Might be difficult to work on, however, my son and I drove from Perth to Melbourne, 3500km for $210 Australian dollars. Best car ever.
If you remove the wipers and scuttle panel which is 2 nuts for the wipers and 4 bolts holding on the scuttle panel it makes the diesel filter access so much easier and only takes around 10m to do.
I serviced one of these today, I agree what a bloody nightmare!!!
These aren't too bad. To prime/bleed them you bleed the injector feed first (front connector as in this video). Keep sucking until fuel comes through with no bubbles in the fuel, when this is done reconnect it. There's a missing stage in this video. The next (most important part) which people fail to do and land themselves in a mess with flattening their battery etc by trying to start is that you must bleed the return too. This is the pipe that sits on top of the metal fuel filter cover. Bleed this until you have no air bubbles, you need to pull a good amount of fuel through the system here to get all the air out of the fuel. If you think you've bled and it still doesn't start, do NOT be tempted to remove the injector feed pipe again or you'll have to start from scratch. Re bleed the return pipe again, once you get all the air out and reconnected it'll fire up. When fired up just let it idle for a while, maybe 5 mins or so.
Cant believe im gonna give a mechanic a tip, before the oil drain bolt if full undone tie a piece of wire around it so it doesnt fall into your pan
Also to point out, brake fluid doesn't evaporate, so if you are needing to top it up that lost fluid must have gone somewhere, be worth checking around the pistons on the calipers, this is how i noticed my rear cylinder was leaking on my motorbike
As brake pads wear the pistons have to travel farther out and your brake fluid level will drop accordingly...just say'n
Got a 2003 fusion not much different from that. More space behind the air cleaner and they provide a rubber bulb to pump the deisel when you change the filter. So newer means more corner cutting not to mention dpf, etc? Mine is not an exciting car but my wallet loves the cheap motoring! Had it since 2013 and its turned out to be a very cheap, reliable, low running costs car.
Upto the diesel filter I was thinking I'd manage it but I'd rather leave it to a mechanic, good review

Hi mate. I have a xsara Picasso with the 1.6 hdi version of this engine. a dealer tech recommended to remove oil filter whilst sump plug open as filter housing will drain through a bit more oil
+Rob Taylor hi mate it's hard to say but I've tried it both ways and haven't really seen any different as long as you get the engine nice and warm so the oil is thin you shouldn't have a problem but you'll never get all the oil out of an engine
I found I get a bit more out as it took more oil to refill to Max level than the first time I did an oil change. Why the manufacturers are doing away with the old spin on off cartridges I'll never know. Why do you say these engines are crap? I had a Picasso with the 2 litre hdi and although never had a problem, and much easier to service!, the 1.6 seems smoother and better on juice. Just reaching 100 thousand miles now. I know previously its had a new turbo before warranty ran out but I am a bit ott as I change oil every 4k
+Rob Taylor have had a lot of experience with these engines but you are doing the right thing with changing the oil the problem is most people don't do this they do not service it til 2 of 3 years that's the main problem with most engines but you are one of few that is doing it right

You no the pipe that comes from tank to the filter shale I pull fuel up to there first or just pull it through the front one going to injectors
You need to make sure the diesel filter is full and a diesel is up to the diesel filter sometimes you might have to fill the diesel filter a couple of times for it will start

had problem starting the ford i thing the desal filter is derty the out let that looks at you the one you put your pump on if i disconect that and turn the engine over should fuel come out of it
Would it not be easier sucking the oil out using a pump
Thanks for quick reply the reason I asked as just brought the 1.4 dci Ford Fiesta mk7 2010 reg in morning go to start glow light goes out after 2 seconds turn the key and it starts to turn over then just stops try three times then it starts also just gone up the road and engine went in limp mod for 15 seconds then it picked up any idea what these two problems could be apriciat your help thanks
Hi mate you're going to have to get this diagnosed this might not be your heater plug that could be an injector problem no point just changing parts unless you have to

Can I use a bulb with tube fitted each side to bleed it and if I left the out let pipe disconnect and turned engine over should diesel start coming out of filter or not
Hi you no the top cover on the fuel filter the car I brought that I am putting new filter in dose it matter if it don’t have one on it the bolt that you were tacking out on the side dose that hold the filter
Yes mate it's important to have that bolt on that holds the filter it stops it moving around and breaking the pipes
Got the syringe was stiff to open so it wouldn't work now works pulled nice clean desal through the pipe from tank then pulled through the one at front car still won't start I put the syringe on the male end pipe the one over the top of filter am I serpose to be able to pull fuel out of that to clear any air bubbles or not

Hi today I set out to change glow plugs using your vid as I have the same car I beleave comes up as 1.4 tdci 2010 reg I had a hard time trying to get the air box out it worked out that there were cables clipped to the back of it managed to free them and had to get someone to pull up on apron then I got it out I got one glow plug out and recited a new one botch the second one as you look at engine coming from right side can you tell me do I have to remove any thing else to take out other three as last one on left side seem hard to get to any help would be great thanks again
Hi mate it can be awkward try heating up your engine by starting it this can sometimes make them easier to get out there just awkward take your time screw them out through them in through them out screw them in a little bit at the time keep going that way eventually they should come out
hi mate, hope your doing good. just have a quick question and want to ask if its okay to mix oil viscosity. e.g. if your car has 5w40 inside and needs a top but you only have 10w30 with same spec, would it be okay to top it up with that?
hi mate if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere and that's the only oil you can get then yes it's better than nothing but as soon as you get back home I will change it straight away personally I would not mix oil hope this helps thanks

What a balls of an engine to work on
I've worked on worse, also French, the Vauxhall Vivaro 2.0 M9R engine. To change the starter motor you have to take the front of the car off. Mr Bodgit made hard work of getting that fuel filter out, it's quite straight forward to remove the air cleaner assembly. By leaving it in there, the job was 10 times harder.

@@bodgitandleggitgarage ... understatement, i still have a pack i gave up trying to put in, I dont think ive ever been so frustrated in my life, choosing to do this one winters day was a bad idea and my knuckles still bear the scars of this failed endeavor. Was there for hours unwilling to give up, until I did!

How often do I have to change fuel filter my car had a service just befor I brought it how would I no wether they changed it
Personally I change everything every 5000 miles preventive maintenance is the key
@@bodgitandleggitgarage I have an issue car once started the rpm counter some times stays at 2000rom when I turn engine of could this be the glow plugs as it takes a long time to start when cold any advice would help thanks
@@chatchatty2155 hi mate it sounds like you've got a couple of different issues I have done videos on how to test heater plugs that are very easy to test but you might have other issues with your engine you'll have to look into your live data and monitor things like temperature sensors O2 sensors iac valve the list goes on but check them see things first

@@chatchatty2155 you need to find out exactly if it that is no problem first then if it is you have to take the fuel tank down and clean it this is a very big job and can cause a lot of problems with breaking bolts

hi ive just got a 2003 ford fiesta with the same 1.4 its dune 240.000 yes that high but it runs nice the oil what you say put in it would it make any difference just use cheap oil thanks
hi mate I would recommend 10 40 Ford spec as it's a bit thicker than normal as your engine would have wear with being that mileage hope this helps thanks for watching don't forget get your hands dirty

Ive just bought a 2011 1.4 tdci and when accelerating it sort of jerks and also when letting off the accelerator.... So Im thinking the fuel filter is blocked.
I want to give the car a good service and change all filters and see if this makes a difference.

Manc780, I've been having the same problem with my 07 1.4 TDCi, has the fuel filter change made any difference? I've just ordered one to fit tomorrow so hopefully that'll fix it, it's only minor at the moment so hasn't happened much at all. Cheers
***** Hi mate, Tbh I havent done it yet. I genuinely havent had the time or cash to do it. I think it had been stood for a long time before I bought it and I do think the filter is partially blocked, However with driving it it hasnt been doing it as bad.... Maybe it has cleared it slightly !
Dont get me wrong it still jerks occasionally the same as before and I really do need to give it a big service or at the very least change the fuel filter.
Yours sounds like it could be the same problem.

Hi mate, just an update on the filter change, I've sorted it all today and car runs totally different, it's much more responsive and the power seems more there, can't imagine how much crap must have been stuck inside that filter hah!! Haven't experienced the said problem since, hopefully it stays that way. You can really feel the difference in pull. Changing it wasn't too difficult as I've got an 07 so it's more open under the bonnet so I had a bit more room to play with, hopefully yours wont be such a problem either. Let us know how it goes.

hi mate unfortunately I cannot as it depends where you live how hot or cold your climate is there's too many variables for me to try and guess what exactly oil You Need your best bet is to look in your owner's manual or go to your local Motor Factors with the details of your car and they will be able to help you I don't want to tell you the wrong oil and for you to have problems with your car

De Andre Yedlin hi mate is the car running very rough and can you smell fuel coming out of the back
there is no fuel smell, I don't know if its rough or not, seems smooth. and if the car is parked upwards on a slope, it is hard to start as well. when started, there will be a lot of black smoke for 1-2 seconds. then its back to normal.
De Andre Yedlin you might have an O2 sensor lambda sensor problem you have some of the symptoms but obviously hard for me to say and cannot see the car is there any way you can get me some trouble codes
hi mate , recently bought a 1.4 tdci 2002 147 k on clock just changed oil filter oil air filter . when I purchased car it seemed and little down on power . you can feel turbo pulling don't get me wrong but feels like there should be a bit more pull. and on the odd occasion it would drive with a bit more pull but not very offten. when idling turbo revs up to 6000 . but when in gear and on the move turbo pulls until 3000 revs and there's a change in engine noise and doesn't feel as if turbo pulling much but will keep rising . any ideas ? fuel filter next to change. I unplugged maf sensor made no difference . car doesn't blow any smoke what so ever black or white. not sure on egr being problem have you any thoughts suggestions before I plough money in to the parts. I am a keen home mechanic and do a lot myself . so always get my hands dirty ha . living in the sunny southeast of wexford where are you based. look forward to hearing back cheers 👍
Alex Gilliland hi mate the quickest and easiest thing to try first injector cleaner through the diesel or separately clean the injectors and the pump off a little tank I've done videos on how to do this very simple I would try that before anything else unless you have an engine light on and it is given you some direction on where to go
