This is SO helpful, ive been scouring UA-cam for someone actually organizing with Reminders and this is exactly what I needed to build a framework on. This is great. Im subscribing for more insight to drill down even deeper with Reminders
Thanks for this great video! I tried to create the smart list but for some reason the reminders are not going there even whey they have all the requirements, any possible explanation?
Unfortunately, without seeing how you have everything set up, I don't know. Check that you are not creating smart filters with an extra tag (one you didn't mean to add)
Carl, how can I create multiple reminders for one event? Example: I have a doctor’s appointment on 12/10. I want to be reminded of that appt the day before and also an hour before the appt. I also like to be reminded a week before my daughter’s birthday so I can get and send a card and then also be reminded to call her on her birthday. Can these examples be done easily in just one reminder?? Thanks!
Hi Mark, I wouldn't use Reminders for those. That's what Calendar is used for. However, both in Reminders and Calendar, you can only set one reminder at a time. So, if you want a 24 hour and an hour reminder, you would need to set the new reminder after you receive the first one.
Hello I updated mine to ios 15.1 and I was so excited about being to cutsomise my reminders. However, I cant!!! Im stuck with the same boring colours.. Please help!!
@@Carl_Pullein There were lots of new colours added in the reminders app e.g., when you create a new list and you get to create the list name and personalise the list by setting a colour for the list. Well, I updated my phone yesterday and I'm still stuck with the same 7 colours: red, orange, yellow... Is my phone bugged out from updating it? Sorry if I'm not clear enough im not sure how to explain this
@@msms3737 That was there in iOS14. I no longer have any devices on iOS14, but as far as I remember, there was exactly the same number of colours as iOS15.
@@msms3737 If you can't create a smart list, you most definitely do not have iOS15. I checked the forums and there are no reported issues with the smart lists. The only answer here is you need to double-check you have iOS15.
Great question Edgar! Click the tag in the tags section, and make sure you have no tasks with that tag. Then click the three dots on the top right and select "show completed tasks" and delete all tasks (swipe to the left). Once all tags are removed (active and complete) the tag will be deleted.
@@Carl_Pullein thanks for getting back to me. I tried it and I still cannot delete the tag. There are no lists or reminders attached to the tag I am trying to delete.
Hi Chris, Next week, (and all the lists really) are just holding pens for tasks I plan to do next week. At this stage there is no date attached to the tasks because I will decide when they can be done when I do the weekly planning session on a Saturday morning. The only list that matters (that’s not a smart list) is my This Week folder.
Excellent video!! I do have a question. The tasks that you have recurring that I think you call "Routines", do you have them show up in your Today's Focus, or is Today's Focus just the non-routine tasks. So, for example, if you have a recurring task to workout every day, is that going to show up every day in Today's Focus or no?
Thanks for your videos Carl. Do you know of a way in smart lists to exclude a tag? I use multiple tags for various reasons (who, what, where, etc.) and would like to have a smart list that only shows the tags I select. In other words show #work tag, but do not show #xxx tag. Thanks in advance!
@@Carl_Pullein thanks for the reply Carl. Actually what I meant was, is there a way to exclude one of the tags. So show the #work tag but if it also has the tag #xxx don’t show it at all. My issue is that multiple tags are clouding the results. If I had a way to specifically exclude a tag that would help. Probably not a feature, yet. 😃
@@techychef Hi Tony, sort is there on the Mac app. It actually came out with an update around six months ago. If you go to “View” you will see “Sort by” at the top.
I find the biggest set back of Reminders (but also Notes) being that it is not cross platform. Now I can see why Apple in principle has not a lot of appetite of making this but here's the catch in my opinion: I use Apple products privately but not at work. I prefer using the same productivity tools for work and private life simply because that it takes zero headspace to use products I have come accustomed using. The problem however is that the company I work for does not do Apple products so I am forced to either using different products (which fragments my productivity suite) or go for multi-platform alternatives instead. (I am aware Apple provides an iCloud version of the two but that's not really a sophisticated option as the cloud tools are still rather basic.)
That’s true. Apple believe the future of work will allow is to use whatever apps we want to use. We are not there yet, but I think they may have a point.
I’m in the same situation use Apple products personally but work won’t allow Apple downloads like Safari for instance. Cross platform is important only when I need to do an “Apple thing” and my only access is a windows pc. We all know pc’s out number Apple at public places where you’re allowed or pay to use a computer, like the library or at Staples. However I’m on my iPhone 97% of the time and 97% of the time I can do what I need from my iPhone

Fantastic! Glad you found these helpful.
I personally seldom use iPhone / apple reminders but honestly they seem pretty solid!
It is a solid app these days.
Superb video on Reminders….Congratulations for production of this video..Easy and very simple to understand
Thank you, Narendra. Glad you enjoyed it.
using a calendar as well would be over kill right?
It depends. For me, calendars are for time-specific tasks. Task managers (Reminders) are for tasks that can be done at any time.
Excellent video, as always. Always fresh and new.
Thank you, Abdul. 🙏
