I’m listening in 2024…. Love this song my cousin Julie turned me on to this song when we were kids. When we were kids I feel like we lived on sugar mountain. We were little hippies and loved life, love, rock and roll. Times have changed so much! My cousin has passed away now from cancer and she will be missed. I’m so happy I have the Neil Young memories I shared with her. When I listen she’s still here with me…THANK YOU NEIL YOUNG for allowing me to experience that ❤
I had to change one word or two in the lyrics in the mid 90's. My ex wife had put my eldest boy into foster care. As soon as I found out I drove from Hampshire to Worcestershire. Went in the door of the carers saying "son, grab your things, I've come to take you home. I did.
@@davidobrien7235 Carpet Crawlers - endless 1970s memories - there was a club (The Grove) in north Dublin with a DJ called Cecil Nolan and that man played that song every night year after year after year. RIP Cecil
Wow, the symbolism is unreal. When he sings of ... "feeling part of the scenery, I walked right out of the machinery," his reason for leaving Genesis -- as soon as he says, "grab your things, I've come to take you home," he gets off the bike AND CHANGES DIRECTION -- just as he did when he left Genesis. The guy is a genius.

Peter Gabriel taking the age-old question "Can you walk and chew gum at the same time" to a whole new level of "Can you sing and ride a bike at the same time". One of my favorite songs of all time presented in a whole new level of sophistication... just beautiful.
The bike is a Moulton, made in Bradford on Avon, a tiny, beautiful old town, not far from where Peter Gabriel has his recording studio in Box, Wiltshire. For that matter, not so far away from Solsbury Hill.
Wonderful performance. This was one of my elder brother's favourite songs, so we played the studio version in the church as his coffin left the building. So now the lyrics have a personal resonance to his siblings, and bring tears to our eyes when we hear it again. Quentin N Scott: 1959 - 2009 RIP.

Alf Torp PG’s band is made up of the same musicians - I saw him in 2014 and only the backing singer was different. He is friends with these people and has known them for many years - and it shows.
When I clicked on the video, I didn't expect to see Peter Gabriel almost running over some guys riding a bike on a spinning disk, but I must say, I'm not disappointed.
Love how his voice doesn't even waiver for a moment at 2:25 when he nearly cleans a guitarist off the track in front of him 😁 This is easily one of the best performances of one of my all time favourite songs.
I grew up with the song, and although many relate iIt to Peter’s move away from Genesis, the song sure seems to play out the biblical events of the period leading up to, through, and after the crucification of Jesus from the perspective of Jesus. Being betrayed the entire time by those he trusted the most, until God calls him home. I can tie every lyrical line to a biblical event, and I’m by no means highly religious. Does anybody else see it? If Peter had a hidden religious meaning to this song, what a genius to be able to package a biblical story and sell it as mainstream without the masses knowing they were listening to Christian music.
I take no issue with that fine assessment, Richard! Isn’t it wonderful to have that woven into your own history. I genuinely feel sad for kids today, including my own, with nothing of this stature emerging in parallel with their lives. At least they can share in this...
This makes me smile so much, classic track and live his tone to me is still spot on, awesome is all I can say...thank you Peter Gabriel and everyone in the band to backing singers and crew...Awesome

discovered this music a few days ago, I left home (in Brazil) to study in Hungary exactly 3 months now and I am missing home and my family so much, so yesterday when listening to this again it was like a truck hitting me remembering my dear ones far away from me, and I wished hard that someone would took me and tell me to grab my stuff and go back to my family, I would never have imagined that being this far from home would be that hard.... now I'm ok I think, but this song kind of hit me in the face with what I consider important for me now, since I have aways felt that "I'm never where I wanna be". But in the general picture it stills cheer me up with the promise that someday I'll return to my home :)

When my wife and I realised last year we would be staying in a village right by THE Solsbury Hill, we couldn't wait to walk up it - and, yes we sang the song when we got to the top with joy and triumph.....the climb up to it was quite a hike for middle-aged knees!
My father said this to me before this song came out. Son grab your things I've come to take you home. I played this for him when it came out an again before he passed. This song makes me happy and sad

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing, stretching every nerve
Had to listen, had no choice
I did not believe the information
I just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom, boom, boom
"Son", he said, "grab your things, I've come to take you home"
To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Though my life was in a rut
'Til I thought of what I'll say
Which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom, boom, boom
"Hey", he said, "grab your things, I've come to take you home"
(Hey, back home)
When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me
Today I don't need a replacement
I'll show them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going boom, boom, boom
"Hey", I said, "you can keep my things, they've come to take me home"

When I first saw this performance (online here) I was like...YES! That was so cool! I wish I could have been in the audience. I love this song. Been a fan of Peter Gabriel for many, many years.
Best live performance of Solsbury Hill ever
thanks for the lyrics; can tell it is an old soul's song. i wanna go home too.
I've been to Solsbury Hill. OH Wow...... This still hits deep. Father and son - "Grab your things I've come to take you home", for me at least - so emotional.
When my wife and I realised last year we would be staying in a village right by THE Solsbury Hill, we couldn't wait to walk up it - and, yes we sang the song when we got to the top with joy and triumph.....the climb up to it was quite a hike for middle-aged knees!
Thats where the father and daughter was poisoned...
Beautifully said. It touches the heart x
DITTO BRO .
Isn't Solsbury Hill near Stonehenge?
I went to Bath last year...I have newfound respect for Peter..and these lyrics.
You can be having a really bad day and this song will bring you too happiness! It’s my favorite!
Spot on. Smiles.
My father said this to me before this song came out. Son grab your things I've come to take you home. I played this for him when it came out an again before he passed. This song makes me happy and sad
Such a beautiful version of a great song.
Gabriel is the greatest solo artist of all time. I loved him with the original Genesis (Lyric theater, Baltimore), also. You should've seen /heard that show. Thank you, Peter- I will always love you and your music! Would you need a guitarist with 49 years experience? I can travel. ☆
This is my absolute favorite song EVER!!
What a classic song/story. It has meaning of following your hearts desires.
I thought this was just a catchy tune the first time I heard it, and I added it to my playlist... Now I just think it's incredible.
Faire de l'exercice tout en exerçant sa passion... quoi de plus normal? J'aime cette chanson depuis la première fois où je l'ai entendue et cette vidéo représente tellement pour moi le plus important: vivre de sa passion et s'amuser! Thanks so much Peter Gabriel to say to all of us the real meaning of the life!
Gabriel puts on the best performances of all times
I'm 58 years of age , been to hundreds of gigs all different genres of music but this one song is my absolute favourite
I think Peter’s voice has matured beautifully with him.
I’m in happy tears!! This is indescribable 💚
Over the year's, this amazing song plays and lift's my spirits xx Thank you
Geert Smits, nog veel dank namens mijn moeder Annemarie, dank zij jou is ze verslaafd geraakt aan alles van Peter Gabriel
Greatest song. Great performance..... "I'm never where I want to be" then in the end "leave your things...I've come to take you home".....I'm so ready....I'm so done....
It's going to be a sad day for me when this man goes home. I'm sure this is filmed a few years ago and we all are getting old. You've done a great job entertaining us with your beautiful creations and you have shared well in your time here. Many love you Peter, you're my favorite artist.
Solsbury Hill & Moulton Bikes... Great to see Peter Gabriel in touch with his local Bath & West Wiltshire roots!
Peter Gabriel has such a knack for writing timeless classics and Solsbury Hill is no exception.
So innovative, so different but at the same time easy listening to be enjoyed by the many, not just the few.
2019 still listening, still one of my alltime favorites :)
