HUGE Shoutout to ‪@harleydavidson‬ for sending the Low Rider ST out for a review. Stay tuned for more on the ST!
Harley Davidson claims the Low Rider ST is a sport touring bike, but how well can a 720LBS bike really handle?

Actually one of my favorite parts of this bike is the simplicity in the controls and fairing. I really love the cockpit of this motorcycle, I think it’s one of the most attractive looking cockpits out today with the small gauges in the handlebar clamp, the air openings in the fairing, and the single headlight. I am not even into Harley’s, and I find the low rider ST very cool.

Going to disagree somewhat. I don't need an iPad but I can't stand that tiny gauge. It looks like the same one from the Street Bob I test rode and I couldn't hardly see a damn thing on it a lot of times. The least they could have done was add the gauge from the standard LRS, but it would have been much better if they'd added the TFT from the Sportster S.

Wonder how you would compare the S to the ST. I'm not a huge fan of the whole faring thing, and with what's on the S, it LOOKS more like a classic muscle cruiser, but thats just personal opinion and aesthetics.

I love technology, but these small digital displays just don’t cut it. I agree with you, give me two gauges. A quick glance and I see what I need. With the digital dash, I have to look longer to see what I need to see. Things happen fast on two wheels, I don’t need to slow that process down. HD does need to do a better job with tech. Nice bike though.

I think muscle cruiser is a more fitting term for this bike. The V-rod or a Rocket 3 would probably be more appropriate than comparing it to K bikes and such. At that price point the Rocket 3 is serious competition and it's absolutely gorgeous but it all boils down to use case. On a cross country trip I agree there are few nicer things to be on than a good Hog.

Honestly I think HD sorely whiffed when they discontinued the Sport Glide. It had the forward controls and the proper telemetry display, but only had the 107. If they would've stuffed that 117 in that bike, it would be the perfect bike for the soft tail sporty touring class. I have the 2021 Sport Glide and I completely love that machine! I have put over 6000 miles on mine in less than a year & a half!!! I ride it any chance I can make an excuse to. It is very confidence inspiring going into corners. My only complaint with it would be the sound, but that is getting fixed with a stage 1 kit this spring. I also upgraded the windscreen (or lack thereof) and added a mustache highway bar (highly recommend). Great review Spite!!!

I turn 62 next month and buying a new bike. I have owned 4 Harleys my last I sold 17 years ago which was a StreetGlide with the 88 engine. I did as stage 4 because I love torque but was never happy with outcome of the build. The thought of a 117 on a bike that is 150 lbs lighter is already making me smile. Plus at my age weight of a bike is important so the lighter the better. I was even considering the New Indian Scout 101 because that bike weighs 572 lbs. But then I saw the Sport Chief with bigger engine so It's now down to the Indian Chief or the Low Rider. I want to giggle when I twist the throttle. Only thing I would change on the Harley are the pipes. I think the fairing is tall enough for someone my height. Thanks again for a great video!!! Safe travels my friend. EDIT....I was wrong, this bike is only 100 lbs less than StreetGlide. Only thing I would miss is having music but just learned that new helmets allow you to Bluetooth music into helmet even though I also love the sound of nice pipes and open road. Do not need music but it was nice to have on longer rides. And you nailed it. I am one of those old farts that want to go fast on the straights and slow on the corners. I am stoked no pun intended.

Love your comments regarding sport bike riders worrying about leaning the bike over when cornering. As someone who has ridden Harley’s for years as well as sport bikes, they need not worry. After having done a number of track days on my HD XR1200, your perception of how far you are leaning over to your actual lean angle is deceiving. Last track day I thought I had the bike really cranked over, close to scrapping my knee; until I saw the pictures. I was only about 1/2 as far as I thought.

I built the state park you were parked in front of in beginning of video. I couldn't tell what direction you were going but the highway that goes from wimberley to Bee cave I hit a deer at 60 MPH on a 1984 Honda XL 600 dual sport at 6:00 in the morning heading south to wimberley from lake Travis. I didn't come off the bike but my clutch cable was ripped off the casing, I limped the bike to work where nobody believed me because they said most of their friends that hit deers don't make it. They didn't believe me until they saw all the deer hair on my shocks 😲. Thanks again!!!!

I certainly think You hit the nail on the head with Your feelings about it.
My #1 beef with it and the main reason I don't own one (Yet..), is the price tag. I honestly feel like the bags are too small, and as You pointed out the fairing is a bit lacking for Harley to be asking FIVE GRAND over the price of the Lowrider S...
I'm just gonna wait for a pampered one to show up on the used market.

I fully agree about having the indicator switch in one piece on the left. Frees up your throttle hand, in particular on quick turns close together when on / off throttle is important.
Also a small curled up lip moulded into fairing will push that wind over your head.
I had a small windshield with that set up on a 1981 xs 1100 RH Yamaha with a small bikini fairing all those decades ago and worked excellent. Not bagging this bike , I ride Harleys now. Just saying.

Spite, I'm 6ft at 300 pds . I ride a 2008 Softail Custom, and I had to put 2 inch over extension forward controls with floor boards to feel comfortable. Baby apes gone it felt wobbly, so to say . Put a 12 inch riser with 12 inch drag bar being one piece without no pullback and a gunfighter Saddleman seat to feel comfortable . Plus, I got a Saddleman Explorer seat it's a gel seat with the memory foam for my wife, so her kitty cat wouldn't get sore . It's very comfortable, but I can't feel the road response . The things we do for our ole ladies . My bike obviously is a 96-inch with Vance&Hines FP3 Bluetooth tuner and pipes . That FP3 tuner is a blast to self tune your bike . It was still running rich, so I called Vance&Hines, and they fine-tuned it from California, and I live in Connecticut . They even said good job filling all the boxes . Every gear just red lined it . When is enough enough for these cruisers . Harley's are built around torque, not horsepower . The bike I bought mileage was 21k just about showroom condition for 7k . Now, my stance on these Harley Davidson can really suck crap . There is no Harley Davidson worth over 20k. Sorry for those who truly just pissed their money away . And for what I even dragged raced, a 107 cube motor couldn't pass him, but he wasn't going nowhere himself pretty much almost neck and neck . So are Harley's great bikes, yes ! But are they great bikes for 20k plus HELL NO ! Sorry, the truth is the truth . And I'm a Harley fan boy to the max . Even the Gold Wing isn't worth it as well . And the G.W. is a much better tourer than any Harley Davidson ever will be .

Great review. Just bought Fast Johnnie version of this bike. It is pricey, but the fun factor is through the roof and I’ve had a few fun bikes (KTM Super Adv R, Rocket Roadster, SG Special…). None came close to matching this bike’s handling, power and comfort (6’6” with forward controls and tall boy seat). I dig the stripped down cockpit but understandably it’s not for everyone. The 117 in this bike is no joke. Gotta test ride one to “get it”.

Dang, I am really not the target demographic for Harley. I don't see, why I should get this over a Rebel CMX1100T, which costs half. ^^'
PS: Even at the same price, I would take the Rebel.

Love your review would like to see you test a rocket 3 in the near future.

Great review with interesting point of view. I would add that harley's are driven on torque rather than HP which I think was the struggling to put into words at the early part of the review and then later as you discovered when you hit the rev limiter. Also, I would probably go with the regular Low Rider S for the 117 motor and use as a daily driver and occasional all day rides. For touring and frequent all day rides I'd go with a Street or Road Glide. More tech, more comfort and storage. For high speed hooning I'd just go with a sport bike. If you

I'm sure the temptation is real to give anyone a glowing review who's willing to lend out their brand new bike for a couple weeks, but we the people really seek and appreciate truth tellers! Overall sweet bike though, way out of my price range, but it would be one I'd look at pretty hard if I was looking at Harleys.

Love the latest video. I'm amazed that sounds like Harley actually delivered a bike with a decent set of tires on it that don't need swapping for once. You sort of answered this when alluding to the big Triumph but how does this stack up against the rocket 3 with luggage or a Ducati XDiavel with luggage?

    • @JelloThatsMellow
      @JelloThatsMellow Рік тому +1

The luggage on the Harley is very small. No helmet, enough for a short weekend, but easy to lane split with.
I don't believe the other two have oem luggage, so you can pick whatever you want but it won't be as aesthetically pleasing (color matched panels, etc).

I'm 5'8 with a 31" inseam and I bought an El Diablo. I do feel cramped in the legs sometimes, but other times I like the leg ergos (leaning a little forward and being a hooligan). I'm still getting used to it (my other bike is a 1997 softail custom with forwards).
But I noticed, with the saddle bags, you also have a sissybar on there. Mind going over that? Is that the HD hold fast sissybar? I can't get a good read as to whether the hold fast mounts can be combined with the bag mounts (replace spacer on bag mount with the mount piece for sissybar). Some say you can, some say you can't. Some claim to have done so on Sport Glides but... ???

Agree with you on the "gunship" gray color, looks like they just clear coated the primer, and somehow that's extra? Though I saw Road Glide Special in it where the owner added some orange accents that really elevated it - stitching in the seat, spark plug wires, custom black/orange pinstriping on the fairing, tank and bags. Harley isn't the only vehicle manufacturer that hasn't got the note that the "gray fad" is over in design.
