The coolest thing about this animated clip is that it was originally a fanmade animatic. Tom Cardy saw this animatic and make a comment to know how to dm with him. Many speculate that hes gonna do a commision to have the final version and im happy that it was true.
I saw that! Sadly, I didn't see that until after I did this reaction, but still! So cool!
It was a fan animation that was in black and white and very much a storyboard, and he already funded having it turned into a full colour animation as you see in this video!
I think it still might be a drumstick in this too
A great added joke to the rogue's nat 1 is that there was a perfectly sized rock *directly* behind him, but he chose the absolute worst hiding place thanks to the crap roll 😂
Okay so. The stick figure with the hat and cigar (standing in the doorway at “stops you from forming meaningful relationships”) is from a hand-drawn meme known as “Are ya winning, son?” Where the figure is portrayed as a father, walking in on his aforementioned “son” doing a variety of things depending on the interpretation of the meme (watching anime, lying on the floor in existential dread, explaining that they’re actually trans, etc.) Basically they’re enhancing the idea of the “short mf” having trouble forming meaningful relationships, including but not limited to their father. Yeah 😅
Edit: also, Run This Game goes hard as shit. What the fuck
Oh damn, surprised I didn't recognize that one, I've seen that one tons! And thanks for the kind words about Run This Game, I've always been super proud of that one, since I wrote the whole thing (even Devo's verse) and it all came together so well with Ben's instrumental riffing on the original from Jay-Z. 😁 I always kinda considered that a underrated track of mine. 😅
Ian something you failed to point out was that tom was the only person who was wearing a cosplay the other 3 are just in their normal clothes while tom is wearing bard clothes
He failed his perception check
It’s not a cosplay, it’s just him as a person 😂
The stick figure guy is intentional. It's from a meme called "Are ya winning son?" And in this case the short kid is clearly not "winning".
He spits the dice because he spits pure gold which is what a nat 20 can feel like.
You also missed the "pondering the orb" meme just before the "are you winning, son?" Dad meme.
Still really good analysis as always.
"We all know people in nerd circles who are that one dude with a ponytail"
I feel incredibly called out right now...
I wish I had enough hair to put in a ponytail! Lol
Something I like; the DM is all "because it was a CHILD" and Tom Bardy says _child_ at the same time, before slipping in the fast line, "it's always a kid," indicating not only that this has happened before, but that it _keeps_ happening and he never, ever, ever learns. :D
Tom Bard-y.
I see what you did there 😏
The owl was also annoyed with his flute playing before Tom Cardy left the tree.
ok so the spitting dice thing... im pretty sure it comes from the urge of every dnd player to put the dice in their mouth
11:45
The stick figure is the dad from the “Are you winning, son?” meme format, which was referenced in the previous shot. Also, the kid’s crystal ball is cycling through the icons of various apps like Twitter, Reddit and Discord.
Two funny details you missed (and so did I until I watched this video):
The calender not only has the bikini-clad orc on it, but it says "Orctober".
The orc keeps changing poses, including at 10:50 where she's doing the "dead Peter Griffon pose".
11:43 it's actually a reference to a meme where the stick figure (presumably the father) walks into a room and asks their child "are ya winnin son?"
I love how scared the other players and dm are of Tom. So brilliant
One thing I haven’t seen anyone mention yet; the scene where the witch and orc are laughing at the hooded figure (“look how fucking short that guy is”) is a reference to another meme. Their pose is a recreation of the laughing wojak girls
The “non animated” character was a reference to the “ya winning son” meme. Like a universal dad meme.
Part of me thinks the ”tight crew” drawing could be a reference to the Step Brothers box art, or maybe it’s just a generic “bad Sears family photo” throwback.
You do a great job at giving us actual reaction content. Your ability to take a two minute video to a 15 minute video is amazing. Great work dude.
I just love how the bard is in full cosplay for his character
This guy's energy is astounding
I really just love the popularity this song is getting, looks like Tom's got another Logan Awards song.
The stick figure was basically another meme "Are ya winning son".
I think you also missed that the
Everybody says "look how short that guy is"
part is a recreation of the 'girls laughing' meme
the animator confirmed that Tom Bardy has like 5 more D20s stuffed in his mouth throughout the entire game
I just discovered your work, but your reactions to Cardy, the Stupendium, and Jazz Emu were a blast! You'd crack up everywhere I would if I stopped to think. Keep it up!
fun fact if i remember it was said that the bard didn't put the dice in his mouth all the time he had like 8 of them stuffed in his mouth for the turns
One thing you might’ve missed was that during one of the shots of the orc barbarian character lying dead, she was doing the Peter Griffin death pose
They didn't give up on drawing with the stick figure dad. Its obviously the dad from the "are you winning yet son" meme...
I think I've seen upward of 50 different versions of animation for this song alone and my god. Each and every single one is wonderful and I love the different versions. XX)
I like the Trogdor the Burinator in the background of the gaming room.
timestamp plz
my favorite is when you get the look of terror on the DM's face when he cast vicious mockery.
11:45 The stick figure is the dad from the "are ya winning son" meme.
I wondered why a reaction to such a short video would took this long
After watching this, i know why now
Considering Vicious Mockery is apparently an actual skill in the game, is it possible to actually kill something with it?
I saw someone comment on the original that Vicious Mockery inflicts as many damage points as a child has health points, hence the bard insulting the child and then getting to loot his corpse. I can't confirm the accuracy of that statement, since I haven't played D&D myself.
Or a first level wizard with just a 1D4 hit points ;)
Short answer, yes
Long answer, yes if you roll high enough and the target has low enough hp
i'm not sure there's anything that deals damage that you couldn't theoretically use to kill someone in dnd. there are some things that deal nonlethal damage by default, but even they can be used to kill someone if you really want to, and vicious mockery is not among them.
Most damage I found after a quick search was 146, which is a lot considering the average commoner has around 4 health. There's actual magic laced into the words being said that attacks the mind directly, so he's basically magically hitting the kid's ability to function with the force of a car.
In Tom's defense for killing that child before he even bothered to hear what the DM said... if a DM demanded that I rolled to *PREPARE* my weapon (and made me drop my hammer on my head if I rolled a 1), I would make his life and campaign a living hell too XD
the half assed dad character was the "Are you winning son" dad
He often uses props. His phone in Party Dog is an aircon remote lmao
I didn’t get the “tight crew” frame until you explained it’s the awkward family picture meme. But I was like “surely that can’t be a real thing” And one google search later proves me wrong. Hilarious
I somehow found a way to sing this during my D&D campaign
on an unrelated note I'm not allowed to play as a bard anymore
the stick figure with hat and cigar was to keep up continuity from the previous scene about the meaningful realationships which was drawn to resemble the "are ya winnin son." meme with the very same dad.
bro got weird all? fuckin legend
I'm late to the party because I just recently saw this song (original non-animated) which I thought was super funny and saw multiple times, which led me to the animated version which led me to this video because, hey, it's Insane Ian! Good stuff!
Just found this channel and the intro is Weird Al. I am already subbing
Yeah i know right
I have this theory that the reason he rolls the dice by spitting it out, is because the dice have a physical concave/convex imprint on the numbers, so by feeling the dice with his tongue and through trial and error, he's figured out how to get the rolls he wants everytime, it explains how he got 3 nat 20's in a row, and how he could dupe the others into into thinking its random by intentionally getting lower rolls, including failing some rolls all together that he doesn't care about, its the perfect crime
The stock figure is from the are you winning son meme
Stick not stock
11:40 the dad is actually a meme character, look up "Are ya winning, son?"
I may just be reaching but to me it looks like the rogue's eye is moving to the sound of the dice roll when he's looking for a tree to hide behind lol.
I am going to have a rpg session with my friends tomorrow, gonna try tom's technique of spitting the dice 😂
Have you watched the Ghost Rap Cypher from Freshy Kanal? It is amazing.
"DEAD! DEAD!... hilarious."
_"...this is just a..._ (awkward pause to realize grammatical error) _animated video."_
11:21 me whenever I see goblins 😂
Comedy comes in threes
I think you should react to Dan Bulls minecraft mob raps, they are really fun, and has more puns than you could shake a stick at.
But I don't know anything about minecraft! 😅
@Insaneian it doesn't really matter if you know about minecraft or not, his songs are a very fun listen, and his funny raps also pretty much explains the mobs pretty well, a bit exaggerated, but they are Comedy songs, which should be expected.
I'm curious if you've watched any of Team Starkids musicals, given they're comedy musicals.
Are those the folks that did A Very Potter Musical with Darren Criss back in the day? I've never watched anything by them, but I think I know *of* them at least.
@@Insaneian Yes indeed, they've done several parodies like the aformentioned AVPM and it's sequels, an incredible Aladdin/Wicked style subversion and some originals, most recently a "trilogy" of horror themed musicals all set in one town covering different/parralel events; "The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals", "Black Friday" and "Nerdy Prudes must Die". While unrelated there are some connecting threads so if you were to give them a look I'd encourge watching them in that order. They seem right up your alley, whether you react to them or just enjoy them in your free time
This has big bard energy for sure.
but why does he roll the die to cast vicious mockery? It''s not even a save for the enemy because then a nat 20 on the save would mean the enemy saves and takes no damage! This is just comedy gold. ❤️
Man I love this animation, though I don't like it when my non D&D playing friends who have seen this video ask me if this is how d&d id played.
If you want another Tom Cardy song to react to, The Feed, the show that did that Property sketch musical has at least one other Cardy song he wrote and performed with Victoria Zerbst a couple years ago about lockdown stuff, if you need to fill a week. :) ua-cam.com/video/hnPYUww7XDI/v-deo.htmlsi=fOUChhgHljwphnjR

It’s the “are you winning son”
Y’all I think Ian FINALLY has a general idea of his intro
I've only been doing it this exact way for about a year or so, so I would *hope* I do 😅
You should react to Perception Check (Tom Cardy) Live Action Cosplay from Midnighters Guild
11:38 think you missed the point ... the character first appears being flicked off "stops you from forming meaningful relationships" and then appears again at the birth ... it's his father. They didn't just "give up" "animation ... anything goes." There's a point to it. Clearly, the lack of dimension emphasizes the disconnect between father and child. I watched your video specifically looking for more ideas on that and got a complete whiff on the ball there. In both scenes, the dad's smoking and has a hat, first scene he appears to have a tumbler, both he starts off smiling and ends up disappointed. Not sure how looking in the crystal ball at twitter and discord and his shortness relates to it.
It's the dad from the "Are you winning son" Meme
@@rententee Thanks. It totally is! Apparently, I was close.
Omg write a book about it.
Morbid curiosity brought me here. I just had to know how you took a video that's one minute and 50 seconds long and stretched it to almost 16 friggin minutes.
Not shutting up for those 16 minutes, pretty much.
How have you not reacted to "One for all" yet, especially the "Bardic Inspiration" Song or the "Battle of the Bards" ???
I tend not to react to the songs that are a minute or under, or just barely over a minute, as it doesn't usually give me much to react to.
@@Insaneian Uh... they are two "musical pieces", being 6 and 7 minutes long respectively, from the now 5 seasons long sketch webseries "One for All" made by Deerstalker Productions, funded by the Australian governemnt,
They are both over 2y old now, and have gathered over 1.7m views each.
Trust me when I tell you, you will have a field day reacting to them, especially if you like DnD. Not to mention, they are musical and comical masterpieces with an insane production (costumes, extras, acting, crew, sets, props, etc.).
Bardic Inspiration: ua-cam.com/video/oZI7s0cVdNI/v-deo.html
Battle of the Bards: ua-cam.com/video/MpYxTcd6T_0/v-deo.html
@@agentxx3022 OH! I thought they were some shorter Tom Cardy songs 😅
@@Insaneian Nono, just the "gold standard" when I think of DnD comedy songs ^^
Though, Tom Cardy is pretty great too, got this damn song stuck in my head for the last 3 days...
bro multiplied the length of the duration of the video by 10 times dear god
You must be new here 😅
@@Insaneian yes, yes i am lol
2 minute video turned 15 minutes
Par for the course, here.
Not even 1 minute in we’re 6 minutes in.
Sometimes that's just how it be around here.
OMG HAVENT EVEN---- WEIRD AL INTRO?????? Like just for that my guy hold sheit
Is there a reason his tongue is green?
You missed trogdor the burninator.
Let the whole clip roll, laugh and react in real time... Then go back and dissect!!
You're killing me smalls!
No. If I do that, I'll forget what I was going to say.
Go frame-by-frame and peep those buttery smear frames
I wish I could, but the frame-by-frame advance doesn't work for me.
@@Insaneian On a paused video, tapping comma and period will move forward or back. By default at least, I'm not sure if Adblock or other plugins interfere.
@@nomukun1138 I know. I don't use adblock or any plugins but it just doesn't work for me. 🤷♂️
Lol, I'm like number 1k
yo ian why dont ya react to some non music but still comedy videos? it would a nice change of pace.
Who the hell marked half the video as "filler"????
Where does it say that?
@@Insaneian Sponsorblock.
@@TheRealBatabii whu?
The thing with pausing the video that kinda annoys me is, when the reactors aren't paying any god damn attention to the video and them asking "what happened?"
My friend, your job is to REACT, and you fail to do even THAT.
Not you though, you go back and make sure you annalize everything.
Oh my God dude I get you wanna do an analysis but can you at least watch the damn video for 5 seconds without pausing it and pointing out something we all can see
At least watch it once then go back and do your 12 minute analysis
No.
New record, you got my downvote in less than 15 seconds.
So, in enough time for Weird Al to introduce me and for me to say the first bit of my intro, you decided to not only be a dick, but also broadcast it to me?
Bravo. Your cookie is on it's way.
Also, thanks for the video click and comment! Despite your "downvote" you just *helped* my engagement so more folks will see this video!
Have a great day!
@@Insaneian Honestly, I don't care for your video, but you have misunderstood my reasoning. I think content creators (even ones whom I dislike the content of) should get more attention. They have to fight against all the let's plays after all so they tend to get skipped over by the algorithm. A vote, down or up makes the algorithm more likely to spread your video to peoples recommend, as does a comment. I downvoted and commented not to be a dick but to get the algorithm to give you the attention you deserve, however since I didn't like the video a downvote and since I had nothing positive to say I merely let you know I downvoted you. For videos I don't like and don't want to support I don't comment or downvote, I just click don't recommend. You on the other hand, by responding so toxically have done nothing to aid my channel and merely portrayed yourself as someone who needs to "get even" with anyone who doesn't like your videos. In that you have done more damage to your reputation than what you thought I was attempting to do. Next time just be the bigger man, or not I guess, it's up to you.
@@Mistychan yes, keep thinking that "new record, you got my downvote in less than 15 seconds" isn't a shitty thing to say to someone. You could have not said anything, and left it at the thumbs down. Regardless of my response, you still started with mudslinging. But thanks for the continued comments and clicks...you're still helping my channel more by doing so, as I pointed out before. Have a good one! 👍
Stop pausing it so much jeez, give your opinion and stuff at the end
No.
