  • MemTest86 is the original, free, stand alone memory testing software for x86 and ARM computers, testing the RAM in your computer for faults using a series of comprehensive algorithms and test patterns.
    In this video, we introduce common symptoms of memory errors, how to test with Memtest86, how to analyse for results and offer potential fixes.
    With the release of V10, MemTest86 (Pro Edition) now supports decoding and identification of the DDR5/DIMM module on which a particular error occurred. For the most up to date list of supported platforms, visit: www.memtest86.com/tech_DIMM_D...

    I have a doubt: I ran MemTest86-PRO and it detected 2 errors on the same DIMM1 (sheet at 6:02 says it's a bad module) with the same CPU's core0 (sheet says it's a bad CPU) during the 13th test (row hammer). BUT... If I DISABLE the BIOS' Multicore Enhancement ("overclock" by default is on AUTO in ProArt Z790 BIOS) then no more errors! (Sheet says bad voltage.) Please note that my CPU is under the Thermalright frame, so there would be some pins bending risk, but honestly if it would be the case, then I should not even pass MemTest with Enhancement disabled, right? So me question: is it better to keep the Enhancement disabled (at least during memTest) OR my DIMM1 is actually damaged? Thanks for your kind help.

      @passmark  Рік тому +3

      Hi Adriano, thank for your comment. Unfortunately we cannot say for sure without the report/results. But after doing a quick search online, 'Multicore Enhancement' sounds like some soft of CPU overclock feature - so it seems likely that your CPU isn't very stable with it on. So best to keep it off - and it is likely your RAM is ok if there is no errors with Multicore Enhancement off. We hope this helps. If you would like further support, please send your logs through to help@passmark.com

    Bought new Hp Omen Core i5 12th Gen. Already had 2 modules of DDR5 4800 mhz of 8 GB. Installed samsung. I took both out. And installed 32 GB kingston single stick. Sometimes it is showing BSOD. Somtimes working fire for full day. Ran HP diagnostic tests of memory and windows ram test. No error show. Laptop is just 4 days old. I reinstalled in windows laptop worked fine for a day again same problem coming and going ? is it ram problem or something else ? or should i use my laptop with stock samsung ram for some time and then check ?

    there is a NOTE : RAM may be vulnerable to high frequency row hammer bit flips . do i need to change my RAM??

    • @passmark
      @passmark  9 місяців тому +1

      Hello! It depends on what you are using the system for. During typical home PC usage (eg. web browsing, word processing, etc.), it is less likely that the memory usage pattern will fall into the extreme case that make it vulnerable to disturbance errors. We have detailed information on Row Hammer Errors here: www.memtest86.com/troubleshooting.htm#hammer

    Guys memtest86 or 86+ is better for DDR5 rams. 1st I crashed with memory management than everyday I crashed Video scheduler internal error and I think its not about drivers its about ram sticks. When I use them stock they are fine but when I use with xmp 6400 mhz pc crashed and restart itself. I need to test Rams if I have any errors should I use warranty?

    • @passmark
      @passmark  8 місяців тому +1

      Many memory module manufacturers offer a lifetime warranty. So yes, if you are sure the sticks are bad, use the warranty option. If they only gave problems when running at a Mhz speed above what the CPU/RAM/Motherboard supports however, then you can't really blame the RAM.

      @@passmark I dont wanna blame the sticks amd says 6k mhz sweet spot but latest agesa bios lots of people run over 6000+ my kits not stable. If they selling 6k or 6400mhz they have go guarentee it I think. Otherwise they should not have to write 6400mhz etc. on box.

      AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs have some simple rules:
      6000mhz: Generally possible on all of the CPUs. Unless you are super unlucky.
      6200MHz: Possible if you are lucky and got a CPU with great silicon.
      6400MHz: Possible if you are extremely lucky. Very rare.
      It's easy to start a computer at 6400MHz. It is impossible to get it stable on most CPUs. Don't listen to all the noobs who just use those values blindly without checking stability properly.

    My problem is my windows won't boot with the fan running. After I shake the ram or take it out and place it again it boot normally without any problems. Any solution or causes before I ran memtest?

    • @passmark

      Hello! This is a tricky one. You could try disabling xmp (if its enabled) in BIOS and see if that helps. We would also recommend running MemTest86 and checking for errors.

    ok, i will probalby not get an anwser here fast enough but heres my case: went from an intel 10400f to an intel an intel 11700kf. same board, same bios update. turned off the pc, just swapped the cpus, turned the machine on. after that, bsods happend directly and alot. sometimes within 1 min after windows boot, sometimes after 15 minutes. bsod error msg said something about thread sheduler and other things, most of the time, it was kernel related but almost always a different error.. so i did a new win 11 installation the same day. maybe the old installation cant handle a hardware change well?, everything the went fine for 3 days, now iam back to bsod. did this mem test, errors come up on
    test 8: addr: XXXXX expected: XXXXX actual: XXXXX CPU14,
    test 8: addr: XXXXX expected: XXXXX actual: XXXXX CPU12
    test 8: addr: XXXXX expected: XXXXX actual: XXXXX CPU0
    test 8: addr: XXXXX expected: XXXXX actual: XXXXX CPU10
    an so on
    every error, has a cpu core number in it. does that mean, the new cpu is bad?

      Hello! Sorry to hear you are having a hard time with your PC. If the bios is up to date, the CPU might be bad.

      @@passmark a little status update. if i remove one of the 4 ram sticks, no matter which one, all the test run through fine. every ram stick on its own, runs through fine. any combination of 2 or 3 sticks, runs fine, but as soon as there are 4 slotted in, no matter where i slot them, the errors accur in memtest. i dont know what to make of this and iam afraid to send hardware to rma, when i cant proof that it has a problem

      @@passmark i tried intels cpu test tool with 4 sticks and the tool passed every test. i used occt for 30 minutes on the cpu with no crash. iam starting to doubt, that its the cpu, since the error only occurs, with 4 sticks installed and works, if i remove one stick, no matter which one. but on the other hand, that behavior doesnt speak for a single bad module if since, it doesnt matter what module gets taken out
