Man this is crazy. So....I graduated Highschool in Texas and left there to go to college at SNU in Oklahoma, City. Dropped out after the first semester. Left there and went and worked in the oilfield. Worked there for seven years and really thought I had it figured out. Got laid off one day and asked myself...is this it? This cant be the entire reason we are born. To work till we die. Although we are born to Live and live till death. So I challenged myself, I got into acting because its something I've always wanted to do. Chasing that till this day. Four year's into acting and have currently booked some pretty cool projects. Moved to Los Angeles to discover a different lifestyle other than the one I had living in Texas. Let me tell you it was a major culture shock. Small town farm boy living just North East of downtown LA. I mean 15 mins from downtown and about 25mins from the "Hollywood" sign. Anyways...Moved there in December of 2019 to chase my dream. Well four months later EVERYTHING gets shut down due to "We all know what shut us down in 2020" So I moved back to Texas just lost. In my pursuit of acting it forced me to start studying the Art's and philosophy. Although I'm a very new guy to the study...I've always questioned my existence and well the entire purpose of this life. Well fast forward to a year later here I am watching this video. I mean this is a sign right. Well this was alot of jabbering but I find that it may relate in someway. Just wanted to let you know where I'm at in my journey. Post virus and all the crazy things happening in the world right now. I feel like this is a dying study and I feel like its so important. Thanks. haha Its late and this makes no sense but just wanted to let you know that there are a few of us still listening.
When you’re faced with something you cannot change perhaps nagging worry as an exercise would be best looked into. There is value in evaluating motivation for worry. Maybe “changing” as a desired outcome is less important than chipping away at why you think it needs changing. We could discover something about ourselves in context, not a worthless outcome. We could also discover that something once believed unchangeable is not nearly so and avoid a pattern of labeling to prevent us from doing the busy work of trying.
I think it’s incredible how you can learn this through reading books, and another can learn it from a mystical experience, even from someone meditating. There is so many different pathways to reach this same conclusion!
“If you were deliberating about the gymnastic training of your son, would you follow the advice of the majority of us, or the opinion of the one who had been trained and exercised under a skilful master?” - Socrates
Love it. The only thing I disagree is on the matter of other things existing because of our observation. If every human died, or every thing that can perceive sound, vibrations will still move through the air.

You won't believe it if I tell you how much you and I have same experiencess in life. I watched most of your important videos and I realized these are exactly what happened in my life, and this man has same beliefs and attitudes as me. Although with one big difference, you've reached to this position at the age of 24 but me on the other hand got reached at age of 29. It was a very painful journey for me and I wish I could've become better sooner. What you are doing with making these videos are wonderful, because you are helping others just like you and me to become better sooner in every aspects of their lives before it becomes too late. You are showing how most of our problems have so much easy solutions, so we should seek right answers instead of those answers which society is trying to presents to us. We should be aware of traps and illusions, so put our focus on becoming a better person for ourselves and others sake, not becoming the one who wants just consume everything other people offer, and become a greedy and selfish person. So thank you. Sorry about my bad English. I hope you see this comment. I wish someday we meet each other in person. I don't have any friends but having you as a friend is such a great honor. Until then take care and be safe.

Philosophy for me , it’s cold water from the mountain, where the view is so shiny and white ... where the snow still abiding on ground. .. philosophy is a strong meal , where not every one get to; is like music , where Gods drown from above .. making the Cosmos very close with Divine and make rational minds to perceive clear emotions and feelings.
This is just me chiming in and giving my opinion as a bible believer and reader. Though I do not understand everything, I do understand that it is not us that grants ourselves bodily function. It is not us, you, or I, that wakes ourselves up in the morning, and gives us the power to move the members of our body. So when you said that we have to humble ourselves and realize that we are nothing I agreed with you on that tbh. We have to take a moment and appreciate the little stuff in life and be thankful for it. God bless you all and have a good day/night!
The last one is probably the more important one. I knew lots of people being stuck in a unique philosophy and... well, didn't seem to make them really happy at all. They looked frustrated for some reasons..

Shards Of Divinities is an incredible novel that will transform you spiritually and intellectually. It's about the intersection between science/logic and religion/spirituality. The novel is available on that site named after a river in South America.
@Cole Hastings, Islam as a religion, if anyone understands it in fundamental level, you can have the broadest view ever, way more than philosophy. I recommended you to understand and convey it to us.
The problem i have with stoicism, is that it endorses "letting go" all the while implying control. You become trapped in a catch-22. Sure, who wouldn't want to control their emotions, and live worrilessly. But you get caught up in this state of "forced control" which becomes tiring. Rather than "control" your anger (a counterproductive act of suppression), consciously observe your anger in the heat of the moment. Look for patterns and triggers. Which you then could avoid in the future. Besides, there'll always be that one situation, where all that control gets thrown out of the window, and you could be a monks monk.
Philosophy degree holder here, the main thing to know about philosophy is that It's the reason paracetamol is so cheap, us philosophers used it so much the cost went down
A person living in the past is truly depressed, and a person who’s living in the future is always stressed out, but the person living here and now is truly happy
I’ve recently been watching videos like this and similar so now I think very different and have different thoughts and feel better mentally and can appreciate little things more Thank you
The problem with Stoicism is the timeline that is written is completely different to the timeline we live now. In Ancient Greece they had way more knowledge and power over things, but there were some things they couldn't change, thus Stoicism says to focus on the things we can change instead. The problem comes when we come to this timeline. Nowadays we have technology and we live in such comfortable lives making us weak. There's so much we could change yet we choose not to, because its the easy path. TLDR: Back when Stoicism was written, people were trying to change the things they couldn't, now we dont even change the things we can
I think you have that backwards somethings we can change others we can't change such as I once got a kite stuck in a tree so I went to throw my cat but I remembered my dog ate my cat and my cat ate my mouse so I threw all three, so I climbed the tree now who will eat me?🐴
Not so sure. We live in a time of Superstructures, of problems so huge it’s hard to make an argument without for or against any action for you have no real impact, it’s why apathy has reigned for decades.
Kindred spirits, you and I. Philosophy isn’t some esoteric, rhetorical theory, but a methodology, a process for seeking fulfillment: what the Ancient Greeks called “eudaimonia”.
“Philosophy means mind, philosophy means thinking, philosophy means going away from yourself. Philosophy is the art of losing yourself in thoughts, becoming identified with dreams. Hence I am against philosophy, because I am all for religion. “You cannot be philosophical if you want to be religious; that is not possible. Religion is existential, philosophy is intellectual. Philosophy is about and about, religion is direct. Philosophy is thinking about things you don't know. Religion is a knowing, not thinking. Philosophy depends on doubt, because the more you can doubt the more you can think. Doubt is the mother of thinking. “Religion is trust, because the more you trust the more there is no need to think. Trust kills thinking; in trust, thinking commits suicide. And when there is no thinking and trust pulsates in your being, in each pore of your being trust permeates you, overwhelms you, you know what is. “Philosophy tries to know, but never knows. Religion never tries to know, but knows. Philosophy is an exercise in futility, of futility. Yes, it talks about great things - freedom, love, God, meditation - but it only talks about. The philosopher never meditates. He talks about meditation, he spins and weaves theories, hypotheses, inferences about meditation, but he never tastes anything about meditation. He never meditates. “Hegel, Kant - these are philosophers; Buddha, Kabir - these are not philosophers; Plato, Aristotle - these are philosophers; Heraclitus, Plotinus - these are not philosophers, although in the books of philosophy they are also called philosophers. They are not! To use the word 'philosopher' for them is not right, unless you change the whole meaning of the word. Aristotle and Heraclitus cannot be called philosophers in the same sense. If Aristotle is a philosopher, then Heraclitus is not; if Heraclitus is a philosopher, then Aristotle is not. “I use a totally different word, 'philosia', instead of philosophy. Philosophy means, literally, linguistically, love for knowledge. Philosia means love for seeing, not only for knowledge. Knowledge is not enough for the real enquirer; he wants to see. He does not want to contemplate on God, he wants to encounter God. He wants to hold His hand in his own hands, he wants to hug and kiss God! He is not satisfied with the concept of God. How can the concept be of any help? “When you are thirsty you cannot be satisfied by the formula H2O. Howsoever right it is - that is not my concern, that is irrelevant - right or wrong, the formula H2O cannot quench your thirst. You would like water, and whether you know about H2O or not does not matter. For millions of years man has been drinking water without knowing anything about H2O, and it has been perfectly satisfying. “Philosophy talks about water, religion drinks.”
Philosophy is a complex matter, vast and intricate. Everyone has their own take on it comprehends life differently but at the end of the day u still gotta get up and go to work in this flawed society created by humans on this tiny planet.

Wow Cole, today i met you and i watch most of your modern films. Im greatful for your work. Thank you. Love from Poland.
MY GOD.. 50 philosophy bookssd.. Now I know from where this divine knowledge was coming.. 😳
What can I achieve through meditation? Ps I haven’t watched the vid yet reading comments
As always, great content Cole. You deserve all the success you are having. Keep creating, educating and transforming lives.

Man’s Search For Meaning / logophilosophy is the GOAT of all philosophy and really all anyone needs to live a fulfilling and in turn happy life.
Reading philosophy is easy but to know the core meaning is very hard
that alan watts perspective about life is something deep
Love it. The only thing I disagree is on the matter of other things existing because of our observation. If every human died, or every thing that can perceive sound, vibrations will still move through the air.
So refreshing to see young people who are woke not on autopilot people who are self aware conscious we are a rare breed keep up the great work
Meditations is such a good book to calm anyone down.

as a non native english speaker .. it was hard for me to understand... what translation you read ?
@@xavier1404 I read English version. You could read it very slow. It's not a book that you need to absorb all at once.

Good vid, wish he included Nietzsche who really takes you on a thrill ride through history and philosophy.
I can imagine you would also like Eckhart Tolle, other books on mindfulness and much of the Buddhist-based spiritualities as well. Maybe existentialism to some degree as well.
The books in philosophy I've read so far:
1. Meditations
2. Letters from a Stoic (Seneca)
3. Descartes
4. Kierkegaard, Fear and Trembling
5. Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil
6. Heraclitus
7. Zizek, Event, The Sublime Object of Ideology
8. Badiou, Wittgenstein's Antiphilosophy
9. The Monarchy of Fear, Nussbaum
10. Camus, The Stranger
. . . And I'm about halfway through about 20 others (mood reader).
Brillant piece of moviemaking and preaching deep truths at the same time. Content creators like you are needed on YT 🙏
Thanks bro!
Thanks for the love
You're not better than anyone else and you're the entire universe.
Today I had a debate with myself that what is actually consciousness and I came to answer that consciousness is everything
I woke up and discovered the secret of life this morning. It’s all about me, what I think, my feelings, my happiness, my wants my desires, my relationships, my money, my success, me, me, me, the game’s all about me.
It is about “My game is better than your game”, surely, even for the loftiest of philosophers.
Here's a book called love
Love is impressive of consultation..but love is conquest of justice..so consume all vision of preference..and visualise the importance of solution..so whether you are a jealous lover or a confident trust of worthy.. sustinance of creativity is to commit your value to impress him or her..and to confine in your attribution of defence..is to convince all your commodities of life within your mind
You must've read many books on stoicism with a splash of buddhism. Both really cool thoughts
That Alan watts philosophy is so mental when you actually think about it. Love the content :)
Thank you! Once you fully comprehend it you start looking at the world a little differently
Philosophy and Akira on his bookshelf? This man has great taste
“The Ethics” by Baruch Spinoza is 🔥 might need a translator though lol but it’s been life changing for me
I'm having trouble grasping some of the stuff too but its interesting
Really? You could understand it?
@@blahbleh5671 nope lol not completely but I’ve listened to summaries and read articles to better understand it
@@AllSeeingThai Ah I see, I wouldn't have believed you if you said yes. It was extremely difficult for me to read.
Spinoza's Ethics is best read together with a (book) guide by a modern scholar who is able to convey its ideas in a more digestible form for us mere mortals.
You said 50 books but mentioned like 10 of them.
Have you read Nietzche? Descartes? Plato? Schopenhauer?
And if you really like zen, have you read any part of the Mumonkan? Shobogenzo? Maybe some modern more self-helpish stuff like The Power of Now?
There's so much to learn. Goodluck!
Hey hey hey....hold up hold up😊🤔its not a law class philosophy kinda like...soft and easily digesteable philosophy...we dont wanna go back to 'cogito ergo sum'😊🤔though arguably that's where it all begins...save for Immanuel Kant's disapproval
its clearly a clickbait bro, did he studied 50 books then alan watts wouldn't be focused primarily
You really do try to use your platform for good man, I admire that a lot. Keep up the good work, you’re an inspiration to someone like me who wants to improve their life
Philosophy for me , it’s cold water from the mountain, where the view is so shiny and white ... where the snow still abiding on ground. .. philosophy is a strong meal , where not every one get to; is like music , where Gods drown from above .. making the Cosmos very close with Divine and make rational minds to perceive clear emotions and feelings.
one stoic practice that really changed my life is being proactive
What is it?
Good explanation.
Thank you brother ❤ for video 😊
Very informative bro. Thanks

I took a philosophy class and read meditations on first philosophy by Rene Descartes, now I find myself reading philosophy books recreationally.
Great! Any reccomendations.

You mentioning alan watts made me smile! I love his philosophy so much
@Cole Hastings, Islam as a religion, if anyone understands it in fundamental level, you can have the broadest view ever, way more than philosophy. I recommended you to understand and convey it to us.
Stoicism really helped me see how emotion people are when they really don’t have to be
The problem i have with stoicism, is that it endorses "letting go" all the while implying control.
I’ve been grinding out self-help books for a challenge recently. I’m mid way through “The Richest Man in Babylon”. Great video man!

Philosophy has guided me through life
A person living in the past is truly depressed, and a person who’s living in the future is always stressed out, but the person living here and now is truly happy
I’ve recently been watching videos like this and similar so now I think very different and have different thoughts and feel better mentally and can appreciate little things more

“Philosophy talks about water, religion drinks.”
thank you for this 👏🌹
What do you think about science? For once, I think that science is more against religion than philosophy is.
Philosophy is a complex matter, vast and intricate. Everyone has their own take on it comprehends life differently but at the end of the day u still gotta get up and go to work in this flawed society created by humans on this tiny planet.
Well said
