Hahaha, thanks again friend. This is one of my favorite Burt Reynolds movies, and I just love that Custom 500. The full movie used to be on UA-cam and I made it my business to watch it at least 3 times a month. Sadly,it was deleted :( And I haven't had a chance of seeing any of the good chase scenes until you uploaded them friend. BIG Thumbs Up and Thank You,Thank You for this.
Missed a great scene.. The chick and Gator were alone in the car, and she asked him, "'What are you always writing in that little book.? Gator: Story of my life, darlin'. Chick: Am I in it? Gator, as he looks at her foot stroking his leg- "You're workin' on it'.. Classic..
Did anybody else notice how far forward those strut the towers were in the Underhood shot?? Clearly not this car for that shot. With those Towers being so far forward it was either a Mustang or cougar or something like that
Friend of mine from HS his pop had a 73 that he put a 429 Super Cobra Jet into. Upgraded brakes cooling rims/tires and still had cool A/C blowing. It was the ultimate sleeper until you hit WOT. Thing had to make 500 crank easy back then. First time I got laid was in that car which I sneakily ‘rented’ from my friend when the Dad thought he had it. Great memories, all three min of it lol
With a majority of parts that would carry over from one car line to another, it is possible for a 4 speed swap to have been done back in the day. But cost wise on filming certain shots in certain cars was far cheaper than modifying cars to be what they weren't. Most movies back then were filmed, cut & released for under 100k maybe up to 200k.
Outstanding job on the the video, Dude. All the great sounding car scenes and enough of the drama to get an idea of the story. Add a little humor and replace Ned Beatty with Jackie Gleason as Sherriff... Smokey and the Bandit is born... and cash continues to be counted. At some point, you realize how much more entertaining the original, creative real world is compared to the pretentious, remixed virtual world
The birth of Smokey and the bandit and Dukes of Hazard . Bad sheriff , fast car , bootlegging , good ole boys in the south. They probably owe their creation to the success of this movie .
I am not talking about the age old story of moonshiners and fast cars everyone knows that. I am talking about how the filming and production of these movies and their success most probably contributed to the financial backing and later production of movies like Smokey and the bandit and TV shows like the Dukes of Hazard .
Danny Zuehlsdorf that under hood shot they showed is not that car. The strut towers are way too far forward. That was an under hood shot of a Mustang or cougar
Our uncle had an LTD the same color just like it only had a 351, It still would roast the tires pretty good, They also had '73 Grand Torino 2 door almost like the one in the Clint East movie only it was a plain Jane model with the bench seat and the police style hub caps
We had a 1974 LTD with a 400 small block, 2V. We used to beat that car, and it was tough. We burnt one of the valves over revving it in the snow. Still ran great but we had to replace the plug in that cylinder more often. Man I remember those big bumpers. Lots of chrome.
This 71 Ford, and the Charger in Bullitt, are my two favorite sounding cars in chase scenes. Of course Gumball Rally had some great scenes and sounds also. At 2:50 you can hear the secondaries open up ... Nice Video!!! Also great lines -- I'm only afraid of two things, women and the police --- and would you like to try my recipe for "Shaker Pudding"?. Classic!!!
There's a dude who built one of these cars in Jersey, I seen it at the Wildwood car show in South Jersey, not the Snookie Jersey shore in North Jersey!!!
Man. That old LTD sounds good they never had short thro 4 speeds. But Muncie 4 speeds could fit any thing. Alot of muscle cars were fed there deaths on dirt tracks
Back when the stunt men where cowboys & tough as nails, & @ the end of the day licked, there wounds with hard liquor &:a handful of pain pills, & the cars where all the Big Block Muscle Car engines left over from the Good Ole days, Unlike today where a lot of stunts & what few car chase's, there are now day's other than a James Bond movie where the stunts & car chases, are done with Computer generated CGI, effects & None of its real like then .. back then you had to actually possibly break a nail & bleed a little bit for a Damn, Good Scene. ....Only thing that sucked, then was like in this one there was know car diversification, ever car in the movie was the samething, like in this one there all 2 ton ford LTD's....
Actually it was a 429 Police Interceptor/Cobra Jet engine with a single 4bbl. Or should I say at least *one* of them had the 429. Funny how some scenes show Burt shifting that Top Loader 4 speed and then others show him putting an automatic column shifter in park before he gets out of the car.
yeah he's banging gears with a top loader 4 speed then when he pulls up to his daddy's house for the first time from the right rear of the car you see him put the car in park.
I guess it is the price of being old, A fella realizes this young bunch dont know nuthin ,. LOL, FORD DID build and would puta 429 in any and all 2 dr and 4dr galaxie ,mercury marquis and monterey chassis from 1969-1972 .They could be special ordered with a 429, that was before low compression engines. Those Cars Ran HOT and were sometimes hard to start if it was run hot and put up wet You can still find decent Mark 3 Lincolns on CL for around 2500 that the good ol Granpas that knew their shyt kept in the garage and now the shyttie pants gran kids dont want the old car , 429 engine was standard equipment from 69-71, i have a triple black 69 Marquis convertible that came standard with a 429 -4 barrell. It Delivers over 370 HORSES with vacuum style advance..AND without electronic ignition .that car is over 19 ft long . in 1972 the Mark 4 had a 460 hi compression 4 barrell , Elvis had one . My Marquis can get 20 mpg, or less than 8 if you drove it like burt reynolds .casual driving i get about 14 . it passes anyone as if it were inhaling .
Burt is laminating that it is a 429 with dual carbs.......why would they let him say this when the viewer has a head on look, and those are not 429 heads, and that is a single carb (lol, the double-pumper fuel feeder has only one side hooked up (?))..that's Hollywood for ya
DWH BOI exactly we used soup up anything that had a V8 and turn it into n animal 63 Chey Biscayne bell air it was the cheapest down grade of the Impala there was but with that 409 4 speed in there look s we're deciving
Complete White Lightning playlist @ ua-cam.com/play/PLgIpO1mP2xbNnPy7sJJBkErezVngHqAgz.html
Burt Reynolds was da man! Even black guys like myself liked his swag!
Old movies with hot car chase scenes kick ass! I love the old V8s, I drive a Nissan now and its about as exciting as a congress debate
Ahhh, the good old days when cars were exciting and politics was boring.
I love the classic burt Reynolds movies, thanks for uploading
LTDs didn't have shock towers. The under the hood scene was a mustang or a 71 torino.
"And white lightnin's still the biggest thrill of all" (Okie From Muskogee by Merle Haggard).
When cars were cars I grew up in a good era!!!
Ive wanted that car since i was a kid...thanks for the movie
Hahaha, thanks again friend. This is one of my favorite Burt Reynolds movies, and I just love that Custom 500. 429 CJ....nice tork motor...a real badass engine in the 70's.
Jam myrick I know man.
There was some surprisingly decent driving in those early scenes.
Love the B grade star list,
Love the sound of the secondaries opening up on the Rochester Quadrajet.
his Ford is a manual shift on the floor ...... but when he pulls up to his parents house he puts the car in park on the column.
Copndonuts I see that all the time!! Lol
ahh you didn't know they made 4 speeds with park on the column?
at appx. 4.30 he makes a u turn in town and shifts into 3rd gear before he even finishes the turn,, sounds wide open .awesome!!
They tried to resurrect Ned Beatty's persona after Deliverance but he will always be remembered for the 'Love' scene.
Classic..
Thats when SHAKEY PUDDING was good!!!!
Beatty, Reed and Reynolds; all you need for a great 70s movie!
notsure3106 that’s not reed. It’s no hopkins
I had a 74 Brown one back in the day dam I miss that car !!!!!
Did anybody else notice how far forward those strut the towers were in the Underhood shot?? Clearly not this car for that shot. With those Towers being so far forward it was either a Mustang or cougar or something like that
Its a mustang......look at the steering wheel difference
Friend of mine from HS his pop had a 73 that he put a 429 Super Cobra Jet into. Upgraded brakes cooling rims/tires and still had cool A/C blowing. It was the ultimate sleeper until you hit WOT. Thing had to make 500 crank easy back then. First time I got laid was in that car which I sneakily ‘rented’ from my friend when the Dad thought he had it. Great memories, all three min of it lol
2:48, i had a candy blue bike with white hand grips back then just like those. Thanks for these clips!!!!
You can just hear that high compression when he turns the key to turn it over.
I ALWAYS Loved an Asphalt Burnout Sound on a Gravel Road.....LOL....Classic.
That 4bbl sound
Nothing like it.😊

These days being able to drive a standard transmission is a unique skill. One I happen to posses
Outstanding job on the the video, Dude. All the great sounding car scenes and enough of the drama to get an idea of the story. The birth of Smokey and the bandit and Dukes of Hazard . Bad sheriff , fast car , bootlegging , good ole boys in the south. They probably owe their creation to the success of this movie .
cbgreenbay Except this was in Arkansas (the Natural State).
For me in Green Bay that's still the south .
cbgreenbay Green Bay Wisconsin.
Not the "birth". This type of story is quite tired and over simplified.👎💩
I am not talking about the age old story of moonshiners and fast cars everyone knows that. I am talking about how the filming and production of these movies and their success most probably contributed to the financial backing and later production of movies like Smokey and the bandit and TV shows like the Dukes of Hazard .
R.I.P・・・Bert=Reynolds・・・
I'd like to try some of that shakey pudding! Maybe in the backseat of that car
Burt is shifting gears when he's driving!! When he parks the car he slides it into "park" on the column!!
Shortee Checkers
...no continuity there😏
Yeah, the old four on the floor with Park. I sure miss those.
This movie was filmed in and around the the town I grew up in Benton Arkansas
All motor - zero suspension.
An automatic on the column too...Stick shift only when filming.
Danny./ And its a single track.
It really rolls around the corners.
Danny Zuehlsdorf that under hood shot they showed is not that car. The strut towers are way too far forward. That was an under hood shot of a Mustang or cougar
Yeah, the under hood should have been the same colour as the exterior, haha !!
Big Blocks Boats rock and they used to be cheap. Great series of flicks!
I had a 77 Ford LTD with a 351/400m. Wasn't quick off the line but the one wheel peel for 50 feet was easy as pie.
There was a time you could "build" cars at the dealer.I think that went away around 1968. This wasn't one of them
Last year for factory full size 429/4-speed combo was 69
Love THIS Movie probably my favorite Burt Renyolds Movie
Lone wolf Mcquade yeah, how about Gator? (Mccluskey)
Our uncle had an LTD the same color just like it only had a 351, It still would roast the tires pretty good, They also had '73 Grand Torino 2 door almost like the one in the Clint East movie only it was a plain Jane model with the bench seat and the police style hub caps

I still own a 1973 Ford Torino 2-door, original unrestored, factory 2B bright red paint, black bench seat, 351, FMX.
You should have replaced the valve, C MH. Any decent mechanic would have done so.
Dick Welts Sounds awesome man.
Those old 351Ws ran pretty good.
Classic!!!
Back when Burt was total badass 👍🚗💨💨💨
Watch Deliverance too. Classic 👍
"I was born ready." One of my fav movie lines ever, delivered by Burt Reynold at his young, hot and sweaty best. lolol
steemdup i remember this movie.71 ltd. Mine had a 400 modified. Drove like a dish rag.
Them hot sweaty baby dolls looking for fun in them small towns.thats what im talkin bout
the Duke used it first in true grit.
That was Sally Fields line in smokey and the bandit !
Joseph Donnelly :
True Grit w/John Wayne was many years AFTER Smokie n' the Bandit.
"White Lightning" in 12 minutes. Brings back memories.
Hey snowman I'm coming. It may take me 4 years to get there .I'm east bound, just watch This "Bandit" run.
That is one wicked fast Ford LTD. A 4-Door muscle car of the 70's.
All that power and only one wheel drive. Brilliant.
Even though it was done by stunt men, you know the guy being the cop on the motorcycle had to be like "OH SHIT" for just a second.
Reality, No computer effects, natural overall!!!
Good shit thanks for posting
That car "squeels like a pig"
A reference to the Burt Renoylds movie DELIVERENCE
There's a dude who built one of these cars in Jersey, I seen it at the Wildwood car show in South Jersey, not the Snookie Jersey shore in North Jersey!!!
You could still order this combo in 71- 72..when automatics became the standard.
great acting love the look on Reynolds face when he first meets ned beatty! classic!...women and the police!
Who sings the song at the end of the movie? Funeral scene ? Can't find it
At 8:37 I think I saw him shift from 3rd into into "shaky puddin" haha
ford custom 500 ltd 429 4 speed manual and dual carb helll no wonder it pull away so easy
Man. That old LTD sounds good they never had short thro 4 speeds. But Muncie 4 speeds could fit any thing. Alot of muscle cars were fed there deaths on dirt tracks
Cars really handled back then.
1:07 he says dual carburetors, but it's obviously single carb. a few seconds earlier...
I can handle these old cars like this and yes, i do have sideburns. Lol
Yeah not dual carbs, I'm not sure, but I dont think its a 429 either, looks possibly like a 351windsor.

11:24 the font for the end credits - wasn't that the same font used for the opening credits on The Dukes Of Hazzard? Pay attention to the A's and H's.
Wha?? Nobody else in the world would even notice that.
I watched a lot of Dukes, and I have a weird brain that I notice little things like that. lol
What speedway is that where he meets his contact at?
Thanks!!
Love that old Dodge fire truck!
Archer brought me here.
Gotta Love it :)
He said "dual carborators". I saw only one 4 barrel. Which is plenty...
Gotta love those cars that had 4 speeds that didnt have 4 speeds..........
I watched the whole movie of this,i noticed sometimes hes shifting on the colum and sometimes on the floor
not to mention the Hurst shifters all the way around....
+Eric Kort
It’s a magical transmission!!!
One of the earliest manual automatic transmissions in existence!!!
Plenty of skid and burnout marks on the street, from previous takes! LOL!
4:47 That woman makes me think there's a tornado coming any minute to take her tray-lor.
What happened to the final chase scene BEFORE Connors drowns in the lake?
Never mind. I found it. Thx
Great Movie !
yeah he's banging gears with a top loader 4 speed then when he pulls up to his daddy's house for the first time from the right rear of the car you see him put the car in park.
Amazon doesn't list it...
Did the camera need to be on the shifter each time he changed gears?
leonard payne. Yea it did. dumbass
Those one wheel peels, good lord.
Burt got posi in Smokey and the Bandit...
That car looks like fun.
2:13 the Arkansas police car has exclusively blue emergency lights on the roof. Which other US states have police cars with solely blue lights?
Alabama State Troopers are all blue lights.
Weird seeing Burt without the mustache
aint nobody ever beat junior Johnson!
I didn't know LTD's had shock towers in them....they don't.
Can you upload scenes from "Vanishing Point" (1971)? I havent seen it ANYWHERE on UA-cam.
ua-cam.com/video/E9J_xORkILw/v-deo.html
Shakey Pudding
Gator wasn't playin in that Ltd!
Zero handbraked fishtails.
4 speed 4 door cool
Chris Hanson ....in several scenes it was an automatic on the column...
Yeah when he said "dual carbs" he meant to say dual transmissions haha
Bug Bomb I know man I really wish Ford really made a 429 powered 4-speed Sedan.
I guess it is the price of being old, A fella realizes this young bunch dont know nuthin ,. LOL, FORD DID build and would puta 429 in any and all 2 dr and 4dr galaxie ,mercury marquis and monterey chassis from 1969-1972 .They could be special ordered with a 429, that was before low compression engines. them old radials still handling lol
One Of The Greatest Movies...

Burt looks weird without his mustache
I guess he really enjoys being chased by the cops, at least this time he didn't destroy a Citroen SM...
it's a 4 speed lol ? Watch carefully lmao ...
How Cool 😎!...
AA is for what?
351 C is enough to walk on your ask ?
Loved gator,,, and would love to have shaky puddin
could you even order this car with a 4 speed?
no
No, last year 1969 for full size factory 429/4-speed
Always run from cops if u are smart to lose them
4 door High Performance American cars were mot uncommon at the time
DWH BOI exactly we used soup up anything that had a V8 and turn it into n animal 63 Chey Biscayne bell air it was the cheapest down grade of the Impala there was but with that 409 4 speed in there look s we're deciving
push it to the limits, drive the fuck out of it. lol. what Ed does with a guitar.
