If you ever watch The Raid 2, be aware that the director is a huge fan of the martial artist/actor (Yayan Ruhian) who portrayed Mad Dog so he gives him another role in The Raid 2. They try to disguise him with a beard, but you'll pretty much instantly recognize him, so just know, it is indeed a new character and not Mad Dog in disguise after somehow living.
As a teacher (Guru) of Pencak Silat it was nice to finally see Indonesia take the spotlight in the international martial art film scene. It's quite surreal to see people you've had the privilege to train with onscreen. I remember both Iko Uwais (main character) and Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog) being very kind and humble in person. Back when this movie was originally released it was heavily promoted for Silat practitioners via social media. Almost being a mandatory watch for students of some schools. In my country at least (the Netherlands).

OMG I am so glad you reacted to this amazing film. The sequel, The Raid: 2 is everything you want from a movie in terms of camera shots, action scenes and martial arts. It is freaking insane. I am yet to find another movie to take itself as seriously as this one does with the background and scenerio it has. Please do the 2nd film too, it is a cut above this film. This film was originally made because the director needed money to film the 2nd film. The film he actually wanted to make was the 2nd film, but did this to make up the funds so he could film what he actually wanted. These two films have raised the bar for me.
I love this movie sooo much, the choreography & stunts are so realistic as if it actually happened in real life. plus Iko Uwais was perfect in this movie for his martial arts.
It is indeed amazing and Iko became my favorite martial artists after this movie but its really far from realistic. At least the crazy spins and flips, not efficient in a real fight tbh.
the martial arts in this movie is called "Pencak Silat" or move flawlessly. and it originates from Indonesia. I once studied Silat in martial art school located in Bandung when I was 11 years old. Silat is mostly used for selfe defense only, and my mentor use to say, "don't ever use it to kill".
This movie gave a big contribution to the actors, Iko (Rama) now in The Expendable 4, Joe Taslim (Jaka) known as Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat, Kang Yayan (Maddog) appears on John Wick 3 with Kang Cecep (you will know him on The Raid 2) and Om Rei (The Mob Boss) planned on Captain America Civil War but then scrapped
32:26 LOL Indonesian Hisoka just unlocked some finishing moves. I'm glad your editor recommended this movie, and I'm so happy that this film became popular internationally. Based on your discussion on the end, I think you would really love New World - 신세계. A Korean movie from 2013. It's not a martial arts movie like this one, but it also falls under the cops and robbers genre. The main character is played by Lee Jung-jae, the lead actor from Squid Game. The story is really good.
Firstly, thank you for reacting to this amazing action movie. Really great movie, and great reaction. The Mad Dog fights are one of the BEST martial arts fight scenes Ive ever seen. What a terrifying character! Secondly, you are HILARIOUS. The way your face changed when the bad guy said he'd give them free rent lmao, and when the dude plunged several floors and broke his back on a ledge, 'oh my back really needs that' lmao This movie came out a little before Dredd 2012, the thing is that Dredd is an EXCELLENT 'contained' action movie, honestly I think you would enjoy it as much as you enjoyed this one. But back in the day, because The Raid came out a little before, Dredd didn't get as much attention and didnt perform as well despite being as good as or arguably better. You would love this movie and I really, REALLY hope you consider reacting to it! Karl Urban is one of the main characters and he is AMAZING as he is in everything he does of course The actor who plays Jaka, the one you call handsome, plays Sub Zero in the 2022 Mortal Kombat movie, story is so so but the movie is overall good if you consider reacting to it. Finally, this The Raid is one of the first of a slew of south east asian action movies that came out back then (back then martial arts was mostly chinese and japanese), so this was really refreshing - the other big one was 'Ong Bak' from Thailand, a Muay Thai movie, with BREATHTAKING fight scenes and stunts, again, really really hope you choose to react to that, and the others I mentioned above. Thanks for reading my essay haha, and thanks for another great reaction!
The language spoken here is Indonesian, and a lot of the local martial arts (silat) are featured. I love it when people discover gems of south-east Asian cinema (few as they may be). I think you would very much enjoy the work of Tony Jaa as well, Imon. Try Ong-Bak and The Protector for a taste of his talents. He's a fantastic muay thai practitioner 👍
Its been like 12 years since this movie was first released and its still looks as awesome as the first time i've watched it. Pencak silat (The martial art style mainly used in this movie) had never looked this good on screen before. Iko Uwais (Rama/MC actor) and Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog) were responsible of making the choreography for the whole movie. They both are legit talented martial artists, You could say the same thing for like the rest of the casts in this film since 80% of them were build of skilled fighters and stuntmants. The plot is simple but its really effective for this kind of movie. Like you already know how the story would go and end up but its still entertaining to see it goes on. Btw if you really loved this movie id suggest you to check The Raid 2 immediatly. Its an awesome sequel to this film that somehow managed to get even better than its prequel. They have every single thing that makes the first film awesome and took it up to a whole new level
I love how it's protocol for comments to suggest Raid 2 next after every Raid reaction, and for good reason too Edit: The handsome man is Joe Taslim, and he's an equally awesome fighter too. In the somehow-even-more-brutal movie The Night Comes For Us, he's the protagonist there against Iko Uwais, the protagonist in this movie.
Yayan Ruhian is a god. he did choreography for this movie, and was still such a pencak silat beast that he mashed it out through multiple great action scenes, including against the brothers in the 2v1. so good.
45:35 FYI: Yayan Ruhian (Mad Dog) is a martial arts teacher originally from Indonesia (Silat). Silat is the deadliest martial art in the world. Yayan Ruhian even trains special forces for the Indonesian army. Thanks for reaction ❤
Your question @26:40... the martial art they used is called "SILAT", practiced by the people of of Indonesia (the origin of this movie), Malaysia & Brunei, particularly the malays.
As an Indonesian The Raid and The Raid 2 definitely put our country on the map. Thanks to the amazing work by Gareth Evans, Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, and the team it has given a breath of fresh air to Indonesian cinema. Showing that we can be on par with the likes of Hong Kong action films and Hollywood blockbusters when it comes to action packed flicks. Will wait with great anticipation for your The Raid 2 Reaction. Thank you so much for reacting to this movie!
The name of the Martial art is called Pencak Silat it's the traditional martial arts of Indonesia. Hey Imon I bet if you took this with muyi tai, and a few other martial arts together you could be a kickass hell I'll watch an action movie with you in it.
Fun Fact: the human body can go far beyond what you think you're capable of. the human body has a built in limiter so we don't self destruct. in dire situations the brain turns off this limiter making the body able to do super human things to insure survival at the expense of bodily injury. i.e. you can lift a car but you just separated several muscles and tendons from bone.
"Pencak Silat" is a martial art from Indonesia, "Pencak silat" is a real martial art to defend when we feel threatened, but when we feel that the opponent is strong, then "Pencak Silat" can turn out to be dangerous for the opponent.
Definitely need to do the sequel The Raid 2: Berandal, and The Night Comes For Us (2018) also has some of the same casts, but with different director that has more slasher horror style.
I havven't seen this channel ever since Winter/Falcon and the very sad breakup... anyways, her hair looks amazing! Also: hell yeah The Raid. She should do DREDD next!

Yeah like people are saying raid 2 is a must as well. The raid 1 is awesome and has some of the best fight scenes ever. The raid 2 has a way higher budget and makes raid 1 look stupid.
Obviously Raid 2 will be next but I also suggest another martial arts movie from the same country called Chocolat free on UA-cam. An Autistic girl that learns fighting by watching a martial arts school next door. She has to save her Mother from gangsters the Mother used to work for.
This movie has some great martial arts and stunt work within it. And if that's all that you are looking for it is worth the watch. But as a whole, I was underwhelmed by this, and even more by it's sequel. I'm in the minority in that.

Well definitely watch The Raid 2 after this. The Raid films are one of the, if not, the best action series ever.

Nah, 1 is great, but part 2 is unnecessary..
this ones great, the sequels tried to have a story and were worse because of it
Exactly! Both of Raid films was absolutely AMAZING. This film is my favorite of the two.
I'll say overall both films are great. First one is better for me. Second just feels really bloated and story didn't feel for me really
Mad dog is the physical embodiment of "I can do this all day"
Mad dog aka Yayan ( the actor's name) is a Pencak Silat master and choreographed the entire film. He's goated for this.
