Fantastic, a video on how to mount a drawer slide w/o any damn drawers!!!! Love your enthusiasm, hate the fact you missed the #1 thing I watched the video for...
@@HowYouCanMakeIt Sorry for the snarky comment. I didn't think anyone would actually read it and I was just venting... : ( You didn't show a drawer. I wanted to see how the slides were actually mounted to the drawer, but no drawer. Thanks for making the video. I know there's hard to make and appreciation is a lot of what you get out of them when you're all done.
Cool idea....but... let's assume all of the draws are the same size (height)... Why not then cut the scrap of wood to the height that you need between each slide. That way you can use your scrap of wood and drill the slides in from the bottom, up. No need to constantly cut the wood. Just place the same piece on the slide you just drilled below and set the next slide above it...rinse and repeat. Things do get trickier when the draws are at different heights, but I guess my interpretation would still apply.... unless every single draw is of a different height. Thanks for the video. I was actually watching some other stuff on cabinet making and found your video. Nice work.
Your idea could work too. Just need to measure the right height for each drawer even if their not the same height. Only issue is i think youll be needing an extra piece for the 1st bottom 1.
Hi from down under. I've been having a bugger of a time trying to measure the kitchen carcass up for the drawers. You make it seem so easy. Thank you. A short video focussing on the first part of fitting drawers. My drawers have a front plate of matching timber. Could you possibly make a video on how to complete the drawer. That is, assembly and fitting each drawer please. Good job!
if using self close slides then i suggest making a jig with a base that is 9 in wide and about 28 in long 3/4 plywood with and 3/4 in rise at the front end of the jig and 5/8 to make flush to faceframe when drawer is closed ,1 in wide partiion to seperate left from right sidethe slide should be cut 3/4 in shy of backof the cabinet (1 in if dadoed ) on 3/4 in plywood 4 in wide by depth of cabinet -3/4 in to 1 in with a 3/4 in scrap piece of plywood to fit the gap and level to the drawer slides will never pull out with this method due to it being braced by face and back of cabinet the slide should be level with the bottom of the plywood its being screwed to and the drawer is alreadey 3/8 to 1/2 in from bottom of face frame partition so the slide runner can be flush to the drawe's bottom and face
On the first ones I did the wood dust/swarf from drilling through the runner tended to clog up the ball bearings a bit, so now I use a centre punch to mark the holes, then remove the runner from the jig and drill the holes. Finally, brush away any wood dust and install the runners.
Some more details on how you calculate the length of boards, height of drawers and space between slides would give the viewer specific guidelines on how to apply this method to their project, I like the concept but the devil is in the details. Thanks
I was doing research for a video on draw slide , you did it that's the way to install doesn't matter about the exact height just being exact left and right and using a spacer.
@@HowYouCanMakeIt I mean to place the spacer over the newly installed rail as a guide for the next, though, this works only on drawers with equal height.
Nice & easy instruction. It would be of help if you could include how you lined up and fitted the draws to the sliders. Do you have a link to that video please?
Wow I use those exact drawer slides. That's a solid way to get them in accurately. For those comments asking how to fit the inner slides etc. Take the inner rail off the slide and screw to the side of the drawer. Leaving the inner rail about 2mm up from the bottom. For the outer rail, it will be 22mm from the bottom of the drawer to the holes for the screws. Marking for a full set of drawers is done by marking the gaps between the drawer faces along the height of the carcass, then 22mm above any drawer face line will leave the drawer above just scraping the one below it. So I add another 15mm or so. 22+15 = 37, round to 35 Mark 35mm above all the gaps between the drawers, measure from the inside of the bottom shelf up to each line and note the height of each, on the first pass. Run those lines up both sides and screw in all the drawer rails. If I'm doing several lockers the same height, this allows me to transfer those height measurements over to all the other units. Just knowing it's 22mm from the screw hole to the bottom of the drawer allows for fairly quick measuring and fitting.
Doing this will make you go back and forth to your saw station. The convenient way is layout your markings at the edge of the board and clamp it with a 12" T ruler, it will give you the same results! For repietitive installation I use a stick for markings.
The draw box is 1/2in on each side to account for the thickness of the draw slide so if the width of your draw space is 10in your draw box would need to be 9in wide
That depends on if you are doing inset drawers or overlay. I measure from the front. For the flush inset drawer I used 1/2 plywood, so I offset it .5in from the front. I hope that answers your question.

Sadly I can't put them on the edges and prefer the worktop to slide neatly without wobbling and rubbing the cabinets either side. It would only need to slide forward 200mm. I could make slide rails out of hardboard but these runners look robust. Appreciate your thoughts 🙂
@@HowYouCanMakeIt i think it would work but risky to put pressure on when overhanging the edge. There is a really good comment on the thread that explains it 😁
Nice tip to install drawer slides.. Or you can start from the bottom and install going up.. In that way you only cut one jig for equal height drawers.

Nice video. Short and to the point. It should help me.

22+15 = 37, round to 35
Mark 35mm above all the gaps between the drawers, measure from the inside of the bottom shelf up to each line and note the height of each, on the first pass.
