450M years ago, first fish...100M years ago, first life forms on earth...65M years ago, dinosaurs are extinct...Something's fishy here, no pun intended
Lovecraft said multiple times that he does NOT want to make a universe out of his books/ideas (like the marvel universe for example). His open scource approach was because he loved discourse and exchanging ideas.
But these beings are more symbolic or undescribable. In Call of Cthulhu is he describet as some man made statue or a story from some old letter where isn't even sure if that thing is Cthulhu.
Clearly a year late to this, but I have quick question. Was it ever established in the books/lore as to why all these aliens were attracted to earth? Lovecraft wrote most of his Cthulhu works after Hubble discovered that there were effectively infinite galaxies in 1924, so why did all these elder gods choose earth or are they everywhere?
I always figured it had something to do with some sort of cosmic alignment. It could also simply be that once a first few being established themselves there it drew the attention of others. Which in turn drew the attention of even more.
Maybe just maybe Nyarlathotep is responsible for getting so much attention towards Earth after whenever he arrived, given how he's constantly seen and interpreted as some kind of gatekeeper but not one that wants it closed. On the contrary, he wants to open it up for Cthulhu and whoever the fuck else is asleep or waiting nearby (by nearby I mean in outerspace).

Very well researched, clearly and professionally presented, with clear and useful visuals. I used to hire professional educators for fortune 500 companies. You would have been called back for a second interview. My compliments.
I’m so deep down the Game of Thrones mythical rabbit hole right now, I’ve come to the Chutulu mythos to gain insight into the secrets of A Song of Ice and Fire. For all those who don’t know, most of the gods in Westeros are actually eldritch horrors from this mythos. Carcossa is a city in the far east, the church of starry wisdom is a thing here, and Rhollor the lord of light is probably a sleeping old one, trapped just north of Asshai.
Don't go that way with "it all makes sense now", bro. H. P. wanted to show how insignificant we are as beings in face of the greater universe out there, nothing else. (Many say that his imprinted racism took part in the creation of the Mythos, but whatever)
I HAVEN'T EVEN WATCHED THIS YET, but let me just say.... Brilliant idea. I've never even considered what a Cthulhu mythos timeline might look like. So, without even having watched a single second of this video, I am subscribing and liking. Brilliant ideas are self-evident.
The two things I’d like to point out that for a mythos timeline that spans the whole universe and multiple-dimensions and thus possible other universes this is an Earth centric timeline. The mythos does include data on multiple star systems and their planets. The other thing is rather a question: where did you get your source for putting Yig as the progenitor of the Yithian species? I would genuinely very much like to know. I am myself trying to compile a timeline and database of mythos information, and this is key information since the Yithians are an important mythos species. I find no such information either under Yig or the Yithians online. Otherwise thank you for your video, it is a good resource and useful to have in the public domain. The mythos is of course being continually worked upon by contemporary writers, and so perhaps this Yig - Yithian connection is a creation of your own? Which is by no means not uninteresting or without merit. On leaving I would like to high-light perhaps the most important present creative contributor to the mythos, in my humble opinion, and that is Alan Moore. His comic book works “The Courtyard”, “Neonomicon” and “Providence” have both heightened and revolutionised the mythos, with superb art by Jason Burrows. I think in time his contributions will be seen to have added a stroke of genius to the mythos, providing new and rich seams from which to dig into. Anyway thank you for your video.
I always liked to play around d and d with the mythos. One time I created a campaign that entangled them in a world of madness and destruction only to reveal that they were lead by the dreams of cthulhu. As they tried to break away from their shackles of fate they begin searching through ancient cult like areas to fund anything on how to kill him. They find that he lays on the bottom of the ocean but it also reveals that he created everything including the human race to endure and fall prey to chaos and insanity.
Correction, Azathoth does not created the universe thru his dreams, in fact in 100 books made by HPLC himself never mentioned a single thing about universe created by Azathoth while he is asleep. Its a big misconception regarding Azathoth on his deep slumber vs Mana-Yood-Sushai. You can check Mana-Yood-Shushai regarding this.
There is a big misconception here. Azathoth is never said to be dreaming our reality into existence by H.P Lovecraft. He is said to only be dreaming of things he cannot comprehend. This misconception comes from an anime called Demonbane which has its own Azathoth that actually is dreaming the Demonbane universe into existence. It’s not that big of a deal but if you could correct that in the video it would be awesome.
No, he certainly is. You are assuming that a infinite dimensional being that makes all universes, aka, the multiverse, and is capable of recollecting the multiverse into a Omniverse and create infinite more universes, is not capable of collecting its own fragments. Think of each separate instance of Azathoth as it's own set of memories, what happens when Black Holes collide.
@@justinlast1795 no he is not. Tell me where in HP Lovecraft’s books is it said that he dreamt our universe up and that when he wakes up it will suddenly vanish.

I highly recommend the comics by Alan Moore and Jacen Burrows: The Courtyard, Neonomicon and Providence. They revolutionise the mythos, culminating in works of genius.
Nice one. Enjoy. See if you can read The Courtyard as they are all connected. It has an AKLO ur-language sequence that is amazing. Otherwise Providence sheds a new perspective on the whole Mythos, Inc it's purpose and even HPL's life.
Fun fact: Lovecraft was trolling when he was spelling Cthulhu. He never meant for the T to be pronounced. So you actually say: Clhulhu, substituting the T with an L.
It's quite the coincidence, though, that Cthulhu should rightly be pronounced as "Kutulu", and that "KUTU.LU" in Sumerian would translate as: "the Underworld Man".

Robert e Howard's stuff is legendary you should look up Solomon Kane. Bran Muck Morn, worms of the Earth. Epic heroes hero that don't get as much hype.
The Elephants Tower is clearly a wink at Cthulhu’s.
This feels like a combination of H.P Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard timelines. I like it. Not surprised seeing as how both were extremely good friends.

Conan !!! I wasn't aware that he is a part of Cthulhu mythos even if H.P. Lovecraft and R.E. Howard was friends. :)
Lovecraft said multiple times that he does NOT want to make a universe out of his books/ideas (like the marvel universe for example). His open scource approach was because he loved discourse and exchanging ideas.
Man the universe must've been a very busy place with all these aliens making peace and war literally everywhere in a span of a few million years.
Ah yes. this is good 1pm knowledge. thank you youtube
But these beings are more symbolic or undescribable. In Call of Cthulhu is he describet as some man made statue or a story from some old letter where isn't even sure if that thing is Cthulhu.

I find it funny how most of the aliens got really cool titles, but there's one race that's just called *Elder Things*
HPL also called them crinoids (due to their appearance) when he wrote about the shining trapezohedron
I like how the modern era made the most sence even with Atlantis, pretty good research by lovecraft
After reading Atlantis in your comment, I'm now imagining Gawr Gura as an eldritch god...
I'm an idiot, thank you
Clearly a year late to this, but I have quick question.
@@genkureshima9834 I won't lie to you, I don't remember posting this question, but after reading it I was like "oh yeah, I can see why I asked this" so thank you for the reply!

Azathoth:.....now what?
Very well researched, clearly and professionally presented, with clear and useful visuals. I used to hire professional educators for fortune 500 companies. You would have been called back for a second interview. My compliments.
I like how Cthulhu never wakes up from his slumber.
Well done researching all of this lore brother!
I love how they fit the mythos together with science and religion. It all makes sense now...
Don't go that way with "it all makes sense now", bro. H. P. wanted to show how insignificant we are as beings in face of the greater universe out there, nothing else.
(Many say that his imprinted racism took part in the creation of the Mythos, but whatever)
Azathot when he wakes up after the heatdeath of the universe: Man, it's freezing in here.

Score!
*Sees that Fhtaggua's art is taken from tower of saviors*

I like how you used the idv avatar for Yidra
I always liked to play around d and d with the mythos. One time I created a campaign that entangled them in a world of madness and destruction only to reveal that they were lead by the dreams of cthulhu. As they tried to break away from their shackles of fate they begin searching through ancient cult like areas to fund anything on how to kill him. They find that he lays on the bottom of the ocean but it also reveals that he created everything including the human race to endure and fall prey to chaos and insanity.
Is that downloadable?

Imagine if azathoth is just some average joe in whatever universe he went to sleep in and this is just one night between work days.
This has many inaccuracies starting with azathoth
He never “dreamed” the universe into existence, he’s actually always awake
YIDHRA AKA DREAM WITCH FROM HIT HORROR ASSYMETRICAL GAME IDENTITY V????

It's quite the coincidence, though, that Cthulhu should rightly be pronounced as "Kutulu", and that "KUTU.LU" in Sumerian would translate as: "the Underworld Man".
@@williamdaliege1016 quite the coincidence indeed...
I pronounce it: "oo(t)h-ooloo." More of a guttural, back of the throat. Don't hard T, but soft T. It sounds way cooler than Koothooloo.
