- Today’s video is about activities that are easy for you to do with your pre-schoolers at home. There are amazing Montessori activities, that however, require more specific tools or time on your side to prepare for your child - these are great, however, I want to show you some thing you could do with your little once that are easy.
There are 4 main areas of the Montessori curriculum are, Practical Life or Everyday Living Skills, Sensorial or learning through the senses, Language and Mathematics. The fifth curriculum area is Culture.
Sensorial activities: In the Montessori approach to education, it is understood that children build their understanding of the world through sensory experience. Therefore it is important that children are provided with every opportunity to develop and educate their senses.
The purpose and aim of Sensorial work is for the child to acquire clear, conscious, information and to be able to then make classifications in his environment. Montessori believed that sensorial experiences began at birth. Through his senses, the child studies his environment. Through this study, the child then begins to understand his environment. The child, to Montessori, is a “sensorial explorer”.
Practical Life - Montessori observed that children wanted to help in the upkeep of their own environment. She then developed practical life activities. This can be activities that adults do every day that children see and may want to imitate. It can be as simple as sweeping, mopping and dusting, or as complex as washing dishes, or clothes. You don’t have to have a special broom to allow your child to engage into practical life activities - Children like to clean up.
Hope you'll enjoy these simple Montessori inspired activities.

Wow a butter knife! And hear I am thinking he needs a kids knife set. He loves to cut his wooden fruits and vegetables. We’ll have to start cutting real food with the butter knives

Hi Sassy, will do :) Thanks for watching and commenting:)
I love seeing children learning like this
It is lovely, isn't it, and enjoyable.
Mika is adorable! Love the way he put on his jacket :) Thanks for making this video and sharing the ideas. I would love to know how you potty trained Mika or how you are going to if you haven't. Thanks again!
Hi Catherine, as much as I push him to be independent, I haven't yet toilet train him 😂. I decided not to do it this summer (and in general I really take my time with this) as we travelled a lot and I wanted to make sure he is free to pee/poo wherever we are without holding it. Then he started nursery in September and I wanted him to deal with one thing less. We left it for Christmas and to all fairness we tried, but didn't go well - he is sabotaging all our efforts and he simply refused to use the toilet. May be if we have tried earlier on, it would have been easier - now he doesn't want, he refuses and he holds his poo (or pees on himself). We decided to give him some more time and do it when he is ready. He always tell us before he does the job that he is going to do it, but he refused to do it anywhere but the nappy. My friends already potty-trained and it took them less than a week at that age, but their kids didn't mind that much - Mika is super stubborn about it for a strange reason. I, somehow, feel better myself about using still nappies as we travel so much and I'm worried he will learn to hold a lot and not use public toilets. Eventually, of course, he will learn - we are giving him until the spring holiday and will train him them, but I wait for signal from him. When you decide, you need to be completely convinced that you want to, as they feel the energy (I'm sure Mika feels that I'm not convinced myself and he is reflecting my state).
Fab Video. Such a cutie too. xxx
Thanks a lot.. I am a new mum and much appreciative of your materials. Mika is adorable too....esp when cutting food ;)
Thank you!!
Nice work
Thank you so much for this ideas and tip. ✨
Thanks Saane!
wooooow amazing
i'll try it with my baby girl
Great, Mahera! Start her early:) thank you for watching
Subscribed. Thank you. I enjoyed the video. I love the educational, fun, simple and real life activities that don't require to buy expensive materials!:) Children eventually get bored with everything. It's OK for a child to be bored at times, they can come up with their own little games and be creative. A+ for these needed activities. I hope you can make more videos like this one, although I see it is a year old.
Oh, thank you so much for your comment and watching! I will do more videos on Montessori as now, I just got my Montessori Diploma 4 assessment and know it in much more depth than a year ago. What would you like to see most?
Smart Parent Stories, Congratulations! Any subject Montessori activities like math and language, or how you assess if you could that would be great. Thank you!
I agree with you, they do get bored, and we try to combat this with lot's of shelves, buckets, and different jobs, so they can come back to them easy enough. They learn to put one job away before taking another one out! Blessings!
Hi Ms.! Thank you so much for your Montesorri videos. I an learning a lot. I will be teaching in a Montesorri school on September and I am already preparing my self by watching and learning eveything about Montesorri style teaching. I am a preschool teacher of 8 yrs now and it’s my firs time to be a part of a Montesorri School. Your videos are really helpng me a lot.😊💓

Thank you so much, Stefely, for your nice comment! I'm glad it was useful. How old is your son?
He just turned two. I've been homeschooling him since he was born, I don't have any experience but thank God for the internet! haha. Thank you for your response :)
He is so cute
He is simply adorable! And I am so inspired by you and your incredible patience! I have a 19 month old and need ideas for things to do with him. Any suggestions? Thank you for posting this video. :)

Omg Mika is soo cute:) give him a big hug..thank you for the wonderful ideas. I never thought about it. I'll definitely try it.
I want to ask you if you toilet trained him already? If you did i need some tips pls:)
Hi Gul, nope - just answered someone else on that - let me copy/paste...
so here it is - as much as I push him to be independent, I haven't yet toilet train him 😂. I decided not to do it this summer (and in general I really take my time with this) as we travelled a lot and I wanted to make sure he is free to pee/poo wherever we are without holding it. Is there a particular view on discipline in this philosophy?
What's the name of the music?
Oh poor kiddo is so bored and sleepy.. :) maybe next time you can say the speaking section when he is asleep or something so that he doesn't get over tired or bored. And record shirt videos when he is actually doing activity and not too aware..it may compromise video quality but it will ensure he can do activities while enjoying them and not getting drifted
Thanks for the suggestion, Applayseify:) It's hard to film with kids and be present:) sometimes I do film while he is playing but he seems me and get distracted..😂
Nice, I am a Montessori Teacher, love new ideas! Come see my stories, Mika might enjoy, I use puppets sometimes! Great job new sub'r and bell! Like the bead pattern idea putting on the sticks.
when can i start introducing the montessori method to my child. i have a 10month old son. thank you! :)
Dear Melyndee, Montessori philosophy is about 'following the child'. You can be a 'Montessori' parent right from the beginning - following the child, responding to their current needs, observing and preserving concentration, creating favourable environment, encouraging independence from very early on, being a great role model (respecting the environment, keeping order, maintaining state, etc). If you are able to put shelves where your son can reach out for activities without your help, it will be great to support his independence.
Yes, we use the shelf and job bucket idea, to keep organized!
