I watched GM unload three of these Monzas at Road Atlanta in 1976 for the IMSA race. They were body-in-white versions with just the numbers 1-2-3 on their respective doors. Porsche was the brand to beat at that event and the Monzas beat them like dogs and sounded fantastic doing it. I still get chills thinking about it. Thanks for the flashback.

@Stance1988 common misconception. Porsche is only the "brand to beat" because usually there are 10x more of them on the field than every other car.. go look at all Porsche le man's wins and a decent percent come from when other manufacturers weren't even competing. Yes Porsche makes great competitive cars but they aren't "the brand to beat"

@@atomic.universe Some will never have an iota of character even if they live to be 120, while others have loads of it . You either have it or you don't. Character, rareness, desirebility, beauty all determine whether a car will be a future classic. I seriously doubt a Citroen C3 Cactus, for instance will ever be a sought-after classic, while a Bugatti 57 Atlante has been a timeless classic even before rolling out of the assembly line.

No its called pussy footing around. He was going through the corners like a little bitch and braking way to early. His over reving downshifts are hard to watch as well.

Cool. "Almost" sounds like a de-tuned 400-500 horse nascar engine. The 800+ horse nascar engines are beasts. You know when you hear one.

I had a model kit of a monza as a kid, I remember gluing on all the optional IMSA fender flairs and huge tires , years later a friend in high school had a silver and red monza spyder with a 305 V8 we swapped a built 400 small block into it was a pretty cool car, rusted out badly, later on he had an olds firenza and plans to swap a 455 Pontiac into it but it never happened. A 78 camaro took its place. And yes the camaro got the Pontiac motor just for the heck if it LOL!

@Sam Sonite over reving downshifts is a choice. Setting the rev limiter under 9k is a choice. IGNORANCE IS NOT A FUCKING CHOICE.

@@springwoodslasher79 If its designed to sit at 9k for hours round an oval will it really care about a few momentary blips?
and does it even have a limiter? Not sure of the point of one on a race engine?
