I love hearing from people like Travis Carter. Hearing more about his history in the sport is interesting especially from people that aren't like everyone else. Definitely a good interview
One thing about this episode is that if you are a decent history student of the sport, as Travis was telling his story a lot of little pieces came into focus. Throughout this interview I sat in amazement of how such a humble man could have such an impact on the sport. My respect for Travis grew immensely today. I can recall hearing his name over the years during the race broadcast. It is nice to put a face to the name.
Lackluster ??? NO WAY !!! All of these interviews are special in their own way. It's such a great deal that these people from past era's come on a tell their story as part of NASCAR history in one way or another. The phrase "southern gentleman" come to mind here....... him saying "Mr. DeWitt" when referencing who seems to be a friend and mentor in his younger days just shows his respect for others. Another great episode Dale Jr. and crew !!
I am a Nascar fan always will be...But that 70`s early 80`s era is my personal golden years .Thanks for not letting that period of racing be forgotten.
I love hearing the interviews of these old school hard working guys. Travis seemed very very humble hard working guy who doesn’t think anyone owes him anything. Travis seemed a little heart broken or disappointed with what happened at the end of his career and the way NASCAR was headed. Guys like Travis sold their teams and got pennies on the dollar for their cars parts and property not like today with charters. another great interview and treated him with dignity and respect as always.
Thanks for shining some light on a hero and mentor! My favorite years in racing were with Matt and Travis. DEI and Penske were good, but no comparison to the true family atmosphere that Travis cultivated.
Top flight Junior, not flashy but very solid interview and perspective. He bamboozled you so much you didn’t even ask him about “creative engineering”. Keep em coming June Bug, screw the complainers
So many guys have passed I wish we could’ve heard stories from. David Pearson, Junior Johnson, and more. But at least people who were around them are still with us to share some of the story.
Being brought up in a moral home, to find out the entire sport was cheaters. Well they say never meet your heros. Now I'm disgusted by the sport. Dale Sr last laps pull up the middle at Talladega was probably more nitrous and cheating then magic and skill. Leaves my child hood memories tainted. I quit watching after your dad's wrecked. It destroyed me after watching since I was a boy in the 70s, but even then I knew it was fake. I watched so much. I could call the cautions and the wrecks and by who, ahead of time. Your dad said it was the big show. Not racing, not fair competition but soap opera wwf scripted tv. It was the slow week after week realization that my heros were fake liars and cheats.
Travis was a fantastic interview, I can relate for I'm alot like him, let my work do the talking, retired now do exactly what I want to do, don't care what anyone thinks, thanks Dale for all you do.
Dale Jr, what You are doing, Beyond Your time Driving ( Still on Occasion) is Priceless 💯% , You are Reliving the Times of Early Years of 'Nascar' The Driver's/ Crew Member's/ Owners "A History Lesson Every time I and others Fans get to see and Hear from Your Podcasts , You are Doing a Great Honor to All Who Were Past and Present Participants in Stock Car Racing, Thank you So Much, sincerely Jeff Rose in Daytona Beach FL
Great interview with Travis Carter! I enjoy all of the personalities you seek out from the 80’s and 90’s. Hard to believe that those eras are now considered history. I caught the racing fever in 1986.
By far one of the best interviews you have done, I didn't want it to end. Thank you so much for bringing back some great memories of my early years of watching NASCAR. This was about the same time I started my own racing career that lasted 29 seasons racing all the local dirt tracks here in Upstate NY. Again, thanks for bringing back some great memories Dale. Keep up the great work
This is such a great show. Junior I just wanna, thank you for the great people you have coming into your show. The earnhardts keep up the good legacy. Great people and a great family. Thank you junior. I'm one of your fans amongst others. But I'm always rooting for you. No matter what you do or decide to do 16:33 you are a great ambassador for the sport. Your dad did very well.I'm talking about raising children. You just can't help but love the earnhardt family.
Most any guests you have on that are part of racing history are awesome no matter how an under the radar a roll they may have played. They are all important part of racing history. It was great hearing from Travis thank y'all.
Most excellent episode! Critics be damned, that was interesting! I watched the Tim Brewer episode just before this one and I'll be watching Todd Parrot next; love the history and stories especially from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Good interview jr. Travis Carter is quiet type, to work with Tim Brewer who's outspoken I think, the difference between the 2 is daylight and dark but both had one goal in mind ,to win, Travis not to know much about him, but I knowed the name Again good interview Jr looking for the next one
Great interview Dale. I got to meet Travis in Gastonia when I was working at Earl Tindol Ford. Travis was the crew chief that had won the pole in Charlotte and he was awarded a new Ford Ranger Truck. He and I are about the same age and I remember him being so laid back that day and under the radar just like he is on your show. Very nice guy, knowing how thrifty he is he probably still has that Ford Ranger. LOL
Great interview . Travis Carters teams were always fast and he was always a gentelman. Tough sport to be an owner unless you have enough to treat it like a hobby. Glad he is living well and enjoying life, even if he is over nascar.
I'm a Kiwi fan and enjoy listening to your interviews Dale, and hearing the behind the scenes stories. Travis was a great interview, congratulations on a great career sir. I'd also like to say I was never a fan of your father but sl.its good hearing about the things he did for people behind the scenes. Keep up the good work Junior
Lackluster???? Great interview Junior! I loved High Wide And Handsone Harry, Hal Needham, Cale, Junior, just an incredible guy, but when he was done he was done. Huge childhood memories
Thank you JR . . Im a long time fan of nascar from Canada . (watched the first Daytona fight fest with my dad ) Your sister and you are such nice people . Thank you for giving us this history of Nascar that nobody would ever care about . I gotta say this stuff is awesome ! These people are facinating to hear from . . the tricks and troubles are so funny ! . . Thanks again dale . .These Guys are all dying off like the rest of us . . listening to these stories you couldnt wipe the smile off of my face with a 5 lbs sledge . . lol
I was reading a Winston Cup Scene and they covered the groundbreaking for Travis Carters new shop. One of The ceramonial shovel holders was an old friend from Ohio. We renewed friend ship and met up while we féré traveling to NC. For ARCA parts. At an auction for King racing I sat next to Benny Parsons and he was so knowledgeable and kind he knew more than anyone I met.
I grew up in a small village across the lake from Cleveland. This little town had many a racecar in the garages and driveways lining the streets because of a dirt track 3mi outside of town - South Buxton Raceway. I'm so greatful to 1 Old Man Bill McCleod, an elder batchelor that would allow us kids, any kid, to jump into the back of his pickup to cart us to/from the races every Saturday. My friends families had racecars and it was a way of life for those families. Becoming a young fan that sat jext to the kids of those racers out on the track betting quarters on each race are treasured memories of my childhood. I L O V E old fellas and their stories. Listening to their stories is not filtered by their importance or significance in the sport. I just love the stories. I love to think of all of the historical existences that interwined during all the eras as I listen to just 1 of them. Please do not listen to any naysayers Dale. This is pure GOLD and a necessary recording that should be in that Earnhardt Museum of Nascar History that you are surely going to open one day filled with the assemblages of these interviews, and the bits and parts that have come to you. This is YOUR legacy Dale. Keep up the good work.
Hell no, that wasn’t lackluster. Love hearing from guys that have been such a huge part of the sport. Should get Tim Brewer and Jeff Hammond on the show sometime. Lots of stories
Great interview....always admired Travis Carter....and what he done in sport...and Dale Jr for his interest in Nascar History....btw i like to hear a interview in Joe Gazaway...who is still living.....last i heard...to heard Nascar officals...
I was on a part time ARCA team at Daytona in 92. Got to talk to a lot of drivers including Sr. and Davey Allison but me and Yarborough hit it off and he offered me a job on his team. Didn't do it but looking back it was a mistake. Woulda' got my foot in the door and Nascar really took off about then.
This is history folks. Very nice. Thanks Jr. for your insight and history knowledge. Damn glad to see you put "Ma' mas" Elvis Pressley statue on a shelf. Nice.
Wish he had asked Travis about the 3 Grand National East races he drove for Mr. Dewitt in 1973 at Fayetteville's Cumberland International Speedway. Finished 7th in one of them driving a 71 Mercury. Must have been Benny's Cup car.
I thoroughly enjoy interviews like this. I am 74 and miss the old days. One thing I wish you would do is not assume I know some of the people you are talking about and start a quest like "How did you first meet Fred? " What the hell is Fred's last name? Thanks for digging in the history. By the way I was in the infield at the 79 Daytona 500 slopping in the mud but having a good time.
The fact Dale Jr. is collecting all these recollections is so awesome. It is GOLD!
Glad they did a Cale tribute to Darlington last weekend, what a legend he was
It was great, wasn't it?
It was cool to see it back on the track.
I love hearing from people like Travis Carter. Hearing more about his history in the sport is interesting especially from people that aren't like everyone else. Definitely a good interview
Jr… THANK YOU for all these conversations with my childhood heroes. You’re preserving them FOREVER… and *that*, sir, is HEROIC. Thanks again.
That was a FREAKING LEGEND Travis Carter is one of the greatest most humble member of Nascar and forefather of the modern era.
Lackluster ??? NO WAY !!! All of these interviews are special in their own way. It's such a great deal that these people from past era's come on a tell their story as part of NASCAR history in one way or another. Another great episode Dale Jr. and crew !!
I am a Nascar fan always will be...But that 70`s early 80`s era is my personal golden years .Thanks for not letting that period of racing be forgotten.
That wasn't lackluster at all! Really interesting guy and a real character! Thanks for doing these interviews, Dale!
Absolutely NOT "lackluster"
I met him years ago job hunting. Didn't get hired, but had sound advice. A stand up guy.
I love hearing the interviews of these old school hard working guys. Travis seemed very very humble hard working guy who doesn’t think anyone owes him anything. Travis seemed a little heart broken or disappointed with what happened at the end of his career and the way NASCAR was headed. Thanks for shining some light on a hero and mentor! My favorite years in racing were with Matt and Travis. DEI and Penske were good, but no comparison to the true family atmosphere that Travis cultivated.
Loved this type of guest! Great Job Jr.
I was glad to hear from him and Buddy last week
Top flight Junior, not flashy but very solid interview and perspective. He bamboozled you so much you didn’t even ask him about “creative engineering”. Keep em coming June Bug, screw the complainers
These older guys sharing their stories are my favorite!
I thought your interview with Travis Carter was awesome... I watched it from start to finish. Thanks for posting!
So many guys have passed I wish we could’ve heard stories from. David Pearson, Junior Johnson, and more. But at least people who were around them are still with us to share some of the story.
David and Junior had great stories! Miss em both
Ya the good ol' boys made this sport what it was. Sundays ain't the same without them.
Yep Dale missed the story.... Like a kid running in the room and saying who are you ? Then running off...
Being brought up in a moral home, to find out the entire sport was cheaters. Well they say never meet your heros. Now I'm disgusted by the sport. Respect to the legends. NASCAR wouldn't be what it is today without them, regardless of what people's opinions are these days.
Thanks for doing this, Mr. Carter. You're a credit to your profession. And much obliged, Dale.
1:08:00 I'm in absolute shock anyone might think this was lackluster, one of the best djd in months. Great guest and interview.
Great interview guys.Travis Carter is a real stand up guy,it was great to hear him say he really enjoyed Hooters Pro Cup.
Love you doing these interviews with the greats for yesterday and learning how they got their start and how their careers involved. Outstanding show
Travis was a fantastic interview, I can relate for I'm alot like him, let my work do the talking, retired now do exactly what I want to do, don't care what anyone thinks, thanks Dale for all you do.

Great interview with Travis Carter! I enjoy all of the personalities you seek out from the 80’s and 90’s. Hard to believe that those eras are now considered history. I caught the racing fever in 1986.

I thought I saw the ghost of Mike Davis walk past at about the 9min mark! JK!
Loving all these interviews this year. Travis was another great and history packed guest
Definitely enjoyed it. I love to hear from these guys and gals that built the sport. Thank you!
Most any guests you have on that are part of racing history are awesome no matter how an under the radar a roll they may have played. They are all important part of racing history. It was great hearing from Travis thank y'all.

Great interview Dale. Whole bunch of info on a man I knew little about plus inside look at the sport. Thanks.
Good One I thought, definitely a good one for us hardcore history people.
We need Bill Elliott on the download
Great interview . Travis Carters teams were always fast and he was always a gentelman. Tough sport to be an owner unless you have enough to treat it like a hobby. Glad he is living well and enjoying life, even if he is over nascar.
This was fantastic! Please get more of these guys from back in the day. Love the stories. I mean .029 in a roll bar! Omfg!!

Another awesome interview, Jr.
Lackluster???? Great interview Junior! I loved High Wide And Handsone Harry, Hal Needham, Cale, Junior, just an incredible guy, but when he was done he was done. Huge childhood memories
Lack luster....? No way! Travis Carter was one of the silent heros of the "good old days" and did it on his own. ONE of your best interviews Dale.
Thank you JR . . Im a long time fan of nascar from Canada . (watched the first Daytona fight fest with my dad ) Your sister and you are such nice people . Goes to show it takes all sorts of characters to run a team and a car. People like him are just as interesting.. thanks Jr
i enjoyed it.. like hearing these older guys stories.. would’ve liked to hear more..!
Travis just one of those unassuming cool guys. Just good with who he is.
Great to hear that a humble quiet man survived all those years in NASCAR, probably wouldn’t enjoy doing it these days
Great interview thanks Dale
Benny was sponcered by MellGear and I met him in the early 80's in Michigan. He has been missed since he passed.
Buffet Benny and The Gentle Giant Buddy Baker. They would have been great interviews here
Another Living legend Good choice job well done thank you
✌❤🙏💪
Great show!
He’s awesome! No bs . Love your show
Such an underrated guy in the sport. Definitely not enough recognition. Great interview especially for a guy that called himself introverted 😅
I remember Travis ! He is a wonderful person , different in a humble way !
I love these guys. I know the names you bring up when speaking with them. Really enjoyed it

Great interview..too short lol.. what an incredibly sharp mind he has.
Another look back in the history of NASCAR, great job Jr
How much would you like to have your Dad in the Hot Seat and Him having to answer you truthfully --- you do such a great job Dale Jr ❤️
I really enjoyed this interview. Keep it up Dale!
Hell no, that wasn’t lackluster. Love hearing from guys that have been such a huge part of the sport. Should get Tim Brewer and Jeff Hammond on the show sometime. Lots of stories

This man is a god at these interviews. Like my goodness
This is history folks. Very nice. Thanks Jr. for your insight and history knowledge. Damn glad to see you put "Ma' mas" Elvis Pressley statue on a shelf. Nice.
Great show! This was a very good pad cast! Keep up the great work.
I thought this was a really great episode and I enjoyed every minute
Good to hear the Snake mentioned
Yes, I loved that as well!
Wish he had asked Travis about the 3 Grand National East races he drove for Mr. Dewitt in 1973 at Fayetteville's Cumberland International Speedway. Finished 7th in one of them driving a 71 Mercury. Must have been Benny's Cup car.
No complaints from me, I love these stories. Travis Carter is my kind of person. He don't need to be in the limelight.
I thought it was very informative, with lots of insight into what was going on during this time period.
I really enjoyed the interview. I love the history. As for him not watching, NASCAR sucks these days to put it bluntly.
I thoroughly enjoy interviews like this. I am 74 and miss the old days. That was another great interview. I learned alot.
Tim Brewer time! Also, loved the Travis Carter interview. Love hearing from that generation.
