It is only .2 ounces lighter than the Aluminum/magnesium HM65R which has the band that extends over the head. A great deal of the weight of each of these two headlamps are in the battery which makes further weight reduction all but impossible. Even with the top band that the HM65R has it still falls forward into my eyes because of the weight of the body/battery in the front. I imagine that this one with the single band that goes around the circumference of the head must shift forward even more than the HM65R.
I just returned from two-weeks camping and this was the headlamp I used. I found it comfortable and did not shift or bounce while walking. I did not run with it on though. Thanks for commenting
Nice review. I am a fan of Fenix single cell (both AA and AAA) flashlights for my EDC, I have one headlamp of theirs but I don't find much practical difference between med and high settings; maybe that is a limiting factor of batteries. The HM65R-T seems to have a huge difference between med and high. Lack of a memory may be a good thing for your camp mates. lol My question is: can it also run on regular batteries? Some lights have a removeable rechargeable battery so you can use regular ones as well.
Pretty nice light. Only I could see many people accidentally running both lights at the same time, and running out of battery. Sounds silly, but there are silly people. As for memory, I hate memory in lights. It’s easy to push the button. And the no red light doesn’t bother me, but only because it’s not a camping light…..unless you’re running in stealth mode 🙂
Very good review. I am looking for a trail running light and this helps a great deal. I believe the headband is adjustable by pulling out the round clip and loosening the wires. Can you not replace the battery by unscrewing the knob in front? Easy to carry a spare and double the runtime that way.
Yes, the headband adjusts easily. You can change the battery or carry a small powerbank and USB cord to keep it going if you don't mind the weight. Thanks for commenting
I have a (heavy) Fenix, the headband can be replaced so it can go over beanies / hoods / mountaineering helmets. It's quite strange Fenix don't even consider this a possibility of use...
I need to look more at their other headlamps. I see the larger ones with the top strap but I did not notice if it was removeable. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft Certainly on mine it is removable. One issue I have with it is the top strap is "optional" but not really, it is that bit too heavy for a single band. This one intrigues me as being genuinely a single band. Perhaps an idea for a Christmas present...
That is a really nice light. Thanks for taking the time to show it to us.
Most welcome. Thanks for commenting
VERY well spoken and detailed review. I just ordered the light and am very excited to try it out. Excellent job with your lighting as well.
Thank you for your kind words
Excellent job Mark, lots of detail. Fenix is an excellent company!
Thank you Wade. This is my favourite headlamp to date.
Been looking at headlamps. This is one of the top lights. Very good review Mark!!
I agree. I like the run time of the 18650 batteries but most lights are heavy. This is ideal. Thanks for commenting
Great Head Lamp Review, Like The Features, Thanks Mark ! ATB T God Bless
Glad you enjoyed it Terry

I believe (not tested) it will run on two CR123 batteries, but it won't take AA batteries. Thanks for commenting
I opted for their Model HL18R-T . I like the idea of optional AAA bat. use or the rechargeable.
Smaller and lighter as well. Thanks for commenting
Thx

I can that happening. What can I say😉. I agree that not have a memory and red light are no big deal to me either. Thanks for commenting Jim

Does it bounce when you do your trail run?
As mention in the video, it does not bounce
Will this also work on 123A batteries ?
Yes, the ones I tried in mine worked. Thanks for commenting
@@MarkYoungBushcraft thank you.....most 123A will substitute 18650....but wanted to be sure...
Awww, out of stock!
Yikes....maybe because of me😅. Likely the supply chain thing
