I feel like we just went from one extreme to another. The original toy had a crappy beast mode, but the robot mode was at least serviceable with the right weapon. This toy has an amazing beast mode, but the robot mode suffers for it and gets the wrong weapon. Here's hoping the Master Piece version finally strikes the right balance.
Cheetor in robot mode, the back part.. they should have made it separable so it'll be just flaps in the back and made it look like cheetor has a cape or something
I like to think of the back kibble as a backpack of sorts and the weapons don't bother me due to him having so many different weapons between incarnations. Also on a side note, confuzzled is the name of a furry convention which makes the choice of using it over its synonyms very interesting.
1. I guess that face is akin to Transmetal or Transmetal 2 Cheetor... 2. I guess the head sculpt was meant for Tigatron...but when they realized how badly the Cheetor mold turned out, they decided to scrap it. But it ain't the first or only time a Classics-era figure was kibbletastic (Classics Voyager Optimus, Classics Hot Rod, Classics Voyager Megatron, Classics Bumblebee, Universe V2 Octane, etc.).
You know, after kingdom cheetor came out, this is probably one of my least favorite transformers ever. Horrendous robot mode, odd transformation, and the beast mode is pretty goddamn strange in comparison to the kingdom beast mode, which is basically perfect.
I don't hate him nearly as much as everyone else, actually. The excessive arm and rear kibble is somewhat annoying but the overall robot aesthetic is passable with some poseability and I can totally have fun with posing the beast mode. Certainly not the best from Universe 2.0 but also nowhere near Plastic Addict level too imho.
Also, the paintjob is pretty good. This wouldn't have been all that remarkable of a thing back in 2009 but hey, modern CHUG teaches us not to take a good paintjob for granted.
Due to the weaponry, proportions, and the fact that the Japanese version has gold on his head, I think that this was supposed to be a combination of the beast wars and beast machines figures.
Why didn't they just put the level at the back of the head?! It didn't need to go all the way to the back. That could have freed some bulk for the arms and keep the cheetah legs as backpack. No one minds that kind of kibble if its accurate.
Look. I recentlyjust got more into beast wars due to the new masterpiece dinobot. I DONT MIND THE ROBOT MODE, I think it's good for what it is and would be good for someone like me who is looking for decent beast wars figures that don't make me end up living in a cardboard box on the side of the road.
Honestly, I know you say this is bad, and you've pointed everything out, but I don't see it. Weapons are inaccurate? That's linewide. Optimus didn't have a windvein gun, nor a smokestack rifle. It was just a cool weapon. This is a neat redesign with interesting callbacks and the backpack is the biggest issue I have with it, but even then, it's hardly one at all. Solid figure to me
nope, the horrible backpack and robot propotions are because the stupid gimmick, not, the sleek proportions in cheeta mode, the legs could have folded into the feed, as some mods show, but the budget was blown because the gimmick
On the one hand, it was him and Universe 2 Dinobot that got me into collecting. They were the first transformers I had ever bought for myself (I'm a BW guy who never gravitated towards the Armada trilogy) and I still remember the excitement I felt for them. On the other hand, I hardly ever touch this guy because he's simply awful. I can't get mad at him because of what he represents, but there's too much missed potential and shoddy design to make me like him.
Not to defend questionable design, but to answer your question of when Cheetor was a ninja, watch some Beast Machines. No really; it isn't overt like it is with BM Silverbolt, but I've got a speedy, stealthy, swordsman constantly doing things with swords that basically require magic, and just to fit an animé trope, seems to have intentionally selected colors to mitigate what should be a somewhat camouflaged appearance. Actually, go watch Beast Machines and then stop *right* before they add Botanica. I once was in a long, message board discussion/debate with a friend over the series and I actually like Beast Machines a *lot* better now after getting it only to prove to my friend how bad it actually was. XD
I hope that the masterpiece don't impide them doing a newer and actually good one for the mainstream line... I always always wanted an original beast form cheetor and never could have one :( Anyway, this one.... I don't understand why they weren't able to replicate the same transformation scheme of the original but with better ingeniering to make a sleeker cheeta :(
Let me put it to you this way. If I have to spend half a review praising the beast mode, one of the best articulated beast modes we had to that point, would it really feel like Plastic Addict? I can't judge it simply on one mode, both modes need to give me material to work with.
I still think it would and is Addict-worthy. The gimmick in beast mode makes the robot mode worse, so there's something at least the beast mode screws up on.
In fairness, Cheetor does seem like the sort of guy to buy shurikens online because he thinks they're ultra gear.
3:35 when you do a pun accidentaly
He looks like the love child of beast wars and beast machines
Glad that we have the Kingdom Cheetor now.
I guess you could say that toy wasn't SPOT on
Oh jesus
[laughing like a maniac] couldn't resist
Get out.
*NOW*
🤣🤣
I thank Takara that were getting the Masterpiece.
I'm also super Hyped for Masterpiece Dinobot.
The kingdom figure makes this look so bad
The tail gun could have alleviated part of the huge backpack.
Having the mouth opening gimmick operated by a tab on the back of the head.
Or better yet, get rid of the gimmick. It's too minor a feature for the sacrifices required, and it doesn't even feel in character for him.
Personally, he looks great in his robot mode, because of hes proportions, kinda looks like an anime super robot esc, thing
the red eyes are a reference to his transmetal 2 form , in which he randomly went savage
mystic mhya Nope, it's a reference to the red-eyed variant of the original toy.
Why not both?
I feel like we just went from one extreme to another. The original toy had a crappy beast mode, but the robot mode was at least serviceable with the right weapon. actually the flash would probably be much more effective using shurikens

I'll stick with the Fox Kids repaint of classic Cheetor. At least there's some charm to the guy even if his cheetah mode is a fatty.
You know, after kingdom cheetor came out, this is probably one of my least favorite transformers ever. Horrendous robot mode, odd transformation, and the beast mode is pretty goddamn strange in comparison to the kingdom beast mode, which is basically perfect.
If the cheetah mode is that much better than the robot mode, you'd be better off getting a toy cheetah that's just a cheetah.
Can't wait for the masterpiece
the transmetal one did have moving front legs, not to mention Cheetor is speed not strength
I don't hate him nearly as much as everyone else, actually. The excessive arm and rear kibble is somewhat annoying but the overall robot aesthetic is passable with some poseability and I can totally have fun with posing the beast mode. MEOW, that's a cool kitty!!!...Is it bad that I want a Generations Cheetor?
Hey, we finally got it
Due to the weaponry, proportions, and the fact that the Japanese version has gold on his head, I think that this was supposed to be a combination of the beast wars and beast machines figures.
Welp, he's whipping out his Cheetus again.
😏
At least he has a Maximal logo on his chest
Why didn't they just put the level at the back of the head?! It didn't need to go all the way to the back. That could have freed some bulk for the arms and keep the cheetah legs as backpack. No one minds that kind of kibble if its accurate.
Curious what inspired you to become a reviewer? was it Armada :)
AVGN
OptimusPhillip she was asking TJOmega, not you
Meth Kitty!
Without the gimmick this might have had a decent robot mode.
Another solid review! Did you ever end up getting your MP Star Saber??
Could you review something dangerously close to being a plastic addict victim, but has something that saves it?
He already has - Transformers: Prime Knockout.
Something other than that
Lookie that, three Predacons disliked this video XD
In the case of the legs, it's KIND of understandable. To a POINT.

Why is this not a Plastic Addict
so not an improvement,id rather have a cheetor thats thicc and accurate than a cheetor thats fiddly and lanky
Lol this week's episode of the flash actually had a flash throughing shuriken.. it was not good
I hope that the masterpiece don't impide them doing a newer and actually good one for the mainstream line... I always always wanted an original beast form cheetor and never could have one :(

I seen a looooooooot wors!
TJ, this is a great review. However, I gotta say, he really should have been a Plastic Addict review. Sorry.
Well, the cheetah mode is really good, and that means it's half good.
Jonathan Ellis the cheetah mode somewhat saved this toy
Somewhat, but IMHO, just not enough.
Let me put it to you this way. If I have to spend half a review praising the beast mode, one of the best articulated beast modes we had to that point, would it really feel like Plastic Addict? I can't judge it simply on one mode, both modes need to give me material to work with.

MP-34 Beast Wars Cheetor is way more superior than this model.
the old one's robot mode is better and his weapon
Can never unsee the crotch face! Honestly I was disappointed in my mp... but at least I like it better than this one.
they should have just made the kid appeal character in beast wars a beetle, like they did in g1
yay notification squad!
hey I own this. it's kinda bad
lame
Meth Kitty!
