    Great basic bass line tutorial, I like how you immediately show the results, I don't want to wait a minute for every change or variation, lol. There's another typical bass line where they delete the first note, so you get something like this : 0111-0111-0111-0111 (1 measure), you got a bass drum where you deleted the note.
    Thanks for the inspiration!

    The basslines in 80s music are distinctive for their punchy, groovy, and often funky qualities. They typically feature a prominent, driving rhythm that anchors the song, creating a strong sense of danceability. Great tutorial. I could dance to these bass lines!

    How is the lowend being approached in Synthwave ? I assumed it's like anything else, but then i heard this huge thick high pressure wall of lowend on the Timecop1983 - On the Run track, and it sounds controlled and intentional. I didn't think lowend was particularily important to Synthwave, other than making sure there is sub content so it doesn't actually and literally sound like an 80s production. But that track gives me the impression that the 'epic' wall of bass is a feature.
    I can hear there is a sub drone aswell as the sub of the kick and the bass arp. I would imagine needing to control that by carving space and manage the interaction between the three, ducking etc. But then there is a level of control that creates this dense and constant pressure of bass, without sounding like a muddy mess. I imagine a bass buss perhaps, compression, harmonics, envelop shaping, but i'm wondering if that dense and high pressure feeling is intentional. Maybe it was done in mastering. Synthwave has alot of pure synth sounds, and those really can be pushed by high level mastering gear. (even though i doubt Timecop bothered with that).

    • @SynthwavePro
      @SynthwavePro  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the comment.
      On The Run, I believe that he might be using the Korg Polysix for his bass line (preset: fat line bass)
      layered with another bass layer (whole notes sustained)
      I think the kick is a softer kick with less sub frequency information (not sure) might be a 707 kick drum.
      As for his mastering chain, he might have some kind of shelving eq to boost the lows and highs.

    • @bontempo1271
      @bontempo1271 2 роки тому

      @@SynthwavePro ah ok so, nothing out of the ordinary or particular for Synthwave. It could just be a compressed low shelf.

    Question: Why is so much of Synthwave music in a minor key? Just something I've noticed that makes me curious.

    • @SynthwavePro
      @SynthwavePro  2 роки тому

      Great question.
      Most western popular music (pop, EDM) are in minor keys.
      Sonically, the minor scale sounds (edgy, mysterious and ethereal.)
      That's not to say the major keys are lacking, but major keys tend to sound "uplifting, happy and lively"
      There are a few videos on UA-cam that take well-known minor-based pop songs and convert them to major - they also do the inverse.
      The results are surprising.
