This justsomerandomguy online makes me sad, he's so lonely that the only form of human interaction he has is bating people into sending him hateful messages
i liked thin ice it was well paced and easy to follow, they had the victorian setting and tone done well, events do have payoff and resonate through the episode. and i loved capaldi and bill arguing about moving on from the death of a small child, when bill had never seen anyone die before. it helps a lot to set aside the reused 'kill the moon'-esque story
Controversial this may sound, but I personally found Series 9 to be the best season of Modern Era Doctor Who, and is certainly both Steven Moffat and Peter Capaldi's best season overall. We see both Capaldi and Jenna Coleman at their best with Capaldi finally coming into his own as Twelve and it was this particular season that made him my personal favourite Doctor alongside Tom Baker. Clara was allowed to shine alongside Capaldi to create a perfect Doctor/companion duo, plus her exit in 'Face the Raven' was beautifully handled. This season also had a lot of great stories with plenty of twists and epic moments that stayed with me long after I had watched them with some being my personal favourites of all time like 'The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar' and obviously 'Heaven Sent'. Also, bringing back the two-parter format worked perfectly. While I personally found 'Hell Bent' deeply flawed, I didn't think it was the worst episode in Doctor Who history, plus 'Sleep No More' was just passable at best for me. In the end, this ranks alongside Series 4 and 5 as one of the strongest seasons we've had in Modern Who to date.
I enjoy Robot of Sherwood as standard doctor who bullshit that doesn't take itself seriously. Also, I thought Listen was just good on first watch when it aired and then 3 years later I hated it on second watch and now I think it's great.
My biggest problem is that they waste Maisie Williams. You could have done so much more with her and that immortal character, but she’s so poorly utilised to the point where you recognise they cast her for recognition, not for her ability.
I properly rate thin ice. I’d give it a 7. I like historicals so maybe that’s a bit of a bias but the start is just fun, like Bill dressing up and her and the Doctor just exploring and having so much fun, like Capaldi trying to steal a pie, it’s so jokes mate. But also you’ve got Bill learning about the Doctor and I think this is the episode she really starts to understood him, all the interactions with them are great and the only nutrition I need. you’ve also got other good stuff like Capaldi hanging out with kids, which is great and yah everything with the fish is shit but Capaldi’s monologue about racism/people is so dope. 2:33:00 no, that was Steven. Steven dedicated an entire story arc to the Doctor's name. Where other writers just casually made a point never to reveal his name or else lose the mystery, Steven overdramtised the enigma.
(This is around the 56minute mark) I love the irony of you guys giving 9 a wolf, then 10 a golden retriever- referencing roses stint as the bad “wolf” in 9s era, which softened 9 up to be the happy boy “golden retriever” 10 became. And I know this reference was unintentional bc of how much stink you like to throw at the rose/doctor relationship. Still pretty amazing tho

First, thanks to the guys for posting this review. It was fun. Now then, there were some episode ratings I thought the guys were totally wrong, whether they were good or bad. Totally wrong. And yet I'd have to say I agree with there overall rating for each series. Even though Capaldi had some incredible individual moments in series 8 & 9, his best series was the last one, for me anyway. You see his character grow with each series reaching who he truly turns out to be in series 10, and he's awesome .... "Never be cruel and never be cowardly. And if you are, always make amends".
I think it's really interesting that I didn't really like Series 8 until after 9 and especially after 10, because I didn't know where it was going and now I can see it as a step on the journey instead of just What Doctor Who Is Now,

Hell Bent annoyed me for a number of reasons. 1. The mission statement of the 50th Anniversary was The Doctor finding Gallifrey, and this just felt too soon and too easy. 2. I got tired of them ruining great ends to Clara's story. 3. I didn't like the Hybrid storyline. I didn't like how they retoconned it into the reason why The Doctor left Gallifrey, even though the timelords had so many opportunities to question him about it since then, and it just didn't make sense for me.
I know everyone is going to think I'm trolling or goofing, but I honestly do love Robot of Sherwood. It's the Capaldi episode I re-watch the most and I love the campness of it all. It reminds me of their grand father/grand daughter relationship like a parent begrudgingly taking their child to Disneyland despite really not wanting to be there. I interpreted the Doctor fighting with Robin less as a dick-measuring competition and more like a father who's really unimpressed with his daughter's crush and wondering why the hell she'd want to meet this cheesy, show-offish guy. For me the humor all lands and yeah, the robots are kinda bland as villains but I forgive it because all the other components work for me. I do understand that it's a very marmite episode though and I'm definitely in the vast minority for enjoying it, I guess it's a guilty pleasure. Btw I really hope you do a review slideshow for Chibnall's second series, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new master, Ruth and the timeless child you guys are my favourite Doctor Who reviewers (if that's the term? 🤔)
@@northnikfilms9903 Having Clara survive and fly off in a Tardis Cafe with Me is so lame. Her previous two endings were much better. When you consider that a similar thing happened to Bill, its clear Moffat lost the balls to kill his characters off
I know this was months ago... and I sincerely doubt youd be back here to read this comment...but in the off chance that you are... There's actually a pretty good arc between the Doctor and Danny Pink, and it ties with how the Doctor was upholding himself to some sort of standard to live up to the name of the Doctor in series 8. We know it concludes with him declaring that really... The Doctor... as a figure... Is really just an idiot... in a box... Helping out... Stuff like that And one of the people who made him realize this was Danny... During the beginning of series 8 however, the Doctor always treated Soldiers(and as such, Danny) with contempt, treating them like mindless followers, and something that the Doctor must never become. He was proven wrong in the last episode, when he saw Danny as a Cyber man. That was when he realized how terrible his assessment of people like this has been. There's a better character analysis out there in reddit that I read a while ago, and I cannot for the life of me recall where it is, and it essentially explained what I talked about in this comment in better detail
This looks like a golden age of Dr. Who compared with what was to follow. Capaldi stops it being near impossible to give a low rating as he is that good in the role. There were dud episodes as there always will be, even Tom Baker had his share in his final years, but there were also some brilliant stories. In seasons 11 -13 I can think of only two episodes I enjoyed and even they only get a six and a seven. Yes, sorry, I am in the camp that believes Chibnall destroyed Doctor Who. Incredibly he almost did all by himself with those woeful scripts.
Imagine if classic Doctor Who used celebrities in its episodes like modern Doctor Who does “Look, it’s [Insert celebrity name here]!” Oh wait, they did, it’s Peter Davison and he’s the 5th Doctor 😝
I like the episode Pyramid at the end of the world but I don't like the episode Lie of the land as I feel that the monks were defeated too easily. Monks have simulated every possible future so I think that they would have seen this outcome as well and stopped this future from happening unless they wanted it to happen.
About Forest of the Night: Yeah it was pretty meh, but not as bad as all that. It clearly shows that Clara had some extra adventures with the Doctor we don't see AND she hasn't told Danny any of it, as shown by her marking left behind on the TARDIS, which leads directly to the events of Dark Water and Danny's death. The Earth was being threatened by the same thing that destroyed the Bank of Karobraxos in Time Heist: a solar ejection strong enough to wipe out the surface of the planet. But unlike Karobraxos, which is just a planet sized bank, the Earth has natural defenses, namely the trees. The little girl Maeve Arden doesn't cause the trees to do this, she just "hears" their thoughts, presumably because she has been looking so long and hard for her missing older sister. (Yeah, not quite sure I buy that whole thing either.) The trees have known for a while because it's happened before so they probably know the signs by now, and she's been picking this up, which is how she drew a picture of it for her homework days before the event and put the date it was going to happen on the page instead of the date she did the drawing. But humans keep trying to cut and burn the trees, so they use Maeve as a messenger to get the Doctor. Unfortunately, he's mostly clueless, but figures it out in the end. The very end where the older sister reappears out of some bush is bullshit though. Has she been a bush all year? Did the trees kidnap her? I feel that part is never explained or resolved. And also, the is no night in Forest of the Night, so there's that weirdness. Capaldi as always is adorable with kids, but they didn't really give him much to work with here. The Doctor took way too long to add everything up considering they just did Time Heist, but then again, we don't know how long ago that was for him because he only sees Clara sporadically; it's weekly for her, but could very well be months or years for him (would explain why he keeps forgetting things and coming late). We also get to see things from a relatively normal perspective, usually the companion's job. But Clara is more like the Doctor than not, so her priorities a little skewed, whereas Danny is more concerned about the welfare of the children. I really wish we got an adventure with Clara, Danny and the Doctor to see a bit more of that grounding influence. Overall, maybe 5.5/10 but this one was lacking a bit in story and direction.
I was excited for Capaldi from the off.... but that's cuz I couldn't wait to get Smith's ass get kicked outta the Tardis. Probably the best overall Doctor character arc ever.
Lol really? I can see why people didnt like it but worst than Love and Monsters or Fear Her or Daleks of Manhattan or Kill the Moon? Why do you hate it so much? I would watch it over any Chibnal episode
Finally watched all three of your doctor who videos, they've been a good companion while cooking dinner, waiting in queues, on the train. Really enjoyed it though I disagree with a few choices like the high rating for Hell Bent and Shitemare in Silver but mostly on point.
Hated Robot of Sherwood on first watch but It is so fun on rewatch. The plot is still pretty crap and the ending is ridiculous but the constant bickering is what I love about it. Its not good as an episode but if I want to laugh its great

Can you place the mic more in the center of the screen next time?
Here we goooo
Danny Pink is my daddy.
I was excited for Capaldi from the off.... but that's cuz I couldn't wait to get Smith's ass get kicked outta the Tardis.
Probably the best overall Doctor character arc ever.
Is it just me or was Sleep No More the worst episode of Who ever?
Loras Tyrell it was bad but not the worst ever.
@@frazzlesreviews5379 Yeah, it definitely failed at what it was trying to do but I wouldn't call it terrible.
Lol really? I can see why people didnt like it but worst than Love and Monsters or Fear Her or Daleks of Manhattan or Kill the Moon?
Why do you hate it so much? I would watch it over any Chibnal episode
2:11:19 actually no one dies they all escape in the end.
Finally watched all three of your doctor who videos, they've been a good companion while cooking dinner, waiting in queues, on the train. Really enjoyed it though I disagree with a few choices like the high rating for Hell Bent and Shitemare in Silver but mostly on point.
I wanted the Mondasian cybermen to have to stupid voices they had in The Tenth Planet.
"We are caaaalled cyyybermen"
Try one of these with Classic Who plz
finally!
Hated Robot of Sherwood on first watch but It is so fun on rewatch. The plot is still pretty crap and the ending is ridiculous but the constant bickering is what I love about it. Its not good as an episode but if I want to laugh its great
So Doctor Who is meh, but we really want it to be good? Like please?
That's basically been their point through their recent "Doctor Who is a mess" series.
Please review all the children in need/red nose day specials.
i like the mighty boosh reference!
If we're looking at the pattern, at least we only have two more seasons of Jodie
Or better, Chibnall just leaves and then Jodie could be alright as a doctor
If only 10 kept the horse from Girl in the Fireplace. Allons-y! *horse neigh* 🐎
The War Doctor would have a shark.
Face the Raven is fucking great imo. Maisie Williams is the only let down and the Clara death is ruined by what happens in Hell Bent. By itself though, it’s at least a 9/10

I like Robots of Sherwood and you look better without a beard NITPICKX, BAM BOOM ROASTED
Bill is a great companion... compared to chibnall’s cardboard cutout companions.
Definitely do a Star Trek video
It’s a shame that Mark Gatis episodes are always bad because he’s a really good writer and actor.
