In this video I will be sharing the steps to sew a Bridgerton Inspired Dress, and you can find the downloadable PDF pattern in my Etsy Shop, KittyJBerry.

This dress features a double dart on either side of the bodice, puffed sleeves and a full circle skirt. While inspired by Regency wear, I wanted to up the drama and romance with a full and long circle skirt.
This video is one of two ways you can make the dress. The pattern includes 1 bodice style with two skirt variations. If you prefer a slightly more historical accurate silhouette, or more freedom in fabric choice I recommend you check out my other video, showing the second way to make this dress.

This video is a bit of an updated version of my Bridgerton Dress video from last year. Since then I have made a PDF pattern I wanted to revisit this dress and the try to explain process to put it together. This dress came out so lovely! Your work on this dress is excellent and gave me some really helpful insight into making my own regency gown. I do not intend on making a full circle skirt with the taffeta I'm purchasing (7 yards...you do the math) but if I run across a pair of nice cotton bedsheets I'll be sure to make a day dress with a fuller skirt. It moves wonderfully! Thank you so much for making this fantastic video!
Yes the Full Circle Skirt version certainly consumes alot of fabric! Good luck making your gown, I'm sure the taffeta will looks gorgeous, and a bed sheet dress would be a great idea, and I'm sure very comfy! Hello. Just wondering. Is there any way to make this dress with hand sewing instead of machine?
This is amazing, definitely buying this! Do you think a half circle skirt would work as well with this bodice?
Thank you! I'm sure you could try- but I don't think the waist of the skirt would be long enough for pleats in the back of the dress. If you didn't mind it smooth all the way around it may be possible. But again the front 2/3 of the bodice take one half of the circle skirt, and the back 1/3 of the bodice uses the other half of the circle skirt.

Hi ! I just bought the pattern and can't wait to start the dress tomorrow. Just wondering, how many hours do you think this takes, approximately ? And I'm not sure what's the difference between a full circle and a paneled skirt, which is the easiest to do ? Thanks!

Hi, Thanks for your lovely comment :) I do recommend this pattern to intermediate level. However, I have had some people who are new to sewing use this pattern and have success. In my Etsy reviews you should be able to see some reviews where people share about their success. I do want to say, that it might be quite challenging to begin with a dress. When I was a beginner I started by making much simpler projects, like pillowcases. If you think you are able to sew the basics, and you have watched this video and feel up to the challenge then it might be worth giving it a go. There are many great resources on UA-cam to help if you get stuck, and I will try to be helpful too. I will also be sharing a new Regency Dress pattern and video soon - Maybe sometime next week - I think this video will be a little bit more beginner friendly, if you have the time and wish to wait a bit. Hope this information helps :)
Do you recommend the panel vs circle skirt for different kinds/weights of fabric?
I think fabric weight / kind of fabric will depend on your taste. If you want a dress with a softer drape I would use something like a crepe back satin. A silk may give the skirt drape a little more body and structure. When choosing your fabric see how it drapes and consider how it would look as a dress. Many fabric types suit this pattern. I have made versions from satin, cotton, chiffon, eyelet, synthetic, ect. Depending on fabric choosing you may wish to interline the bodice with a layer of cotton to give it body and structure.
However, fabric width is something to consider when choosing a fabric. The paneled skirt can be cut and arranged on a narrower width of fabric. My purple dress is made from a fabric with a width of 44 in. The circle skirt version will need a wider width of fabric to accommodate the large circle shape - perhaps at the very least 52 inches wide. My pink dress if made from a fabric with a 55 in width.

I have been watching your Bridgerton gown videos nonstop, I am very new to sewing and am going to the queens ball soon and decided to try and make my own Bridgeton gown. I was wondering if you had any video recommendations for some more basics so I can understand more of the sewing terms. I want to follow your videos and pattern but some of the terms and different types of stitches are hard for me to understand☹️
Hi there, if there were some specific terms you were confused by please let me know I will try to elaborate. I know you can search for videos for things like 'French Seam' or 'Insert Sleeve' or 'How to make a circle skirt' and there are very detailed, step by step explanations. For the most part I usually only use the Straight Stitch and the Zig Zag Stitch on my Singer machine. To gather I just adjust the length of my straight stitch to the longest setting, (which is 4 on my machine) and then pull the end threads to gather it up. Every other seam is sewn straight, and either finished as a french seam (which is just straight stitched again) or I zig zag over the raw edges to finish. For the hand-sewing it is nothing special, just a quick whip stitch to join the lining to the seam allowance. I hope this information helps.

Can I use the sleeve pattern from a size bigger to get larger sleeves? :o
Hi Yes, That would be possible, it will add more gathers. I'm not sure what part of the sleeve you want bigger - so using a sleeve a size up may or may not help.
How difficult do you think it would be to add an overlay to this dress? It would basically be like making a double dress, right? Out of curiosity, what was the seam allowance you used on this dress? Thanks in advance!
Hi there, I don't think it would be difficult to add a second layer, like a lace overlay. I would recommend stacking the lace with the fabric and interlining and sewing the dart of all three bodice layers together at once. If you sew the dart separate and then stack you will see it. The skirt would just be a second layer. The patter includes 1 cm of seam allowance. Hope the helps :)

Do you have a tutorial if I wanted to add a lace overly to the skirt to make it pop?
I'm working on one now :) Hopefully it will be out soon. But you can sew the lace as a second a separate skirt (make two layers of skirt so its swishy) and sew the darts in the lace with the under layer on the bodice. Hope that helps some!

@@madison1207 Yes, you could cut a second layer from your lace, and stack the layers. You can sew the skirt lace layer and skirt satin layers separate, and attach together at the waist edge, if you want more twrily-drama.

How tall are you? Im not sure how long i need to make my skirt. Im 5'5'
I'm about 5 ft 8 in. The best thing to do is measure from your under bust down to wear you want the skirt to end for the length of the skirt. make sure to add a few cm to that measurement so that you have extra room to trim the bottom edge to make it even and add a small rolled hem.

I have ran into a huge problem 😰 My fabric isnt wide enough for the circle skirt!! Im not sure what to do now
You can make the paneled skirt version instead. Or cut the half circle shape in 1/2 or quarters and fit it onto the wdith of the fabric, then sew up the sides. Just a few ideas

Any tip how to adjust the size to smaller bust size? I usually wear 38 and the underbust size is indeed 38 for me. But the bust size is 34. The standard 38 cut is completely off for me and I have no clue how to adjust the size.
Hi there, sorry I’m a little confused about your measurements. Could you clarify your underbust and bust measurements for me ? Either inches or cm thanks!
I recommend measuring around your bust at the fullest point. If your bust is 34 then maybe make the size 34. (Since sizes are labeled by bust size in inches not EU sizing) You could also try sizing down to a 32 ? for a very snug fit. If you find out your measurements lmk and I will take a look. @@KittyJBerry Thanks for reply! My measurements are 87cm bust and 81cm underbust. I decided to figure out the top by myself making a pattern with masking tape method first. I'm still using the back panels, skirt and sleeves from your pattern for it. It works so far, maybe not the best fit, but its my first :). However, the sleeves make it difficult to raise hands. I am thinking about redoing the bias tape and making a rubber band instead, but don't know haw to do it with two layers of sleeves ( I have satin and organza layer on top). Do you have any tips or useful resource for it? Thanks!
