- The Spirit of Pocahontas performed at Disneyland's Fantasyland Theater from June 23, 1995 until September 4, 1997. Beauty and the Beast played before Pocahontas and Animazement arrived afterwards.
The Indian tribe calls upon the spirit of Pocahontas while being "Steady as the Beating Drum". The Indian Princess looks "Just Around the Riverbend".
Most have stated Christine LaFond played Pocahontas for this show, Eden Espinosa played her in a later production.
I didn't tape this, my dad did :D
I remember seeing this when I was younger and my family went to disneyland. Ah, good memories. ^.^ thanks for posting this!
Oh wow...I remember this!! I was 12 when I saw this...the memories are just flowing in!!! Thanks for this!!!!
I have to thank you for posting this. For us Poca fans this is a very important historical document.
this brings back good memories. i remember watching both at dland... it'd be nice to see them again
Wow, this whole show is really cool! I especially like the opening sequence. Thanks for posting!
They have captured the spirit of a such wonderful movie
I know a bunch of folks who have VERY fond memories of this show.
Wow Eden is spectacular in this! I wish I could've seen this. I know I was at Disneyland around this time, because I remember the Hunchback festival in the outdoor plaza.
This is so amasing.. It Is So much more amasing to have It alive like this..
I remember this, now I miss it :( My sister was dancing the whole time, trying to do the moves in the video.
@maryjivinjane you're right she is only on the disneyprincesss website and nothing in the princess collection else and she was featured in disney on ice once but the good part is she is featured in the word of color at disneyland and fanstamic at disneyworld
OMFG! I remember seeing this when it was at Disneyland! I was all into it with my cousin XD we were practically freakin out when John Smith was about to die XD
omg i saw this when i was like 5 or 6! i was opsessed with this show! who would have known that shes be one of my heroes now! thats so freakin cool. i think i have a pictue with her somehwere.............
Maria? Interesting how all these pre-WICKED Disney CM went into WICKED. I Stephen Schwartz was also involved with Disney and WICKED.
i saw this when i was a little kid! we saw it the first time i went to disney when i was 2. we have it on a home movie.
I remember this show! I loved when the leaves came out. I wish I had saved some! :)
I think she played "Fairy Godmother" in "Steps in Time". I saw the show a couple times, but it didn't occur to me as a high school freshman to video record it. I don't recall USH having a Batman show... DC Comics usually has their characters at Six Flags or some other Warner Brothers property. Universal has Marvel at their parks. I think it was either Eden or Stephanie J. Block someone mentioned she worked at USH in the Beetlejuice show.
I remember seeing this as a kid! such good memories!! thanks for uploading!!! :)
Eden's voice gives me chills...hands down, she's my Broadway idol. ^_^
I think they should have a store next to the Fantasyland Theater selling DVDs of past show productions. But I don't know for sure if they professionaly recorded shows for the archives...
Happy birthday Pocahontas 🎊🎈🎉🎁🎂🥳
That definitely sounds like Eden singing. There's a video of here in Animazement here on UA-cam, and they both sound REALLY similar.
Wondeful prformance, I wish I'd been there.
Correct except she performed in Brooklyn on Bway as well in '04, she also went to Disneyworld and performed as well! She is amazing!
Totally agree. That was one of the best shows. What a waste of space in that area.
I also heard that Stephanie Block played Belle in Disneyland's Beauty and the Beast. She also played Elphaba in Wicked too. If that's all correct, very cool!
YAY Eden! It's Disney! This amazing beacuse of those two reasons!
I like to think of this as a historical document as well. THANKS :)
The only confirmation I can give you is that I worked as an entertainer for 15 years at Disneyland 4 of them were at Tokyo Disneyland. I knew every person in that show. The girl who played the "wind" was my girlfriend. The girl who played pocohontas was Christine.
thanks, i totally miss this
i loved!! wish i had been there!!! also the little girl in front of u was cute while she was dancing to the whole thing :D
Yeah. It doesn't help that this was recorded in the evening and on VHS :p
The dude who played Werowance the storyteller in this performance is different because he's thin and younger looking and sounding and he speaks the lyric "That's why rivers live so long" like in the movie, whereas the other guy sings said lyric and is kind of big and older looking and sounding.
brillint!!! loved!
I remember this!! :D
I would collect the leaves when they fell x3
THANKS. Do know what "Christine" has been up to before and since this performance?
Christine La Fond performed the role of Pocahontas and Jeff Austin performed the role of John Smith in this particular performance. The voices were live but the orchestra was on a track.
And who performed the role of Werowance/Chief Powhatan?
ah memories
it's kinda funny that i know the words to "steady as the beating drum" and singing along! :D thank goodness I'm a native from South America from my dad's side (from his mother). :D
I actually saw the iceshow of this one, in Oslo, in Norway, in what is called disneyworld on ice =)
I also really liked Festival of Fools. They need to reuse that theater, not just for private events.
and i´ll know what date was this
Pocahontas was my favorite too :) and still is XD
I wish I could've seen this. What shows playing right now?
OMG she sings like a dream o: i have been in disney land paris when i was 10, and see tarzan... i live in denmark... i wish i would have seen this one
@maryjivinjane and Mulan is a princess which I never got so I don't include her.
in which disneyland was this filmed? and dou you know any other cast??
Okay. Thanks for the info! Do you still work for Disney?
if anybody could tell where was this? i love this though. :)
I saw this when I was 10!
@mayjivinjane I totally agree!! Ever since I was probably six years old, around the time the movie came out, I wanted to BE Pocahontas, no joke!! At my school, there was a set of bleachers on the football field (probably only about four rows high) and my best friend and I used to pretend to be Pocahontas and Nakoma and we'd "dive" off the bleachers. And sometimes, if we were really lucky, we could rope one of our guy friends into being John Smith. Ahhh, those were the days!! ;-)
Yes, she's supposed to be actually singing. Yes, this is Disneyland in California.
is she the also the singing voice in the film?
what replaced this?
how so?
I was kinda wondering if this was Eden. So she played Pocahontas from 1995-2001 (Animazement) then I think she performed in DCA and then WICKED?? That's cool :D.
This is Eden Espinosa (pocahontas) who is on Broadway as Elphaba in WICKED!
idk, i really think its her. im not sure what year this is from, she may just sound younger. it sounds like her when shes speaking i almost sure that this is her.
what is the title of the song please??
This show was a classic. The Fantasyland Theater is in a sad state these days. There's nothing going on there. I wish they'd put a show of this quality back in.
I know they had the Snow White musical most recently, but that was lame. The Spirit of Pocahontas was a show done in true Disney style.
I know what you mean. They romanticize the real story and yet with good intentions. I still love Disney though, even if this isn't an accurate portrayal of Pocahontas.
Ah, thanks.
Do you mean Irene Bedard? I don't think so
Can you get this confirmed? I'm not calling you out. I didn't even know who Eden was before posting this up. Other comments claimed it was her.
I worked as an entertainer for 15 years at Disneyland, and I was dating one of the girls in the show.
Is this Eden? I need to know!
That is not Eden. The girl onstage playing is named Christine.
Im almost positive that this is NOT eden...which is sad cause i really love how she sang this song
I think one person who actually knew the cast said this actor was the understudy. There was an older and better actor that played the chief.
steady as the beating drum :)
@charmedluver22 she is a princess
LOL! I was wondering if I was the only one that caught that. Hilarious!
Oh, and yes I saw the show ages ago. Yes, it was good. No, this is NOT Eden. She was Pocahontas but in Animazement (another good show). My fav is Beauty and the Beast and LEAST fav is Snow White, damn shame cuz she's my fav princess.
Long live Indians!
The girl playing Pocohontas is not Eden. Her name is Christine
so I've heard. Twice already. Thanks though.
Pocahontas's relatives are still out there. Disney was making fun out of it and it's not right. Why just leave the history alone?
Neat.
That's not Eden... Pocahontas is played by Christine here.
"but he is so serius"
Technically Mulan isn't a princess because she's not born or marries into royalty :)
huh? MANY other people and companies "rewrite" history. Not just to "make fun of".
I thought in the Powhatan language it meant "little mischief"
pocahontas is sooo yellow...lol
damn lights!
hehe
Happy Birthday Pocahontas 🎁🎉🎈🎊🎂🥳
