Topkapi movie, produced and directed by Jules Dassin. With Melina Mercouri, Peter Ustinov, Maximilian Schell. The music score was by Manos Hadjidakis, the cinematography by Henri Alekan and the costume design by Theoni V. Aldredge.

In Finnish, "Kavala" = devious. Also, "Ankara" = strict. And, "Peter Ustinov" = genius.

Saw this film when it was first released and loved it… About three years ago the whole film was on UA-cam… Don’t know why it was taken down but I wish someone would upload it again

So where does Peter Ustinov's character cross over into Turkey? I recall there was a lot of water visible at the border station, but none of the Greek/Turkish border crossings seem near enough to the ocean. Is the Maritsa River particularly wide?

The bridge that he crosses just prior to the border control is the Meriç Bridge in Edirne.
