      @@essencebeasley6524 lol tightlacing in the Regency ? That's pretty wild since the job of Regency stays was to lift & separate the bosom and maybe smooth out a tummy if need be-- some stays didn't even extend much beyond the empire waistline of the dresses . On top of that, though bone eyelets existed past 1800 most eyelets were still hand sewn and tightlacing basically requires the metal eyelets that didn't show up on corsets until like 1840 ? So yeah almost certainly Regency tightlacers even among the most fashionable and luxuriant of them.

    • @ArtemisScribe
      @ArtemisScribe 3 роки тому

      The costuming style came down to a three concept theme according to one of the behind the scenes videos that really put the whole thing in perspective for me "Real History, High Fashion, Shonda". Each costume has to have an element of all three concepts apparently. Once I heard that I went back and started to look at the costumes again with this specific aesthetic in mind and it made so much more sense than just taking historical accuracy into account.

    • @ArtemisScribe
      @ArtemisScribe 3 роки тому

      @Charisma Girl show me where I said historical accuracy sucks, because I didn't.
      I was explaining the modern influences on the costume design. And how once those had been explained to me (someone who was very confused by the costume choices while trying to look at them in a purely historical sense, of which I actually have quite a bit of knowledge) then they made much more sense.
      I also believe that by explaining how and why costume decisions are made that people are going to be much less likely to assume that these are historically accurate costumes. You don't educate people by berating them, you educate them by engaging with them. My absolute favourite film as a child was the 1940 Pride and Prejudice with Greer Garson. It also sparked my love of costuming. Have you seen the costumes in that? They went with the absolutely wild choice of 1830s ballgowns and 1930s hair and makeup. But those of us who love it are under no misapprehension that it is an accurate depiction of regency fashion, or even late Georgian/early Victorian fashion!
      And Bridgerton could have been so much worse, it could have been Sanditon where they put their main cast in 3rd rate extras' costumes from other period dramas and left everyone's hair down like it was a shampoo advert! At least Bridgerton chose to make their own visual concept. I respect an active artistic choice far more than a passive one. And bad passive choices will be far more common if we keep pushing this "historical above all other things" mentality in costuming.

      @Charisma Girl The very things that annoyed you annoyed me about the series too. However, once I got over the historical "fantasy" aspect, I just tried to enjoy it. Kept reminding myself that fiction is always fiction. You should hear my SO going on about "Vikings" and how no real Viking with any brains intact would charge any battle without some kind of helmet and their gear would have been all mish-mash, because looted from other victims and so on. What's really going to annoy both you and I is that the younger generation will think all the historical inaccuracies are gospel truth, all because some studio execs somewhere thought this is what the sheeple want. The intellectual laziness is the real epidemic.

I'm living for those embroidered wildflowers, and although I would never choose green if I had the pretext for going with a warmer colour, this colour scheme, and the intricate, beautiful details of the embellishments are absolutely stunning. Which, of course, is Angela's whole brand. What a genius at using textures, sparkles, floofs, and all kinds of pretty trifles; what a pro at whimsical, fun, creative designs. Also what a stunner, even in a "maternity dress" and a garish wig; definitely can pull off the notoriously unflattering Regency silhouette, even if it's not her favourite. All round, *chef's kiss*

    There are so many shows that I don’t necessarily love the writing and/or characters but manage to enjoy it enough overall to look forward to another episode- especially when fun/interesting/historical costuming is involved

    I love this color combination! The peach tulle layers really helped marry the green and pink together (even though I also think the green by itself was lovely!). You also make using the embroidered lace to create your own appliques or trim seem much less daunting than it feels to do. I'm kind of tempted to buy a yard next time I buy fabric to try it now, so thank you! It always feels so scary and intimidating, but this really did make it seem much more attainable and straight forward.

    Everybody looks like they’re wearing maternity dresses in the Regency. You’d have to be consumptive to look right in them. It looks fine on you. More like the 90s version of P&P. The colors are ridiculously over the top but that’s Bridgerton. Very nice.

    The dress is absolutely stunning. I love that shade of green. It's one of the prettiest colors and the overlay has such beautiful flowers on it. My favorite is the big puffy sleeves. I think it looks gorgeous on you especially with how you did your makeup for the photos.

    As unflattering a style as these dresses are, your eye for colour and detail really pulled this one together and it looks exceptional in its own right. It really plays to your strengths as a designer and creator. Coral and green are very difficult to balance, but you got it just right on this one, and the amount of embellishment is exactly right.

    Easily my recent favorite of your creations! But then I love regency fashion, called Empire (pronounced the french way) here on the continent. And I love green and apricot, so really, a perfect project in my book. Looking forward to the upcoming parts of this new series (and some watchlist recs ;) )
