Hi Angie, I really enjoy what people feel about their reading year. I agree with your thoughts about the Lisa Jewell book. I thought the things the characters did were absolutely abhorrent. You just couldn't root for anyone. There was never a mention at the end if the podcaster even missed her husband after his death. Her life just carried on. I also felt meh about No One Can Know and didn't get Murder Road because no one liked it. Thank you so much for sharing all your reviews this year. Your videos are fun and very informative. Have lovely holidays! Elizabeth
I really appreciate you sharing your honest opinions, Angie, as I think we have very similar tastes. Those things you mentioned would have bothered me, too. Happy Holidays to you! ☕️
So many booktubers have said they didn’t like The Ashes and the Star Cursed King. I read the first book and loved it UNTIL the ending. I hated the ending. I feel like no one has said that about the first book. I decided not to read the 2nd because I felt the ending from the first was setting it up for a disappointing read. And because I have yet to find someone say they enjoyed it. 😂
I haven’t read any of these. I struggle with DNF’ing books, it makes me feel unaccomplished. 😂 But fortunately, I’m so careful with picking that it doesn’t happen very often.
I was so so disappointed by the Simone St James book, Murder Road. I have been a huge fan of her books but, when I finished it, I thought “well, that was a waste of time”. Nothing was solved really. It was just weird.
I think The Familiar was my biggest disappointment of 2024. I love, LOVE Ninth House and Hell Bent so I was excited to read another adult book by her and I love historical fiction and historical fantasy so this seemed a perfect fit for me. I predicted it would be a 5-star read for me. But I did not like it. I could have entirely gone without the competition (which is a huge part of the book) as it felt confusing, and somehow high stakes and boring at the same time. I read part of it and listened to part of it (hoping one would work for me) and was also really disappointed in Lauren Fortgang’s narration (and I have loved other books she’s done). I wanted Spanish accents or something.
🫖 I felt the same way about The Tempest of Tea. The heist had my head spinning. Happy holidays!! 🌲

I agree about DNF-ing. What I instead do is just skim the rest. 😬 I WILL DNF, but is has to really be bad for me to do it.
From the books presented by you,the only one I 've read îs None of this îs true" by Lisa Jewell. I really liked it
The Familiar made my list too, I was so sad about it!

I liked “none of this is true” but I listened to it on audio and I think that really helped

ashes of a star crossed king was terrible lol
I loved such sharp teeth and did not like cackle. Tempest of tea has become forgettable to me and i probably won't continue with the series either.
☕
I didn’t like None of This is True either!!!! I think you and I are the only ones though.
