- Chapter 2 of the Never Give Up doc series brings us to a monumental step forward in my fishing career. The greatest saying in fishing never give up from the champion 🏆🏆🏆🏆
Never Give Up!!!!!!!
Mike my Dad built boats really well! Row boats and small motor boats.
A few years later, my Dad and i built a boat plan from Gardeners book. I was so thrilled to watch it take shape. To me, owning a boat is freedom! As the hull leaves the beach I felt weightless as the water deepened. Sometimes it was euphoric! Thank you for reminding me of my youth.
Mike, you took it to the top. I know a bunch of us live vicariously through you. Never give up bro!
Thank you Eric!!
Dude where can I get a camo toyota hat? I saw your win with it and never forgot about it.
This is a new concept in fishing videos. And I’m here for it! See you next week y’all.
More to come!
The elites in any sport have that special drive which separates them from 99% of the competition. You wanted it more and had a plan to get there!
I like your professionalism Mr. Mike if you ever come to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2022 I would like to go fishing with you. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Gerald!!
I'm loving this series!!
Thank you Catfish!! 💪
Wow. The path was already laid for you. You just had to keep going and never give up. I’m only two episodes in and am excited to see the rest of the story…
Oh boy, hang on! Can’t wait for part three!
Things are about to get interesting
I've been a fan of ike for 10 plus years, great series, i wanna see you hold another elite series or classic trophy. Go ike!🔥🤘💯
Hearing about East Stroudsburg University and the Pocono Mountains is all crazy to me. That’s where I grew up. It’s a small world and as someone who’s 19 and still trying to find a path and having the same dream mike had at that age is inspirational to say the least
Never Give Up!!!!!!
@@mikeiaconellifishing that was a crazy exciting way to start my morning!
I am a bit older than you, but listening to your story is like reliving my childhood. My favorite memories growing up in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan was our family vacations to the Huron River and Strawberry lake. My first larger bass came when I was 5 on the Huron River. My dad was unloading the car and I grabbed my pole and went straight to bank and casted in a nightcrawler. A short time later I got a bite on the Zebco spincast reel I was using and the handle fell off in my hand during the fight. I threw the rod over my shoulder and began running up the bank towards my dad and the car. I passed him in my adrenalized state and he caught me from behind and took the smallmouth bass off the hook. I almost killed the fish holding it up for boaters passing by in the coming hours, but she was released later that afternoon and it broke my heart. I wanted to keep it as a pet, but that was my very first lesson on conservation. I love that your content has brought all this back to me. Thanks Ike! Looking forward to next Tuesday.
I'm 54 years old feel like you are talking about my childhood. Read all those magazines watched all those shows. Used to stare at the Bass Pro catalog and wish I could afford the lures in it. Man watching these two first episodes has been an awesome flashback to the best of times. Thanks for that.
Thank you Greg!!!!
Man…you brought back memories. My first boat was a 10’ Jon boat with a hand controlled MinnKota. Years later we found it in a friends shed and I gave it to my son when he was 14. Still had the same trolling motor. He caught a lot of fish from it!
Heck yeah!!!!!
Real shit here thanks for sharing. It’s hard enough for me competing against the bass let alone all those hammers you have to beat as well. Mad respect!
Thanks Richard!!!
Ya, fishing specifically for bass wasn’t even known where I’m from ( Manhattan Beach CA ). My buddy Dave and I would get together early on Saturday and Sunday mornings and watch Bill Dance, Hank Parker, Gerry McGinnis, and Roland Martin then go surfing. Dave and I were the only 2 people in town or in elementary and high school that fished for bass. I can remember how excited I was when I received my first order from a Bass Pro Shops… a bucket of random plastic worms. I still surf, and I’m still a total bass head!
That's awesome!! The universal unifier!
Great series of videos. I can’t wait for next Tuesday.
Thank you Heinrich
No matter what sport once there's competition, you're hooked

This is definitely a walk down memory lane and me thinking back to those years. I can hardly wait for part 3 to see what other memories are jogged. Thank you for all the knowledge passed to us over the years and tight lines
Thank you Bradley!!!
Yeah my first Jon boat was a 10’ with 2hp mariner. I would wake up extra early before school and launch it in front of my parents house in the Bayou and catch a few bass before catching the bus. 😎
That's the way to do it!!
I finally made it big time! Top Rod picture with IKE.
💪 💪 💪
These need to be longer
LOl don't worry many more coming
Mike love the story man. Brought back lots of great memories especially for someone who grew up in southwest Philly then later moving out the burbs of Delaware County. Spending my summer vacation either in cape may or wildwood or Jim Thorpe or the Poconos. Currently trying to make it bass fishing. Unfortunately that dream can't be a reality for me now due the army constantly moving me all over the place. Never give up and tight lines brother. P.s. caught my first ever bass at FDR, it was a 4lber!
Thank you for your service MIKE!!
@@mikeiaconellifishing thank you for the support and best of luck this season.
Mike, this is awesome. It reminds me of my childhood and bass fishing. Your the best , thank you for the memories
Thank you Ken!!
@@mikeiaconellifishing Oh ya , glad to see your back with BASS. Wasn't the same without you yelling "Never Give Up"
Great stuff boss! Thanks for sharing your path to greatness. I think it’s time to bring back the famous goatee if Becky allows.
That might be a very good idea David!!
My father, his father and his father's father did absolutely zero amount of fishing haha. It was my dad's best friend and his son who's the same age as me that put me on. He was one of those local legends known for fishing. everyone knew about "John Kelly" 7 years of age he took me and his son to a small bridge on a two lane road off of the intercoastal. it's 2:30 in the morning on a new moon. we start float fishing in this current that is just rippin, I've got my rubberband around 12-13ft. every drift they're catching a 3-5lb. speckled trout. I didn't get touched. so he looks over and says "matt move that rubberband up 3 inches!! that's it 3 inches!! Next drift boom 4lb. trout. that's how good/dialed in he was. from that day forward I was hooked
That mullet needs to come back!!!!
It's cool that you mentioned Orlando Wilson. A guy, I work with, just took possession of Orlando's 1991 Ranger 390v. The dang boat is a time capsule! Solid platform and showroom fresh, but we're going to update/upgrade the electronics and trolling motor.
Relic! That is awesome!
Those warehouse jobs suck. Worst job I ever had, although mine was only seasonal. My attitude must have shown through as they refused to rehire me the following year. Great video, great personal history, and I wish my parents had gotten me a Jon boat for graduation (89), knowing my love of fishing.
Haha I feel the pain!! Hey Jon boat or not I'd still be fishing 💪
@@mikeiaconellifishing Word. I spend EVERY March through November on the prowl, wading the creeks and rivers of Central Ohio, fishing for Big Bronze.
Great episode Mike, you really inspire a person to just get out there and do it!
I appreciate that! Thank you Jeff!
That's right going out with what you got love it pure passion just going for it you the man . You inspire all of us to try to make the dreams come true be true to the sport and never give up thank you. Fished as a co angler for ever learned the ropes did really good lot's of fun . Hey Mr.Mikeeeeeeee
My mom had an old car a big Monte Carlo it was huge , when I got my license I tied down a 12 ft flat Jon boat got me a Minn Kota clamp on trolling motor got a 12 volt turned the head around so I did not have to steer the handle backwards to go forward , I was bass fishing every chance I could at 17 years old when I got license
Heck yeah Spooky!

Mike does going Pro?Take the fun out of Bass fishing. Does it become a job? Shawn.
its never a job. It's always a competition, a challenge. Keeps me sharp
Great video... I'm thinking back in the day you had an aluminum boat that you built a platform on... you made it your poor man's bass boat... at least I'm thinking it was you...correct me if I'm wrong...
Not an aluminum. Had the polyurethane Coleman crawdad
@@mikeiaconellifishing copy... well it's great, glad to hear you'll be back on the circuit... positive vibes to your future success...
Good stuff Mike🤓you overrated for enthusiasm and underrated for your fishing skill and knowledge😁just my OPINION😁
I appreciate that!
Just fyi, Hard to hear over the music , maybe because I use headphones but it’s hard to listen to a good story with music playing over it.
