Nah fr. Joel was just being himself, i would also say pearl was playing as herself but ive only seen her "roll consecutive nat 1s" in double life. Critically failed her perception check for her soulmate, critically failed persuasion multiple times with almost everyone in the server, failed her saving throw for tilly.... Double life was sad asf for pearl.

Also, I love what Pearl and BDubs are doing. Absolutely distressed as players at their Nat 1 and confuffled at Joel, while the hilarity in the game of Pearl breaking her axe twice and BDubs shooting himself in the foot and Pearl trying to calm him down. Absolutely perfect
Joel just has that “fuck it we ball” energy almost 24/7 and I love it

I love the D&D designs, and the middle part where it goes from, "I rolled a 1" to Pearl and Bdubs being stressed at the table while Jeol just has this smug smile, then in the next, Bdubs is bleeding out and screaming in classic Bdubs fashion and Pearl is desperately trying to help/calm him down
Joel as an animatic's central character almost never happens, but this shows why it really should
My favorite thing about Joel this season is that if he wins, all the animators have to draw his life series merch hoodie which is a steep contrast to pearl’s cloak and martyn’s … coralness?

This is decidedly the best animatic of this song. It has been declared. Everything. The expressions, the movement, the mounders irl vs their characters, the way each character is so decidedly THEM! Mumbo’s exasperation, Joel being Joel. It’s perfect. You’ve done it.
A few (many) things I love about this, in no particular order:
- The last frame ("Bitch!") Joel's expression cracks me up every time
- The frame on "me and my boys gonna mess ya up" their poses look so cool!! It really does look like they're gonna mess ya up
- Jimmy is the child (..'s toy)
- Pearl's and Bdubs' characters look really different from their actual selves, but Joel's character is just The Cooler Joel
- The animation at 0:32 ("and they got to go"), it's super duper smooth
- The extreme detail at 0:40 ("I can perceive you")
- The pause at 0:51, cutting from cool-pose-Joel to super-bored-Joel
- The absolute PERFECT timing at 1:04 , when it cuts to Joel pointing at Jimmy and yelling "Short!"
- How absolutely minuscule his tiny little itty bitty body is at 1:17, even when looked at through a magnifying glass
- Nat 20s from Joel are always accompanied by him wearing sunglasses all of a sudden
- Pushing down his sunglasses at 1:37 ("right?"), looking incredibly smug
- Everyone's exhausted faces as Joel loots dat body
- The fuckign last frame. it's just so funny i can't help but mention it twice

I love that fact that joel, as one of the more aggressive players (even though he fails a lot-) , would be a bard which from my little understand of DnD is like the most frugal , fruity, funky, and weak ranks .
Yeah I personally wouldn’t have assigned a bard for him , probably a fighter or a barbarian
True, since bard is much more Scar's brand than anyone's. Buuuut.... bard is also a VERY versatile class, with spellcasting ability, a default buff to every roll due to Jack-of-All-Trades, and enough Charisma to speedrun every social encounter. I can very much see Joel finding an OP build online and playing a bard just to see if he can wreck with it.
Also, since you've implied you don't play? Don't assume people play to their personalities directly. Experienced players of tabletop games like D&D often seek playstyles that stretch and challenge us. I'm a super passive fuzzy bear IRL, but put a greataxe in my barbarian's hands, and I will gleefully WRECK. The idea that someone like Joel would use a twinked out bard build to take control in a way that isn't directly aggressive but is therefore MORE frustrating for the DM, since they can't reliably predict it? That is VERY Joel.
Frugal, fruity and funky, yes. But bards are full casters and get half proficiency in LITERALLY EVERYTHING as well as getting access to spells like *fireball* and *silvery barbs.* Also, they are great at support. Bards aren't weak. They are, though, a bit of a joke.

My favorite interpretation of this that i just came up with at 9:30pm:
Gem and The Scotts kidnapped Jimmy. Martyn lost Jimmy at a concert. The concert was for Gem and The Scotts. The band kidnapped Jimmy at their own concert and Martyn hires some of the most incompetent saviors he possibly could.
