London looks like an absolute nightmare today. I cycled there from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s and it was actually a lot safer without the bike lanes, probably because I was just one of a handful of cyclists you saw in the city on a weekly basis, and maybe drivers saw me as an eccentric oddity back then. I had no accidents or dangerous encounters during this time. Nowadays it seems like Tour de France has come to the city and that they are all cycling for death or glory - it looks immensely dangerous. Plus thin tyres and those grid covers!!!!
Overall good cycling apart from your aversion to easing off a bit when a vehicle in front is indicating to turn left. Granted, I do my cycling in Edinburgh where we probably pootle along at a more sedate pace than your average Lomdon cyclist
I think we were focusing on the poor driving as opposed to “good cycling” (a crushed and dead cyclist is still dead regardless of how “good” he/ she might have been!)…
Honestly, most of these incidents would be avoided if bycicles were not forced to ride at the left of the lane. It´s just not safe. If there is just one lane its not safe to pass (either a bike passing a car or viceversa), there is no room for bike + safety distance + car. Here is Spain you can use the middle of the lane (in urban roads), thus most of this incidents are avoided.
Well, I ride with belief that everyone around me is blind. Even if I have the right of way, I always slow down, assuming that they didn't see me. And quite a few times they actualy didn't and if I didn't stop, it would be unfortunate situation.

The .oval authority could not tell who rented the bike or its logged journey! What is the point of accountability if the rental provider does not know who is using their e scooters !
Really? I was under the impression you have to register and activate the rental scooter via an app? (The rider would be duty bound to declare that when they exchanged details)..
I believe the rental company has to be fully insured for third party damages as part of their local authority contract agreement. Just because they were unable to declare the user at that time is irrelevant (I believe)..( I would advise your friend to follow this one up if your story is true..)
I wouldn’t cycle on roads like these. Painting cycle lanes on an existing busy road does not change vehicle behaviour or offer any protection, especially when cyclists break the rules as often as motorists.
In reading comments, some can't accept reality that cyclists do in fact act illegally and dangerously including in this video at 4.34 and 4.44 riding through the red and why they need number plates and the road rules also covers cyclists.
A number plate would be pointless, for many reasons but the main ones are; 1. Car drivers constantly claim that they can't see cyclists, so how can they possibly see or take note of a number plate on a bicycle, which would be very small, because it's on a bicycle. 2. There's not one single car driver, and very few other people, that could successfully name the brand and model of a bicycle as it went by, 3. a bicycle doesn't have a VIN, so it can't be registered in the same scheme as motor vehicles. 4. It doesn't have a motor, so see item 3. Traffic lights aren't triggered by a bicycle, so a red light camera also won't be triggered. Even my motorcycle doesn't trigger lights, so I know for sure there's no hope for most bicycles, and certainly not carbon ones. The whole number plate fiasco has been touted for more than fourteen years; there's a reason it's not a thing. Wake up.
