Mike I remember the exact day I became or knew I would become a fisherman. I was just Four years old, walking down the Goldstream River with my parents and my brother who was about 2 1/2. As we walked down the trail, we came upon a clear pool in the river.
I looked at my Dad and asked "Where are the fish?"
My Dad stopped down. And grabbed a rotten log. He rolled it over and grabbed a handful of Sow Bugs and beetles. All of a sudden as Dad threw the bugs in the pool it came alive! Trout were everywhere! That just astounded me and set my life on course to be a fisherman! It has taken me so many places and helped me meet more people. What a life it has been!

I grew up reading some of the same bassmaster magazines as a little kid in the 80’s. By the time I left for college I had 100’s of fishing magazines. I never threw any away.

Agree with so many of these comments, a lot of these elite series anglers have never had a job in their life....their parents paid their way every step of the way. You grinded, and earned every freakin bit of it from start to finish! Love your channel Mike! My wife Brittany Lape (Eppy) used to get Christmas cards from you personally each year! She still has them all along with one of your tournament worn jerseys and hat! Pretty dang cool!

The fact that our family members took good care of there fishing gear hit home with me. My dad has always been like that with his, and now as a adult I understand why.

Thanks, Mike for sharing with us your story. I am 61 now been fishing for over 55 years. From Cane pole to The Smoke baitcaster from Quantum. It's been a great journey. Still looking for my P B Largemouth Bass. I adjust my fishing every year. This year more Texas rigged, Carolina rig's and jig's. Along with Cranks and Top water. I was born to fish. My Father would be very proud I carried on his Legacy of Bass 🎣. Shawn.

I was just around 10 years old while on a camping trip in the California Sierras my mom’s best friend’s boyfriend took me trout fishing, showed me how to tie an advanced clinch not ( which I still use 40 years later ) and taught me how to fish a Panther Martin spinner in moving water… after catching numerous trout over the four days we returned home and I went surfing. In the water all I could think about was fishing and from then on I was hooked!

Remember gallery pizza, or marino’s pizza. I also grew up in Runnemede born in 81. I wish I knew you back then, although you were a little bit older than me, I also remember fishing back by green acres park and I think thats what made me love fishing as well.

My grandfather gave me a silver Plano tackle box in 1979 that had some of the lures from his tackle box which was beyond magical for me. God bless grandfather's! If and when you become one, or a father, pass on the gift, the kids today need fishing more than ever. Help get them out of the house!

im 50 yrs old from slower lower Delaware, I grew up about 2 miles from a small pond that to this day is a great bass pond though its much harder to fish due to access issues because the farmer I had permission from died and its been sold and developed now, but anyway my neighbor was 6 or so years older than me would take me fishing almost everyday during the summer. Now I fish in a small bass club with my best friend`s son as a partner, I love the competition so much. Every small tournament we have feels like im in the Bassmaster Classic. You have been so inspiring knowing that you are from the mid-atlantic area and can fish at the top level.

Mike love the story man. Brought back lots of great memories especially for someone who grew up in southwest Philly then later moving out the burbs of Delaware County. Spending my summer vacation either in cape may or wildwood or Jim Thorpe or the Poconos. Currently trying to make it bass fishing. Unfortunately that dream can't be a reality for me now due the army constantly moving me all over the place. Never give up and tight lines brother. P.s. caught my first ever bass at FDR, it was a 4lber!

Really cool story Mike, I have a very similar story, I can still remember the exact lure I used, it was from my fathers tackle box, like you I didn’t know anything other than an eagle claw leader with a thill slip bobber, I through one of those pre- packaged worms that have 2 single hooks rigged in them already, And the first bass that bit that thing was absolutely breath taking, just the thought of using a lure and getting a fish to bite was unbelievable, 20+ years later it is still my absolute most favorite thing to do, Thank you for sharing!

That is wild. I grew up in Runnemede also,128 Johnson Ave on the Triton side of the pike. I did all of the same things, Jersey Shore Jetty’s, crabbing and fishing Fortescue. Walking the tracks to the other side of the Pike to Hirsch Lake. Brought back a lot of memories. I graduated from Triton in 85. We may have crossed paths. Great story, thanks for bringing it home to good old Runnemede!

Very similar to my first bass and fishing with friends in south FLA. That first bass was amazing!! I was born in Jersey in 1966 moved to south Florida in 1972.
First bass was around 1976 fishing Griffin road canal. I was fishing with a rubber worm and it was amazing! I will never forget it!!! The bass was around 2.5 lbs huge to me.
I was hooked on bass fishing for ever! I now live in West TN and fish Pickwick Yellow creek area most of the time. Love it !!! Good look Mike hope this year is A great one for you!!
    Your videos are very cool!!
