@mikesunboxing I Googled it and it says nothing to worry about. I did see some errors about bluetooth but I'm not using anything bluetooth.
I used this diagnostic and it immediately said there are problems and then continued for an hour to come to the same conclusion. Now I have to go through this precess four times testing each ram one at a time. You would think microsoft would come up with a way to test each ram stick. You also might noot have a faulty ram stick but a faultly ram slot.
Maybe windows doesnt have low-level access to that kind of stuff but rather it's the motherboard and or the CPU memory controller that handles which data goes to which stick? Just a maybe, idk
It was a fualty ram stick that was only 6 months old.@@AndyU96
Does it test both sticks, and just doesn’t tell you which one is faulty?
test one at a time to see which one is faulty
This would have done me no good since my pc would turn on, but the monitor remained off, and the light indicator would go beyond post, or something like that. one of my RAM modules, apparently, failed tests 11 times acoording to geek squad. So I just bought 2 new RAM modules and now I'm able to play games and comment on youtube videos.heheh.
glad to hear it
I am currently doing the test right now, and its been setting on 1 of 2: 21% complete
For like a half an hour now, is this normal
sounds like it crashed, you might have found your bad stick
I tested my memory and it says problems were found. Ordered some new ram hoping that fixes my issue. Thanks for the informative video 👍
hope it all works out in the end
How was it? Did it fix your problem?
@@soteroaleta661 It was right. My ram was faulty and i got new sticks and they work great. Haven’t blue screened since.
Do you have a video for ram slot fixing?
no sorry, that is a bit specialised and your need the rignt tools
@@mikesunboxing oo okay, i just recently bought 2 8 gb ddr3 rams and i was disappointed that my 2nd slot isn't reading the 2nd ram.
By any chance u also have a fix problem of motherboard before? I have this old motherboard about 5 years now? If I remember correctly, For some reason one day when i press the turn on button the fans just spins for 5 sec then it turns off. Been trying to find those problems in youtube but for some reason there's no video for it.
What if my pc dont show that blue screen?? Like it doesnt show anything.. my fans are blowing faster but nothing shows...
My setup is
MOTHERBOARD - Msi mpg b650 edge wifi
CPU - Ryzen 7900x3d
RAM - Gskill Trident z neo 32 gb 5600 MHz cl28
GPU- msi RTX 3080 suprimX
what are the diagnostic leds telling you is the fault?
How can you do this on windows 10?
should be the same
Memtest 86 bee knees thans to Mike in a previouis vid, my spelling sucks
cheers Benny
This tool actually does the same thing as Memtest86, overall not good enough for systems made after 2014
Damn Imhotep got old
lol
At least show it with a faulty stick if you're making a tutorial. I have 4 sticks and 1 of them is bad, the daignostics says nothing about which stick is bad and what excatly is the defect.
thanks for the advice, fortuneatly i don't have a bad stick here at present
Try getting into the setup when it boots, On win 7 it has every category listed with the stats and on the MEMORY category it tells you what is in each slot and if your memory is bad it will say 'EMPTY SLOT' while the good memory will say the type of memory and Amount (gb). In my case I had 2 good sticks and 2 bad sticks. Then I took the empty slot sticks and put them in the slots that recognized the other sticks and they suddenly were good. The problem was not with the memory, IT WAS THE SLOTS. So that's when I went to Ebay and found the same model for 92.00. After tossing the old one I had a few martini's and .......
@@str8but2007martinis... I felt that.
It's going to be a while until I use windows 11, I'll wait until all the bugs are eliminated.
So you’re ever going to use Windows 11 haha 😂 😆 😛
could be a long wait
I went one better, I bought a new HP WIN 11 and nearly had a breakdown trying to accomplish anything with it. I shut it off and put it back in the box and now its in the attic. I had my Gateway laptop's AC port replaced 110.00 works like new (win 7) MY Dell e-521 got all new memory $39.90 (win 7) My Lenovo laptop got a new battery $65.00 (win 7) and lastly I bought a refurbish from Ebay $130.00 looks and runs like new and guess what its WINDOWS 7. For Less than half of what I paid for the HP that is sitting in the attic. I gave 4 pc's a new life and not once has any of them told me "I didn't have permission to do something". Shame on Microsoft for pushing garbage on us after telling us they won't support previous operating system versions. They are pirates now and can't be trusted. "SAY NO TO WINDOWS 11"
How to is Worthy of Support comment & a Like 🙂
Thank William - have a great Thursday :-)
@@mikesunboxing Don't know if the day was great. after 9.5 hours alone in the hotdog stand. 35.4C. i'm done for today. but hope you & co had one 😀
@@WilliamAndrewPhilipBodie Yes, thanks - sorry to hear yours wasn't too good
@@mikesunboxing It's great today not that warm 😀
I love how no one bothers to show what it looks like when a stick is bad. But, typical creator. All is always good and nothing to show. Move along. Nothing to see here.
if i had a bad stick i would show it, but i can only show the process and the outcome is the outcome. But i understand where you are coming from
@@mikesunboxing I'm sure you've got someone in your tech circle that has one somewhere... I thank you for your response, though!
If u get a bad stick hold onto it and make a video showing symptoms! I have 4 sticks of ddr5 @6000 pc won't boot if i have a specific stick installed. @mikesunboxing
@@SkyMuffinz Will do
What, you haven't hired a paid tech support staff in your home? Just because someone knows how to do something doesn't mean they can teach you how to do something. I'm close to moving off Windows.
Is this a reliable test? Compared to memtest86.?
yes it with do the same thing
