I also have XT-2 and I find it great that the RAW file stores metadata on the type of curve/film simulation when shot and imports it with that particular curve. The challenge I would like C1 to take on is to actually display that curve name instead of just 'Auto'. It could be something like (Shot - Classic Chrome). Anyway, well done on your teaching and communication side especially when English is not your first language. One day I will visit Poland (my great grandfather was born in Warsaw) - winter there looks great. Have a great 2021!
Hi Stuart, thanks a lot! Happy that you enjoyed the video. That's true, I find the lack of clear indication regarding to the film simulation mode used during the shoot a bit confusing too. It's good though that the initial choice doesn't lock out the other options. So you have real Polish roots, I need to record videos in Polish than hahaha! :D We had quite a bit of snow, I live in Lower Silesia (West South) very near to the Czech Republic and mountains. Thank you Richard, I first edit the image an after I get the result I hit record and repeat the process. Sometimes getting the right result comes nicely, at times it is a struggle. It took me a while to reach this point, but if I could do this you can too!
Just got Capture today, with a strong background in Photoshop in a work environment. . Naturally it will take time to remember how to access things, like your Color balance. I feel the image didn't have enough color in it to be a good subject. Or enough shadows. Perhaps a nighttime shot of people lit by neon lights and street lighting would have been more intriguing , and shown more flexibility, especially working the color balance in highlights, shadows and mid tones. But I'm already keeping this video to go back to. I'll be interested to see if I can import some looks that I've seen in the Lightroom Cinematic folder. Thanks for this. Of course, at this point, I would still want to open the adjusted raw file in P.S., and hope to see it in it's original size.

Again a good instruction. Many thanks. Color is of course a matter of personal taste. I do like to use "classic chrome" as a starting point for winter photographs of woodland. The greens are less pronounced and can be targetted (highlighted) if necesarry with the COLOR EDITOR. For a backdrop (if the the color of the backdrop is more or less uniform of color) i do like to create a mask of the backdrop based on the main color of the backdrop with the COLOR EDITOR and then change the luminance saturation and hue if wanted. This resulting in a color contrast between the front and the back of the photograph. To create more depth. Or after creating a mask I also do erase some part of the mask if necesarry when targetting a specific part of the image. But i al depends also on the mood. I'am still finding out the most efficient way of local adjustments on color contrast.

Kasia, thank you for presenting your workflow - very helpful. Could you please advise if changing the Colour Balance on the Master wheel and then also on the Highlights wheel increases/doubles the colour effect applied to the highlights (as opposed to using the Master wheel only)?
You are welcome Pawel! Yes, it will make the color stronger-the master wheel applies color cast to the whole image, regardless luminosity range. Adding color on the highlights wheel will enhance the effect if you use the same color. Best is to clone variant of the image, open 2 copies one beside another, zoom in and compare the results - with adjustments on master and on the second copy master+highlights.
Do you use a dedicated monitor or just your Mac/laptop? If you intend to print the images on paper would you do anything differently? Thank you once agin for informative videos
Hi Kasia, thanks for your informative video! Great images! I have been working with C1 for years and every camera system I worked with so far (Nikon, Canon) all images reveal in C1 as set in camera, except for Fuji files! 😳 With my Fuji (XE4) I work with film simulation recipes (e.g. FujiXweekly, always JPG fine +RAW. Unfortunately all JPGs are set to 5000K and 0 hue, when imported into C1, even though my setting in camera is 7200 K! With my RAWs it even gets weirder: the Kelvin value is all over the place and so is the hue value. It's so far off it's unbelievable! This issue has been like that since version 20/21/22 and still is in 23! I have absolutely no clue why this is, since all my Canon files (R5) are exactly as set in camera. It looks like C1 is trying to interpret my film simulation recipe instead of taking the actual values. In C1 I have set import to auto and mode is set to "as shot" Do you have an idea what's happening here? Thanks 🙏🏻

A video I would love to see is how you can make the skin of a female model, have a real chromey metallic look in a black & white image. I often see this chromey skin look but having tried numerous times I can't get that look.
Hi Mike, thank you! Hmm, I suspect the chromey, super smooth and shiny skin has to be prepared by a make up artist. It is question of specific make up techniques to get that glow. Please post a link to a specific example.

Yes, this framework works well for me - I cover it in depth in my free masterclass (courses.daclasses.com/15-min-edit-masterclass). Certain images would ask for more luminosity adjustments, while some might be just fine with a few touches. No hard rules here, but the overall structure helps work in a logical way and avoid any chaotic guessing: Luminosity > color > final touches like sharpening etc. When it comes to cropping - in Capture One it is a non-destructive operation (in opposition to Photoshop for example), so can be applied either at the beginning or in the end. When I have a portrait and my idea is to crop quite tightly - then I'll do that right at the beginning. With landscapes the scene can change a lot during color grading and elements that were not interesting initially can start playing stronger role in the whole composition. So I tend to crop landscapes in the end, and create different variants for experiments with cropping tool.

So, C1 has this OVERLAY feature, but honestly, I find it to be very weird and hard to implement since the effect cannot be applied to one image at a time. Once activated, it affects every image in the library. It is unlike any other ' texture overlay' feature in other programs. Am I missing something? If you have any experience with this functionality, would you kindly explain the best implementation of this feature? Cheers.
Hi Hal, I apologise - your comment went to the "held for review" folder in YT, which I never check out. I've just realised now it exists. I'm assuming you relate to the Overlay feature that allows to add a watermark. So you can design it in Photoshop or just use a simple text as a watermark. You can also display a sort of draft, composition aid if you were working for example on a magazine cover. This could be helpful to crop the image to fit the cover layout. Hope this helps. Hi Kasia! Does every Fujifilm raw file import with the film simulation it was shot with? Or is there some sort of default "generic" simulation applied until you select something different?
If you shoot with sepia film simulation, then the imported raw will be displayed in sepia. But you are free to change it to any other film simulation- color, bw, whatever you like.
