One incredible aspect of Assassin's Creed is the detail and historical accuracy of each world. The series takes us to places like Renaissance Italy, the French Revolution, and even Ancient Greece. It's easy to see why so many of us love these games. Now as somebody that plays Assassin’s Creed quite extensively, it’s the design of each world for me that makes the series so special. So what I'm going to do in this video is rank the world of all 13 mainline Assassin’s Creed games from worst to best

Assassin's Creed is an open-world, action-adventure, and stealth game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed video game series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Order of Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction, and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and historical figures. In most games, players control a historical Assassin while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin-Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. Considered a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.

Unity is so good. I wish it had a Napoleonic War DLC.
It kinda did, dead kings
@@Doodin23 I would say that’s more of the French Revolution since it takes place not long after unity.
@@verdun16 kinda feels differently imo, feels like there's nothing we can do.
@@verdun16it takes place in 1803, almost 9 years after unity
@@derangedcrouton1864 Yeah but Napoleon was crowned emperor in 1804, so it’s still not a napoleonic war dlc.
Tbh Arno and Connor tracking Shay together during the napoleonic war could be a new game in itself.
The fact that they used Notre Dame from Unity to help rebuild it says it all with regards to its graphical fidelity.
I've been replaying AC orgiins and egypt is amazing
Truss luv gladiator fights in origins hope they return in ac red 😁
@@DanW21 the gladiator fight returning in red... that's set in Japan??
Sorta but desert got boring quick. Think I'm a bit salty though as I felt the combat felt too spongey
@@matthulme2388 yeah there's so much hype on the internet about origins that it is worrh playing in 2024 i got bored really quick i should have bought ac unity than origins
I did play ac 2 and ac3 which were interesting but bought ac 4 got bored because of naval combat
@@ziyaansyed literally most of the way through playing unity now (after playing ac2, acb and ac 3) and didn't like unity on my first playthrough). Unity might be my favorite now
placing valhalla last is WILD
Nah 😂 Unity #1 🗣️
It sucks, completely opposite of what ac world should be
Greece from Odyssey is easily the best to me. That map and all of the DLC maps are perfect. I'm so excited for Red.
Love ubi quebec ❤
For me, Valhalla’s map was the best.
World was just so empty / thin / meaningless which was gutting
@@OnTheWax yes. And somehow the NPCs are worse than in AC2. They are almost on the same level as Skyrim npcs
Not sure what you mean by empty... odyssey was packed with content.. the world was realistic which is indeed empty.. but at least lived in unlike the world of for example the witcher which is much less immersive@OnTheWax
Valhalla is either loved or hated, I genuinely am shocked that it’s so low, let alone not in the top 5. It is absolutely stunning, and tbf is far from a traditional AC setting, but that broodish mood is exactly what I was wanting.
Norway alone puts it ahead of Rogue, it's crazy to have it last.
Norway is fucking beatiful man and the Northern lights damn@@telltellyn
@@CYB3R2K Yeah you’re right, but tbh the Assassins Creed concept is not what draws me in, it’s always been the setting, same with other games, so I’m again very much part of the outlier group here. I enjoyed the more Assassin-centric games, but it’s not a priority for me.
AC Syndicate settings give me a reason to study and learn so much about England history. My obsession with Black Butler get me interested in the Victorian Era lol but AC Syndicate always been number 1 in setting.
For me it’s always a hard choice between Odyssey and Valhalla. The amount of detail the developers put into Odyssey is just amazing. Like the giant snake skeleton near Delphi as a reference to to Apollo killing a snake so that Delphi gets it’s clairvoyant ability. Or the giant statue of Athena on the Akropolis which was destroyed almost a thousand years ago. And Valhalla’s huge forest with fog etc really adds an almost supernatural factor to the game. But if I had to choose I’d always pick Ancient Greece
Rogue should be higher. Having a variety of maps with snow, a foresty environment and a city is better than one big map with the same setting imo
idk id rather one setting with a lot of love and detail put into into it then quantity imo
I would agree IF they treated rogue better. Lisbon and Quebec were supposed to be playable maps but were removed. I think this is why he ranked it this way
I get your point but imo those areas were quite lackluster
Fr
I agree rogues setting was one of the best!
England is my favorite setting due to the lush green landscapes and beautiful sunsets.
YES happy to see Unity as number one. The setting is absolutely incredible. By far the best setting in the series. The buildings are beautiful, large crowds, and you can enter many interiors.
Unity is my fav game and the setting is the main reason
The bit where you talk about Odyssey being your comfort game hit so hard. I played it early Covid and I will just never forget that experience. The game gets a lot of hate so it was nice hearing your thoughts on it!
For me what also gave personallity to those games with its first entries was the crowd and all the social stealth that came with it. I liked how you had to pay attention to the crowd when traversing cities:
- Walking quickly at the risk of bumping with someone holding a vase/crate and breaking your stealth approach or walking slower but making sure you avoid NPCs.
- Running quickly at the risk of bumping into someone and falling or running slower but making sure to push people away and not get slowed down.
- In AC1, avoid crazy people who will shove you aside, breaking your stealth approach.
Alongside the recruitable NPCs we got with AC2 (courtesans, mercenaries, thieves), all those things brought some personality to the world and unique mechanics to the game. I was sad when, starting with AC3, the character would automatically run at full speed and remove civilians from his way, it just made the crowd part of the decor now, like any building, instead of having it be a "character" of its own to pay attention to.
Valhalla is my fav. I love Norway and England. Especially Northern parts of England.
Finally i saw someone admire this game
It deserve to be best world game i have ever seen
Me too.. AC Valhalla is my only AC with 100% completion 😂 and i like roaming freely in the world of Valhalla
its beautiful but its just way too empty
Yea bro i never did mysteries cuz they just felt dookie@@arditazman6823
There's something about Colonial America in AC3 that always grabs me in how authentic it feels as opposed to being vibrant or lively as some of the other settings in the franchise. The Frontier in was very reminiscent of the Kingdom from AC1. Compared to most nature oriented open-worlds, it always felt a lot more grounded and dynamic with its NPC's and events, which always drew me back to it whenever I replay. In the Black Hills section of the map, you could literally parkour amongst the trees for long stretches of time and see the beauty that really shines through in the remaster. Along with the beautiful Winter setting which really brings everything to life even more.
I agree. It truly felt like the devs wanted an authentic approximation of the setting in AC3 and not a sandbox that just catered to what players had come to expect (i.e. sprawling high buildings, rooftops and 'exotic' sights). Like they chose Revolutionary America and then went full-send when it came time to flesh it out, doing their best with the tech available to them at the time. It sets the game apart from the ones before it and makes for a very immersive experience.
Bcz ac3 openworld is detailed, from npc having day today activity to animals doing hunting, drinking, cuddling etc
Kyd also made the eadly sountracks to the Hitman Franchise! He's single handedly made multiple outstanding world loved soundtracks to the two best Stealth Franchises on the planet. His work is so heavily underrated, I'm so glad you pointed that out! 💜
same
Origins definitely had care put into it
Call me a hater but AC 1 not being deadlast is pure glazing.
Btw I keep watching your channel for a few reasons, but the biggest one is how we have a huge difference in opinions and most of the time you do a fine job of getting your point across. It's fun debating with you in my head while watching and the fact that your content is well structured and edited keeps me coming back after each upload. Cheers bro!
Bro ac1 is easy top3 for me lol
it's funny that he ranks AC1's world higher than ACB's when AC1's world suffers from the worst monotony and boring empty space problems in the series, which are the very reasons he stated for ranking Rome so low.
This was a really cool video bro!!!
I’m playing ac odyssey while your speaking
Me too
I just bought it
It was so cool playing ac3 for the first time last year. At school I was learning about 19th century canadian history, so the setting of ac3 connected to history class a little
I really enjoyed the Rift missions that gave you just a taste of the setting in different time periods, like La Belle Époque in Paris and WWI in England.
i like both the revolution settings
so lively
Paris in Unity is a masterpiece, no one can change my mind🔥
It felt a bit TOO small, like Revelations-sized
If only it wasn't in a poorly made broken mess of a game
Prolly would’ve been too many gigabytes to download if they made the map bigger with the insanely good graphics loading all of it lol
Great one🔥🎉
The sidequest in valhalla including those stones which every time you count them are different will never leave my head.
I love Odyssey and Valhalla because they are just located beautiful places, the landscapes in both are insane
This video helped me decide which to play next thanks! I’m currently on odyssey and was going between Valhalla and syndicate on next up. Great video
I would personally go Syndicate honestly. You're already doing Odyssey which is big open world try Syndicate since it's the last I will say traditional style of AC games. Plus London is beautiful and the rope launcher is honestly one of my favorite things in the series. It's a time saver and gliding the distances is fun for me to watch.
Hidden one, can you make a video about what the most emotional sequence or mission was in each game?
Such odd timing you release this today, as I just made my own rankings and watched other creators rankings this morning 😂
This video was so entertaining.I absolutely love Ancient Greece. I love Greek history and when odyssey came out it was a dream come true. Thanks for making this vid it was so interesting to see what you think
in my opinion my enjoyment of the games comes down to how interested I am in the history of the setting, as an Irishman the American revolution doesn't interest me too much but classical Greece baffles me, at this point the whole assassin/templar thing has gone over my head and it's just a history sim at this stage!
Honestly I relate. Being Arab, Baghdad was my favorite to explore and Egypt is second
One thing about AC origins i love is if you go to the cave where Layla is doing her shit. Bayek tells you thats where him and Amunet first fell in love and perhaps they should end it there too. Giving that location a whole different tone.
Thank you for giving syndicate the recognition it deserves. Absolute gem of a setting and an overall good game overshadowed by franchise fatigue at the time.
i would critique your 1st choice:
1.) there is no negative spaces like in origins, the negative spaces are good for an AC game, and the unitys world desigh is terreble, you do not get a sense of discoverey,
2.) it does not take place during the entirety of the french revolutuion, it only happens within one city, other places of france is fascinatong for the french revolution.
3.) the city is crowded, which is annoying for many people who want to traverse the world.
4.) the city is dull with monotone colours and dull atmosphere.
Next: Ranking the DLC worlds please! Saint-Domingue of Freedom Cry and Empirical America from Washington DLC are great! And Elysium and Atlantis from Odyssey are fantastic!
i veyr much misunderstood the title and went into this fully expecting a whole video detailing and ranking every option in the settings menus of the games, i have no idea why i was kinda up for watching that
I'm new to AC so I don't have much to say on that matter
I've only really played 2 of them for now: Syndicate that I already finished twice, and 3 that I'm currently playing
But yeah I completely agree with what you said about these 2
"Baghdaddy"- The hidden one 2024
Now this list is different, that's what we love to see. Finally someone who's not glazing the Ezio line, instead put one of the most hated parts into the first 3 place. Funniest thing is that it's fully understandable. Unity, Origins, Odyssey are the best episodes for the huge content that they offer and I enjoyed them the most if I have to be honest.
As much as I hated valhalla, it is the most I have played out of all Ac games because of the world building of Norway and England, oh the times I have lost myself just exploring!
They are so bloated and empty at the same time. Same goes for Odyssey. So disappointed with those 2 games.
valhalla world very good?
I’m so happy people are finally realizing how good Unity is, a lot of people hated on it just because of the botched launch, but they never realized how much Ubisoft updated and improved it.
For me, odyssey easily has the top spot. I don't care about the controversy regarding if it's actually an ac game and stuff, i just love it. Playing this game made me fall in love with ancient greece. It's easiky one of my favourite ac games and a much better made game than valhalla. Can't really explain it, but there's something about odyssey that makes me wanna play it over and over again. I love it's vibe.
I actually think every AC game has had solid settings in terms of time period and location... The historical figures are another story however, and the characters especially in more recent games' side stories act badly out of place for their time periods. The modern/meta humor in Valhalla was easily the worst part of the game.
I always found Victorian British history fascinating and interesting, which is why AC Syndicate appealed to me with its setting
That, and I love gothic fiction too
AC Revelations made a mistake with its setting. It should have been Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, which was a setting teased in Assassin's Creed 2
Top-tier:
1. AC 2 (Pretty much the main reason AC 2 is my favorite game in the series)
2. AC Origins (Straight up pretty)
3. AC Syndicate (I would say the most alive open world in the series)
4. AC 4 Black Flag (Despite having small cities the Caribbean is stunning and fun the sail in)
5. AC Odyssey (Lots of landmarks and places to explore like the inside of volcanoes)
6. AC Unity (Probably the second most alive open world in the series)
Mid-tier:
7. AC Brotherhood (Lots of landmarks with the Italian feeling though step back with having only one city with a lot of it being countryside)
8. AC 3 (Frontier is pretty with fun tree parkouring and the cities feel like American colonies)
9. AC 1 (Multiple cities with different atmospheres and designs for the rich, middle, and poor classes)
10. AC Revelations (Nice blend of AC 1 settings with the Ezio Trilogy but not as much variety on the buildings and less landmarks)
Low-tier:
11. AC Rogue (North Atlantic is pretty but New York feels like AC 3 mixed in with Black Flag)
12. AC Valhalla (Lots to explore with an autumn feeling to England but most of the areas are in open fields and I prefer being in cities)
Black Flag could be above or below both Odyssey and Unity anytime and Unity and Odyssey could swap places with each other and the same goes with AC 1 with AC 3 and Valhalla with Rogue.
I haven't played Mirage yet but I'm thinking it may be either in the top tier or the mid tier.
I really enjoyed ac valhala it was so good
AC1 should be higher. The cities are quite distinct, in my opinion, I'm quite confident I could guess them based on a random picture in black and white(no colour filter to help). Acre even has a visual and functional aspect found nowhere else in the series.
AC1 is always dragged through the dirt lol
I hope Ubisoft makes AC set in Indonesia, because there is so much history there
Rogue is much better if you consider the time and budget constraints, but if we're ranking without considering that then it's not the best, true
My comfort game is easily AC2!
It’s my favorite game of all time!
I could play it 4 times a year, but I only play it once every 2-3 years!
(But I do hop on and explore Italy often!)
Odessey undoubtedly has one of the most lively worlds period. It actually feels like Greece and it’s beautiful. The npcs are actually doing everyday things, having conversations and other things.
my personal favorites are syndicate, unity and black flag
but nice list
3 hour gang:
Ubisoft has A LOT of problems, but I have always really enjoyed all the game worlds they've made
Yh perfect list but all settings are really unique and crafted perfectly
when people ask me what is my favorite ac setting I say all of them
Worth nothing that Notre Dame in Unity was also partly used as a reference to the reconstruction of notre dame after the fire a few years ago
Nope, just an oft-repeated myth. Ubisoft offered help but it was never taken up on, simply because the real records are much more detailed than Ubisoft's.
Just finished AC black flag a few days back and I must say it's incredible... Probably the best AC game to date.
Have you played all of them?
Not all ... But every major AC title yes
Greece is my favorite ancient civilization, so I doubt any AC setting will ever top it for me personally
I believe they used AC Unity for the reconstruction of the Norte Dame after it caught on fire
I think the first AC still looks very good today.
Odyssey should gains extra points for its historical accuracy, altought the scaling isn't right and the landscape doesn't look like that irl, the acropolis looks exactly like it should, i've seen it and both the Parthenon and the Erectheion are extremely accurate to how they look irl, others sites like Delphi, Korinth and Olympia are also so well designed it shows historians worked on this
1. Odyssey
2. Syndicate
3. Unity.
My top 3, with Renaissance Italy and Ptolemaic Egypt right below.
Valhalla is my favourite, so peaceful and stunning, ive just started Druid Ireland DLC.
13:vallahala
12:rouge
11:brotherhood
10:revelations
9:assassins creed 1
8:assassins creed 3
7:mirage
6:assassins creed 2
5:black flag (my favorite)
4:syndicate
FINALL 3
3:odyssey
2:origins
And last but not least
1:unity
Hope this helped SUBSCRIBE
Odyessy and Origins are two of the most favorite settings I have. I dislike the fact that Valhalla let's you explore abandoned Roman cities yet we NEVER got a game in Ancient Rome.
Paris and Syndicate and Baghdad are top tier cities. That there is no doubt about. Paris will hold a place though.
Only thing I actually appreciate about Rogue is the amazing performance on my doo doo laptop
Went back to Valhalla and my god is it perfect. I wish the story was darker and more about the berserkers and rituals like the northman but still a classic I think it's better then any other modern ac game.
I wish they would integrade more politic conflict about templar and assassin trought french revolution. I was a bit disapoint, specialy because it could be so much deeper than just what it is.
My top 3 are:
3. Mirage - Baghdad
2. Odyssey - Ancient Greece
1. Origins - Ancient Egypt
31:43 and sure enough, I think they’re using Unitys Notre Dame as a blueprint to rebuild the cathedral irl
Nope, that's a myth.
To be honest the RPG trilogy, as beautiful as they were, really left a lot to be desired with settlements. AC Mirage actually seems to scale and gives the feel of Baghdad at the time. The Cities in the trilogy were laghable. There was one in Odessy that was litterally a big stone wall protecting like two dozen citizens lol. Literally small towns with the infrastructure of big cities at the time. Almost like Bethesda but not as bad
Im wondering
How would an ac game set in australia during the taking of land
Would it just me 3?
Or different in more way than Australia
Brotherhood's Rome might not be top of the list as a game world, but goddamn I would rank it #1 for music everytime
Echoes of the Roman Ruins is literally peak
I just bought an Odyssey, then found your video
The fiest Assassins creed game i ever played was Assassins creed 2 (yes before 1) but broo. It. For that time. Was amazingggggg. Life changing. One thing i see in the 2nd game thats not in any is the pistol. Ezio had that pistol. None of the others do that and i wonder if its because Leonardo Da Vinci hid his work or something?
It is amazing the reputation 180 Unity has had the past few years. Would have been unthinkable in 2014.
It's people seeing it in UA-cam videos rather than playing it for themselves. It's undeniably a gorgeous game.
Personally I think Valhallas map is decent. It isn't bad... I mean, it also isn't really all too special and the story... Well I lost track after making an allieance with London. But all in all, I think the map is appealing in it's own way.
Greece in Odyssey ofc is a lot, and I mean a very lot, more engaging and, well, diverse, but I like that Valhalla has less side content... Like, I am replaying Odyssey's 100% rn, and I wish I could think "Oh, cool, I get to explore Laconia now!" but my thoughts just go to "Ah shit, here we go again." Like, I haven't even started the story, I only just finished the mission on Andros and other than that just explored, doing side content, and I am already at lvl 40 or so, having only finished about one third of the entire map.
Don'tget me wrong, I love Odyssey, I love the map, I am a sucker for ancient Greek history, and I am pretty biased on Odyssey because of it, but the side content is just overwhelming imo.
And, but this is a common issue with open-world games, I personally thought Black Flag's map was pretty lackluster. I mean, yes, the golden age of piracy is an intruiging setting (even though it's not really my cup of tea) and the cities and map in general, can be quite beautiful, but frankly, the islands just seem very repetitive at times, similarly to Odysseys military camps... and if I have to get another uncharted chest or animus fragment for the 100%, I'll throw a tantrum.
Rereading my comment I just see how much I dislike repetitive side content. Collecting chests, raiding camps that all look the same, etc. get away with that.
But that's sadly a problem with Ubisoft games in general. I love AC and Far Cry. I love all their maps and the stories, but they somehow fuck it up by making me collect 466 chests (I'm looking at you, Far Cry 6).
Honestly, I think GTA 5 made it best with the side content imo. It just feels natural there. You just don't run around and collect random chests, because why not, but you actually talk with people and do stuff that you could actually be doing irl (Like, not that you actually should, but you know what I mean, it seems natural.)
I’ve referred to valhallas world as being joyless and at points downright tedious in the past
Imagine it Unity but with the NPC Variety of Valhalla and Mirage
The world in Odyssey is Truly Great the islands the cultures IDK. Maybe its cause i love Classical and ancient Greece
Egypt Baghdad and Constantinople are My favourites
My top 3 settings are
1. Black flag
2. Origins
3. Ac 2/brotherhood
Yeah
My ranking (I have not played any games after Origins, so I cannot rank them):
11. Brotherhood
10. Rogue
9. Liberation
8. Revelations
7. 3
6. 1
5. Origins
4. 2
3. Syndicate
2. Unity
1. Black Flag
I put Origins so far back because I do not really like the non-urban areas. I also disliked the RPG elements added to Origins which is another reason why it is lower (and I know that this is a gameplay element rather than the map, but a map will be created for the game's genre, and I dislike how most RPG maps are made). I also felt like a lot of the map began to feel the same. 1 is high because of Damascus.
I disagree with Black flag being an AC game, he only joins the Brotherhood at the ending. So he's just a pirate.
no matter how bad the stealth, parkour or story is you can´t put valhalla so low on the world, it´s just stunning visually and there are many sidemissions to interact with.
Battle Born.
The three children who want to be just like Kjotve The Cruel
i ❤ valhalla
My personal Top 7 ranking:-
7. AC III
6. AC ROGUE
5. AC UNITY
4. AC BLACK FLAG 🔥
3. AC SYNDICATE
2. AC ORIGINS
1. AC ODYSSEY ❤️
I know this isn’t a popular opinion but black flag is my least favorite game and map. I skipped it on release because the pirate esthetic didn’t appeal to me. But then hearing everyone raving about it I came back to it and played it after origins and I really don’t like it at all. I did complete 100% it as well so I did spend a fair amount of time with it. Am I the only one that doesn’t like black flag at all?
I actually didn’t like it bc of the protagonist. Edward, to me, is so damn unlikable and his greed and selfishness gets everyone who even sort of looked out for him killed or to leave him. He learns the errors of his ways in the late game but by then what does it matter?
Altair had a similar character arc but he was publically humiliated and had to claw his way to redemption
Edward starts off a scoundrel and stays a scoundrel until everyone dies/leaves him and suddenly hes like “maybe being an asshole isnt good?”
Brotherhood my favourite
how is your hood up while your standing in syndicate?
Hood up mod on nexusmods
@@TheHiddenOne690 too bad i dont Got syndicate on pc then😭😂
@@Manhunt2299i think there’s also a glitch where if you crouch while standing on a boat travelling out of bounds, you get respawned with your hood up
Is it just me or do fully upgraded armors in Valhalla completely break immersion. You’re in this “foresty” mostly impoverished world flaunting your gold cloak and chest plate while everyone else is wearing rags or cloaks for clothing. I know you can fix the issue with transmogrification, but it still just hinders immersion for me (not to mention the iron man suit they added).
Unity is probably the best ac ever which is funny considering it’s reputation and launch
Odyssey was most beautiful setting for sure and there was plenty to do in it. Valhalla felt empty
Worst setting is
When i got grounded for playing ac syndicste when i was just walking in alleyway and my mom noticed a prostitute but i never did noticed it nor now till yesterday when i played it again
Now I know why she said this game got some bad things
A 15 year old cannot see those
