This has never been out of the top 3 of my 'All-time favourite films since first seeing it as a wee-boy in the 60's - the cast, the scenery, the script, the soundtrack etc - all the very best!
Laura Petrie mentioned this movie when her husband, Rob, and his writing partners, Buddy and Sally, were trying to break into Allan Brady's office. So I googled this out of curiosity.
I enjoyed the movie, I thought Peter Ustinov and Robert Morley were fantastic throughout. The movie gives a beautiful visual perspective of Istanbul in the 1960s. I don't like to be such a shallow hal, but Melina Mercouri did look and sounded quite masculine (despite the pretty costime changes) and was no spring chicken when playing this part. The heist scene was very entertaining and well thought out but it relegated the museum security to a key stone cops level. Using Melina's recorded laugh to distract the main security guard was not funny, just ridiculous. Nevertheless, you can see how Topkapi was a blueprint for all the modern heist movies where a team of specialists are thrown together to show how a team can be greater than the sum of the parts. There was an opportunity for an alternative ending when they loosened the rope holding the "human fly" and he fumbled and almost drop both daggers. In his confusion, if he had replaced the original dagger by mistake, the crew could have avoided the embarassing prison scene at the end.
That's quite a long trailer. Have caught a glimpse of Topkapi, but only part of the movie. Classic heist film . Very good what I saw. Hence, I have to see it again form the start.
'misunderatand'?!?! What's that supposed to mean? A trailer was and always has been - to stir interest in an (upcoming) film - WITHOUT giving much away. Some trailers have very little about the film - in an attempt to get people too wonder. If you think a trailer is supposed to be nothing more than a 2+ minute 'mini-movie', then you're a poorly educated member of the 'unwashed masses.
😍Love this movie...🎡🎢🎪🪘🎶🏟️🐦🕌🗡️ and all the acters they were the best! True legends each one unique in their own wayes how I wished they would have made the second part movie getting the Romanov 💚Emeralds/Smaragds/☺️🤩✨✨💎💚💎💚 I always get emotional when I see them all together walking in so called snowy cold Russia hitting for the Romanov🤩Emeralds💚💚 may they all RIP🥺😇🙏🏻🌈✨💙🤍💙🕊️🙏🏻
If you live in the U.S., it's coming on the TCM channel later this afternoon. If you miss tonight's showing, they may air it again on TCM at some point.

What episode, on what format, please. Very sad that MTM has passed over.
Nice to see where you get your education from.
Out of Curiosity and you googled it out
a very strange and confusing trailer from this distance in time. It was a clever, and intriguing few minutes back in the day.
Yes.

It is nothing like 1960 Istanbul
Nah, she was a beautiful woman, and your list of accomplishments?
Looks as if they made a number of changes from the novel, which is pretty good.

Came here for Joe dassin
First time I’ve ever seen this described as a Robert Morley movie. It’s a great movie though.
About a year ago this film was on UA-cam in its entirety… Unfortunately we can only see it in small snatches of time now
If you're in the UK, it's on BBC 2 this afternoon, 2 p.m.👍
Good Jules Dassin movie but not equal to "Never on sunday."
That’s the movie that had Suzanne Pleshette
Saw this film when it was first released and loved it… The whole film was on UA-cam about three years ago don’t know why it’s been taken down
Elizabeth Bower Copyright. Plain and simple.
Copyright probably.
I LIKED IT
Melina forever !!!
Watching BBC 4 ⏭️
