I now use Reminders as my simple project board for planning UA-cam videos. One bonus tip, in the url section of your item you can paste in a link from Apple Notes. This means you can write your script in Apple Notes and put the link in the reminders task. You can then quickly find the note by just using reminders and continue working on your script.
Great video! The only thing I really miss in Reminders are repeating tasks that do not add the repeat interval to the date they were planned but to the date they were fulfilled.
Whats amazing is just how much you really can do with the Apple IOS. It's truly a masterpiece of technology. I find it superior to the Windows/Android systems.
Very useful thank you Gary. Have I missed a tutorial with a section about ‘Convert to Smart list’? I spotted it in the drop down list. I use Reminders every day to tell me what I have to do and at what time. But haven’t gone into the options as you just showed. Thanks again.
A Smart List is like a Smart Folder (Finder) or Smart Album (Photos/Music). It is a "search" for something that you can easily call up. The "Convert to Smart List" just adds a tag to each item in the current list, and then creates a Smart List that is a search for that tag. Try it with an example list to see.
Something I don't like about App Reminders is the fact that you can create templates for lists and not for the reminders themselves. In my opinion, it makes much more sense to create a reminder template.
I do this, but I miss being able to create new reminders at once using a template within an already created list. For example, I always buy the same dietary supplements as soon as they run out, but these items are part of my grocery list. I don't want to have to create a new list and have to delete it every time I need to buy supplements, but I don't know exactly when the supplements will run out to be a recurring reminder, so the best thing would be a template of items that I could add with just one click on my grocery list.@@sundaynightdrunk
Great video! Is there a way to archive a selection, so that it is complete but still accessible if you need to refer to it later? It looks to me that you can only delete a selection and therefore lose the info & completed tasks within it.
@@macmost I'm sorry Gary I meant section, not selection. I understand how completed items are hidden or shown. The question I have is, when you are finished with a SECTION (e.g. your YARD section), how do you archive/delete it (because all tasks have been completed) without losing it contents (which would most likely be hidden because they are complete)?
@@creative_st8 Not sure. I would just leave them as completed. They would be there if you "Show Completed" so you could get them back, I suppose. Or, maybe look into the templates function if you are trying to reuse items a lot. Hard to say as I don't understand your goal here.
@@macmost My goal is to use SECTIONS as a client or as a project so I can see each client or project using column view, and then be able to archive (complete & hide) them once I've finished with the client or completed the project. In your Weekend-To Do example, how do you complete YARD after all tasks within it are complete. Or in your TEAM TO-DO FOR PROJECT ALPHA, I want to remove Jane once she has completed her tasks - but if I delete her, I lose access to her completed tasks because they get deleted also. It seems to me this can't be done. Thanks.
@@creative_st8 What you want may not be possible in exactly that way. Maybe considering your use case you should look into Project Management software of some sort?
Hi, thank you so much its really clear the way you explained, i have a question?? How to see the creation date ?? The idea i want to use reminders for customers who ask me for projects or a job and i tell them after a month or 3 or even 3 weeks, so i want to see the date i created it if that possible in reminders? Also how to add contact info like phone number and name and email of someone from your phone contact list to reminders by share or or so ?? Thanks
There is no creation date saved with Reminders items. Sounds like this isn't the right tool for that job. I would create a Numbers spreadsheet or use an app/site specifically designed for your industry, perhaps. Same for your other question. Sounds like you need something much more robust than Reminders for this.
@@mikeusa9557 Do you mean notifications? No. If you need both notifications and record-keeping you'll either have to use multiple apps or as I mentioned, look for an app designed for what you want to do.
If the Sections and Columns View features only work on Macs running macOS Sonoma, then what if you have two Macs, one running Sonoma and one running an earlier version of macOS? Suppose you create a new reminder using Sections and viewed using Columns on the Mac running Sonoma, how will that note appear on your older Mac that is not running Sonoma?
Gary, is this supported (sections) on macos 12.6.9? My mac doesn’t support latest reminder updates :/ also what other apps you use for project/task management?
This is a new feature and requires macOS 14 (Sonoma). I don't use any project or task management apps, so I can't be of much help suggesting any, sorry.
How can you turn off Section View? I enabled it in my Groceries list but decided I just want a long alphabetical list instead but for the life of me cannot figure out how to undo it back to regular view.

I'm a visual guy, so showing the examples was a great touch. A new reason for me to love using notes. Thank you!
Game changer - just spent this morning setting it up to help me run my two business that I operate from home. Thanks Gary 👍
Excellent. Really appreciate how you gave us so many examples as it brought the features to life.

Very useful tutorial. I’ve never really used Reminders in the past, but I think I’m going to start now. Many thanks!
What have you used before?? Why and on which devices?
This class is a saver. A very useful and informative video tutorial today! Thank you, Gary!👏❤️
Fox that light switch (great tutorial, thank you)!
Super simple and minimalistic on the surface yet super powerful native app! Column view is so goood..
Great video - thank you so much!!
Thanks very much, Gary, for this informative and helpful video! Looks like you have a busy weekend mapped out 🙂
I’m considering using this for my leads and pipelines
Great video, Gary

Only work with MacOS 14 Sonoma and above. Noting for everyone!
It is literally the first 4 words of the description.

You can assign Reminders to be re-occuring if that helps, like every month on the 15th, or etc.

I can’t find sections within my iPhone app. Stumbled upon this video trying to find the fix.
Tap the three-dots button and choose View As Columns.
I don’t have the icon for sections
me neither!!

View, Show List Info, change the type.
It sure reminds me of Trello.
Yes sir, I wish I could post my screen to show it not there, but that option is not there for me, unless I am having a major brain fart. 😢
I screen recorded it. Maybe this is an OS issue: ua-cam.com/users/shortsPLAISyBQqBQ?si=8t78xDSTOeY6jBhu
Which version of iOS are you using? And where is this Reminders list stored (local, iCloud, Gmail, etc)?
Apple, how the hell is the user supposed to discover that you can shift-click the item on the left ... ? OMG
Shift+click to select multiple lists? Shift+click is a common way to select a range of items. It works in the Finder and lots of apps.
@@macmost I got confused with you saying that you have to click the left part of the reminder. Actually you can click anywhere which make sense now.
My mac is from 2015. I don't have that option 🥲
