A 22 separate input USB audio interface for your DAW, 100 mm faders, nice outboard EQ, included digital effects, and good-sounding mic pres. So, after having this unit for a week now, I've come to like it while accepting its limitations. After a slight learning curve and a few hiccups getting it all set up correctly, for what I do at home it is almost perfect. Once you understand the Mode setting it makes life easy. The unit makes it easy to get everything hooked up and your levels set, while your DAW does the heavy lifting. In that regard it does a lot right. It's nice and convenient to have my gear and instruments hooked up to the Model 24, as routing inputs in the DAW is very easy. So, let's say Tascam decided to make a version 2 of this unit with everything on my wishlist included/fixed, and let's say the street price was $1,500.00. It would be worth every penny.
@@Arperture Pros and cons of both. For me, it would have been better to have dedicated Aux Returns. That way, you don't lose two channels if you needed them. I don't of course since it's just me at home, but it's just a wish list item. After a few emails to Tascam and a message board I've got the Model 24 all hooked up and all my gear patched in. I'm good to go. What would have been nice is if the manual would have been worth a shit. They could have done a better job explaining things.
Nice mix Mitch. It's good to hear what this thing is really able to do. Analog rather than emulation. What would be cool is if they took advantage of compact digital circuitry and put in a few more auxes that were purely digital for doing housekeeping stuff like monitors or mix minus etc.
I'm still trying to figure out how to use Pro Tools as just a playback so I can mix purely with the desk but great video and the desk was one of the best purchases I've made
great video! I just drove to Sweetwater from Canton OH last week and purchased the Model 24. We grabbed some lunch in the Downbeat Diner and I saw Mitch in there too, and it was like seeing a celebrity, LOL! The Sweetwater campus is awesome!
It does look like quite the versatile mixer. I've been considering a hardware mixer for recording and this looks like a serious consideration. Prog rock version of "Billie Jean"? I'd have guessed fusion. That's what it sounded like to me on first blush but then I'm a bit green on both fusion and prog as I'm more a straight ahead rock guy. I also love Michael Jackson's music and really, really dug this arrangement of this song. I liked the conversation that the keyboards and bass were having with the rest of the band. A ton of melodic content. Nicely done! I'd like to hear more of Billie Beru.
I just thought they were trying to avoid copyright strikes! Well-played version, but having just heard the 'Billie Jean' break-down last night with the original tracks it didn't hit me right. Love the mixer explanation though.
Recorder could be set in lower volume or to some effect, reduced amplitude, increase fuzz and static? Files of audio data could be scramble, truncate into many pieces that DAW couldn'tassembled back right? DAW could degrade sound quality of recorded data!?? Wires to recorder could be degraded with time, physical abuse per plug in and out of many many unforgetful times??

Thanks for this reveiew...great example of how to use this amazing mixer! One question, in the mixdown process, when assigning each track in protools to a separate output and then feeding back in to the model 24... how is the audio sent back to the model 24, via the usb cable? At this point, are you bouncing down everything on to tracks 21 & 22? many thanks :)
Hello, Christian! Jose from Sweetwater, here. Great question! Each channel on the Model 24 has a switch that will allow you to change the input signal from the analog mic/line inputs to the PC via the USB cable. This allows for you to take tracks from any compatible DAW and run them through the board for mix down. I'd love to speak with you more on the details, so feel free to give me a shout at my contact information below. Thanks for the interest! @@sweetwater Hello Jose! Thanks a lot for your reply, it clarified my question! :) So once the Model 24 is receiving the audio back from the separate tracks in the DAW via the usb cable, one can use the desks EQ, compression and add internal or external effects and then bounce down to track 21 & 22 I assume? Or we'd bounce down back in the DAW? I assume one could use the plug-ins within the DAW and program an automix before sending the audio out from DAW to the model 24... if thats the case then thats pretty powerful! Many thanks! I live in the Canary Island,Spain, so will be ordering one over here, probably from Thomann in Germany!
This with digital faders and knobs (maintaining analogue signal flow) would be perfect so it integrates fully into any DAW.... more inserts would be nice too
I think I'm going with this one. Checked out a bunch of mixers recently but this feels like a fit for me. I'll be giving my Sweetwater rep a call soon!🎤🎸🎹
doesn;t have a bounce track function, you could rig up something with send fx channels coming back into two inputs and record maybe but it's a bit of a fluff....or you could bounce in a DAW
The Video shows exactly for what i am useing it in my little Studio .. The thing is.. "ooh the recorder is pre fader pre eq and so on..." Dont care.. i use the master out straight to my mastering Rack with outboard gear and record after that back hehe... So i can use all the Mixer Effects and my studio stuff and get a dry recording from the mixer and a wet from my daw - if anything gets wrong i start back again from the dry recordings.
That's a good sounding demo. Did you use the pre-amps on the mixer or outboard gear ? Just asking because the drums need something like at least a half-dozen inputs for the mics, which means they need compression. I'm skeptical that the one knob compressor on a $999 mixer is any good. I'd imagine anything past 9:00 or 10:00 on the compression knob would create artifacts and unacceptable "pumping" and "breathing." Not to mention the fact that you have no control over threshold, ratio, attack and release. Even a Boss CS-3 has Level, Attack and Compression controls. Tascam should have excluded the one knob compressors and put inserts on the first 12 channels instead. This makes more sense because inserting even a "budget" model compressor like a FMR RNC1773, RNLA7239, ART PRO VLA or similar outboard compressor would do better. Someone may mention this, but you don’t get great results patching a compressor / limiter through the AUX send / return. AUXs are for reverbs / delays, etc. Unless you’re a one man band and record one instrument at a time, having only two insert points is extremely limiting the potential of this mixer. I’d be willing to pay a little more even if only for inserts on the first 8 channels. I hope someone from Tascam reads this and takes this into consideration when re-designing their MKII version ( I’m sure there will be one, I imagine, from what I’ve been reading. A lot of people have good things to say about the feature set and design . ) Don’t get me wrong, I like the format and most of the features as well, and would love to buy one, especially for this price. Any comments from the gentlemen at Sweetwater about the compressor ( or the mixer in general ) would be appreciated as well.
Thanks for the reply, that was very helpful to me ! Knowing the compressor is useful when used sparingly, and that the internal effects and the mixer EQ are all of good enough quality is helpful in making a decision about whether or not to buy this unit. Again, the demo song has very good quality sound. If you don't mind me asking, if you have further contact with a Tascam representative, could you please ask about including inserts on the mono channels. I don't think that would add greatly to the expense and I don't think people would mind paying a little extra if they know they can still use their outboard hardware. Everyone has their favorite compressor / limiter, EQ and such. Thanks again !
@Mitch Gallagher Thanks Mitch for your review! A question, do you know if the EQ/compressor is recorded on the SDcard/audio interface and are there any routing options for it? I work with a lot of synthesizers so if the EQ/comp doesn't print on the recordings this console doesn't seem usefull for my purposes. But I can't find any specific info on the routing/signal flow. Thanks!
Any chance Tascam can make an updated "MKII" version with inserts on at least 8 of the mono channels ? I just don't know how effective a one knob compressor can be, especially at this price point. I'd prefer inserts so I can use my hardware compressors and equalizers, etc. Actually, I wouldn't mind paying more for inserts on all 12 mono channels as well as parametric ( or at least semi-parametric) "low-mid" and "high-mid" bands. I like the 100mm long throw faders and the built in 24-in/22-out interface, though. Nice layout and design overall. Hope to buy one when they become available.
I agree, the lack of inserts may be a deal breaker for me and many others. If you can at least assign the signal coming in to tracks one and two to any of the other channels, that would be a big plus.
I agree also, though I think I'll hold out for the mk3 version which has all of the above and then also 8 direct outs for my tascam 38 reel to reel, ha! 😊
yeh true, seems like they gave up after two tracks?! but it does hve 3 AUX buses i think. But probably no function to 'print' that in a recording situation really. You could use it to reamp things but not standalone as there's no way to shift files around on tracks.
I’m having a lot of trouble getting this setup. I was able to figure out how to get my DAW to send each track to an individual channel on the mixer so I could mix. Now I can’t seem to figure out how to get the mixdown on the Model 24 back into my DAW.
Select Menu - Select Storage - It will now say USB Connected - look at your computer and the Model 24 shows up as a storage device. You can then bring each track in to your computer as separate files. You will be looking for Tracks 23/24 interleaved stereo file. For more info, here is tech support email - custser@teac.com
I have some very bad news about this Mixing board. I bought it, but there is a Big BUT about it. I need some help alright? I'm not able to get a true accurate mix while using the headphones. The sends on each track does not work with the head phones. The music and vocals fly all over each other with the headphones on, and the individual sends per recorded track do not work while you have the headphones on. They work without them only, but it's not fair that I can't give a true accurate mixdown while I have the headphones on.
It's a brilliant product. I had it demonstrated today. Noise is as good as non-existent. Very easy to operate. A question though, does it have any form of Ground Lift capability?
Which brand will come up with these 4 new futures. 1.Add motorized faders on all Chanels to control daws. 2. Add meters on each channel. 3. Make at least 10 Chanel’s. 4. USB multitrack recorder.
Very cool! Is there any part of the internal audio signal path that is analog, or is this a primarily digital mixer? Edit: Well, never mind! I checked your website and it says that this is an analog mixer with digital recording and connectivity! That is awesome! So essentially, this unit could be used as an analog summing box / recorder / interface. Very cool!!
Still no ADAT? Why a manufacturer has not realised what a sales point it would be is crazy. The ZED R16 still seems to be the only to allow you to make use of your old interface/preamp.
this video is burtally informative, i hope you see my coment, i want to ask you had the same level of latency than for example a focusrite scarlet ? you can use it as interfaze? and last cuestion i can use it with reason ?
@@ericwang604 Oh yes, I'm sure it was build for that purpose as it says LIVE TRACK. The 20 Channels is more advanced and offer more option that these two together, but cost lot more that I can't afford for now.
I bought this thing thinking it works as a real interface, and the way it's described in most videos, a DAW controller. They twist the words to the point of false advertising! The CHEAPER Model 12 will control DAW, and for recording a real drum kit, and an instrument, or 2. Witg the 24, the interface has the same functionality as Abelton LITE. You can only use 2 lines with DAW. I feel totally jipped. I ended up buying a Focusrite 18i20, and this thing collects dust. A grand thrown away. The need to update the firmware asap!
Will there ever be a firmware update that will allow, at least, the main mix to be record out to the SD card (or through USB DAW) at something greater than 48kHz, 24-bit?
No ... never! If you are a producer that really needs the dynamic of a 96khz Record.. then you are sooo professional (famous) that you can spend 3x times the money for this unit and look for a real Pro Equipment. But this right here, its for little bands and acts or home producer. And trust me, the headroom of a 48khz (above CD Quality) Mixer is more you need when you dont get 4000$ back from your job p/M. A good record doesnt depend on 96khz or 48khz... and also the good old WAV is still just right.
Nice retro-looking package there, thx; my interest’s in vintage 70s analogue Tascam gear but with the resurgence of interest in analogue, more makers may follow suit & develop mixers with as Silvia Massey does, combine the best of analogue sound & digital connectivity/edit ability. I like 2 c as well as hear what’s happening on each track/sub-group/master so I wonder if Tascam has a meter-bridge 4 this? Maybe a plug-in switchable LED array (beautiful big VUs a bit much 2 ask 4 I suppose, like on my antique MB-20. My old Model-5b has 4 honkin’ gr8 VUs for the 4 busses & 1 for the master.)
So can I just plug the usb to a computer and there will be 24 separate channels with analog equing before soundcard capture? In real time? With no sd card? Thanks.
Great demo, thanks for that. If you got you're tracks in PT and mix down (use pan, verb etc..) How do you record that final stereo interleaved mix for the final master track ? Back to PT? or on the Tascam? Or can it do both?
what are the specs of the converter? i cant find any details on the converters on any of there interfaces and i own the 16x08 interface. we should know

What latency is in daw, when is buffer 256 and sample rate 44.1 khz?
Let’s say I own a Model 24 . Then a band is playing live and wants a live recording. So the old analog way would be to have a splitter snake , one end going to FOH and other end of split to Model24. Easy. But in todays digital world, the sound guy say has a X32.without the SD option so this is why the band hires you with your Model 24 to record like. So how do you get the inputs from the X32 to the Model24 ? Splitter snake still ? Or lose the X32 and run show and recording from Model24. Assuming band doesn’t have x32 all ready for monitors etc and doesn’t want to lose the x32 setup. Simply how to add a model24 to a digital rig to piggyback for independent recording of multitrack
Not having a way to recall screen shots during mixing, means you are rather limited to faders. And this can be a real pain if you are trying to mix only using the machine, and want to fade or change you instruments in the stereo field during mixing. Imagine that you have 16 channels of music, and want to fade in 9 channels at the beginning....>How do you do this with 2 hands?.....Answer you dont.......So, once again, it was the Korg XD16 & 32, and the Akai DPS 24 from 15 yrs ago that offered scene shots and automated mixing......which sucks, as we are nearly 2 decades later, and no DEDICATED stand alone "recorder" allows for screen shots or automated mixing. = yuck.
I think Tascam never intended to make it a full-blown portastudio. It was an analog mixer first, recording console second. And besides, it's almost guaranteed that the average user will just transfer the files to DAW and continue the work there. That's the modern way to produce, we can't get around that. Even if there's demand for a true studio-in-a-box recording device, companies would rather invest on solutions that integrate better with the computer rather than being full standalone.
Yes thank you for stating the obvious. Its obvious that "computer" recording has been the "go to" for about 20 yrs, but the issue with this, is that you are chained to it. And then you end up working the way the industry has decided, which is "in the box" using plug ins. And then, every year is the new collection of interfaces that really have not improved in a decade, tho the marketing campaigns have greatly improved to make you think its all so much better. But in the end, you are a slave to this system. And why did they stop making really good stand alone recorders 10 yrs ago? Remember the Korg XD32 and the Akai DPS 24? Both were killer machines, fully integrated, flying faders, computer like editing, and ease of use... why? because the EU, decided that the solder being used in the factories in Asia that made these great units, was "harmful", and they made it illegal to use...So, out went killer stand alone units and in came the crap "Apollo" and the prosumer Apogee, and the rest of the junk, subject to fail interfaces that chain you to your Laptop or PC and screen. Welcome to the machine. Welcome to the same choices every year. Enjoy it.@@Max16032

Hello, Jacob! That is not something you can do on the Model 24. Thanks for the interest! Kevin Spunde, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1732, Kevin_Spunde@Sweetwater.com
I think it's a great device but far from being a capable Portastudio. It's more like an analog mixer with added SD-card recording and interface funcionality. It lacks many features that could make it a true stand-alone device, like bouncing, track-to-track transfer, mastering effects, no auto-record when detecting audio, no external midi sync, etc. Keen producers will probably find a way to record an entire track within the console itself, but at the end, it was really designed to be used alongside the computer. Considering this, the lack of control surface is another miss. Put simply, it's great if you're the target audience it aims at: For acoustic groups or multi-instrument ensembles it seems like a great tool to record live shows, demos and rehearsals, but it's very limiting for solo artists who use electronic instruments with digital tempo. Seems like the days of the true self-contained Portastudio are counted.

street price was $1,500.00. It would be worth every penny.
Idk, I think I prefer using channels for return, as you can EQ the effected signal and control it's level with a fader.
I'm still trying to figure out how to use Pro Tools as just a playback so I can mix purely with the desk but great video and the desk was one of the best purchases I've made
I like that Mitch dresses up for the studio.
This was cool seeing all of my favorite Sweetwater dudes just hanging out on stage.
I think this mixer would definitely shine doing live recordings, or as the centerpiece of a small studio. Thanks for the demo.
great video!
I just drove to Sweetwater from Canton OH last week and purchased the Model 24.
We grabbed some lunch in the Downbeat Diner and I saw Mitch in there too, and it was like seeing a celebrity, LOL!
The Sweetwater campus is awesome!
Does this not have midi? Why is Tascam taking Midi off of their digital recorders?
Almost everything I ever wanted and needed - but I was really hoping for a 96kHz sample rate in this day and age. Alas!
this is a great way to explain how it works - by showing it working. this answers all my questions, thank you!
Man, I wished this video existed when I first bought my mixer.
Sweetwater the band!!!
That was definitely lighter than prog rock. It was more jazz+billie jean than anything lol
I just thought they were trying to avoid copyright strikes! Well-played version, but having just heard the 'Billie Jean' break-down last night with the original tracks it didn't hit me right. Love the mixer explanation though.
Sweet presentation!
great demo..........in the 80's we used a new TASCAM 388,,,,,it forced us to get creatively tight ,,,,,,like VH 1 was ....
Thank you Mitch, this is a A+ Mixer Love it and thank you Sweetwater
Wow great video you guys 👌 very useful and valuable information
😊👍
Room is perfect, band is hot, and all lines checked and ready. Recored live but mixed in a studio. What could go wrong?
Recorder could be set in lower volume or to some effect, reduced amplitude, increase fuzz and static? Files of audio data could be scramble, truncate into many pieces that DAW couldn'tassembled back right? DAW could degrade sound quality of recorded data!?? Wires to recorder could be degraded with time, physical abuse per plug in and out of many many unforgetful times??

Mitch Gallagher is the MAN! great mix
Aside it's funtions ans specs. Is visual design looks good.
holy god, this is the best thing, all I wanted in one piece!
this is why sweetwater so good on selling gear, cause they also a very good musician, musician know what musician want.
Wow, you swallowed the pill ...

Mitch is the rep you actually look forward to.
Love. the band!
This with digital faders and knobs (maintaining analogue signal flow) would be perfect so it integrates fully into any DAW.... more inserts would be nice too
I think I'm going with this one. Checked out a bunch of mixers recently but this feels like a fit for me. I'll be giving my Sweetwater rep a call soon!🎤🎸🎹
tuesdays rain did you purchase this yet?
Solo-Buttons & Level-LEDs and this would be THE shiat
doesn;t have a bounce track function, you could rig up something with send fx channels coming back into two inputs and record maybe but it's a bit of a fluff....or you could bounce in a DAW
Crazy powerful product
The Video shows exactly for what i am useing it in my little Studio .. The thing is.. "ooh the recorder is pre fader pre eq and so on..." Dont care.. i use the master out straight to my mastering Rack with outboard gear and record after that back hehe... So i can use all the Mixer Effects and my studio stuff and get a dry recording from the mixer and a wet from my daw - if anything gets wrong i start back again from the dry recordings.
No vocals on the live band? C'mon guys! I want to hear those Tascam preamps on the human voice.
Way to skip a beat so youtube doesn't know what song you are playing :)
In 7/4, checks who's on drums.
Yep, NDV.
Makes sense :-)
That's a good sounding demo. Did you use the pre-amps on the
mixer or outboard gear ? Just asking because the drums need something like at
least a half-dozen inputs for the mics, which means they need compression.
I'm skeptical that the one knob compressor on a $999 mixer
is any good. I'd imagine anything past 9:00 or 10:00 on the compression knob
would create artifacts and unacceptable "pumping" and
"breathing." Not to mention the fact that you have no control over
threshold, ratio, attack and release. Even a Boss CS-3 has Level, Attack and Compression
controls.
Tascam should have excluded the one knob compressors and put
inserts on the first 12 channels instead. This makes more sense because
inserting even a "budget" model compressor like a FMR RNC1773,
RNLA7239, ART PRO VLA or similar outboard compressor would do better. Someone
may mention this, but you don’t get great results patching a compressor /
limiter through the AUX send / return. AUXs are for reverbs / delays, etc.
Unless you’re a one man band and record one instrument at a
time, having only two insert points is extremely limiting the potential of this
mixer. I’d be willing to pay a little more even if only for inserts on the
first 8 channels.
I hope someone from Tascam reads this and takes this into
consideration when re-designing their MKII version ( I’m sure there will be one,
I imagine, from what I’ve been reading. A lot of people have good things to say
about the feature set and design . ) Don’t get me wrong, I like the format and
most of the features as well, and would love to buy one, especially for this
price.
Any comments from the gentlemen at Sweetwater about the
compressor ( or the mixer in general ) would be appreciated as well.
As a current DM3200 owner, the Console 24 brings the best of Tascam's DM Series, the Portastudio and 80's analog boards all together.
Thanks!
So you didn't watch....
It's really good and much similar to Soundcraft Signature 22 MTK (it doesn't have on board recording).
great demo . im sold
I guess wiring inputs through patchbay is effectively building an insert. + less clutter and wearing those jacks on the console itself
I agree also, though I think I'll hold out for the mk3 version which has all of the above and then also 8 direct outs for my tascam 38 reel to reel, ha! 😊
I'm holding out for the mk4 with motorised touch sensitive faders.
yeh true, seems like they gave up after two tracks?! but it does hve 3 AUX buses i think. But probably no function to 'print' that in a recording situation really. You could use it to reamp things but not standalone as there's no way to shift files around on tracks.
Great band for the demo!
I’m having a lot of trouble getting this setup. I was able to figure out how to get my DAW to send each track to an individual channel on the mixer so I could mix. Now I can’t seem to figure out how to get the mixdown on the Model 24 back into my DAW.
Hello! Our Customer Service Dept would be happy to assist. Please contact them here tascam.com/us/support/contact/product/tascam
I just bought one I’m taking notes
It's a brilliant product. I had it demonstrated today. Noise is as good as non-existent. Very easy to operate. A question though, does it have any form of Ground Lift capability?

Is there any part of the internal audio signal path that is analog, or is this a primarily digital mixer?
Edit: Well, never mind! I checked your website and it says that this is an analog mixer with digital recording and connectivity! That is awesome! So essentially, this unit could be used as an analog summing box / recorder / interface. Very cool!!
It is a completely analog console only a digital recorder.
Mitch your videos are very helpful thank you sir you just sold a TASCAM 💵 💵💵💸💰
How do you check and correct mic phase issues?
Still no ADAT? Why a manufacturer has not realised what a sales point it would be is crazy. The ZED R16 still seems to be the only to allow you to make use of your old interface/preamp.
Thanks for this demo. Wondering why there wasn't any close-ups of the features at all? Bit dissappointing but good video, thanks.
Awesome!
Can you run a remote video monitor so you don’t have to look at that little tiny screen all the time?
this video is burtally informative, i hope you see my coment, i want to ask you had the same level of latency than for example a focusrite scarlet ? you can use it as interfaze? and last cuestion i can use it with reason ?
I'm still convinced by the Zoom LiveTrak L-12, 12-channel digital mixer and multi-track recorder
Hi Chris. I can't make the call between this model and zoom L12. Do u think L12 can handle the live gigs?
It's you. Do better research. It's the 21st century and we have google.
Anybody know how to set it up inside of FL studio the way he had his pro tools sesh?
Beautiful
they should come out with a 32 track version, just to have a few more D to A inputs.
Man, cant wait to get this one. :)
This is what I need.
I Just brought one home. I sure wish it had an internal metronome/click track.
My metronome is an ap on my phone that I stream onto the mixer via Bluetooth - go Lonnie Go!
So can I just plug the usb to a computer and there will be 24 separate channels with analog equing before soundcard capture? In real time? With no sd card? Thanks.
Such a music! I just bought a Tascam model 24 🌍❤🖐💞🌟
Great demo, thanks for that. If you got you're tracks in PT and mix down (use pan, verb etc..) How do you record that final stereo interleaved mix for the final master track ? Back to PT? or on the Tascam? Or can it do both?
great question, was wondering the same
what are the specs of the converter? i cant find any details on the converters on any of there interfaces and i own the 16x08 interface. we should know
What latency is in daw, when is buffer 256 and sample rate 44.1 khz?
Veljko Nenadić did you find this information?
So beautiful ❤
Great machine! I just picked one up last week. The only problem with this vid, was that awful version of an MJ tune, Billy Jean may not be the best choice for prog rock
It allows a clear idea of each track. Not too muddled.
Drums. Goooood.
I constantly hear engineers talking about reversing phase. Is this something you can even do on a Tascam Model 24?
Hello, Jacob! That is not something you can do on the Model 24.

But it can only record a stereosum, right?
Or does it records all 24 tracks separately? ... than it would be interesting.
Bravo review. Thanks :)
Is this mixer good for iem’s
