we strive to give the most accurate information, errors may occur. Subsequently,
this video should not be a replacement for medical advice.
There's an error in the example equation:
50/850 *100 is 5,88..., so that's a weight loss of about 5,9%
(to get to 6,25%, you probably calculated 50/800*100)
WHOOPS!!!!!! How did that happen?!!!!! Totally wrong calculation!!! Thanks for bringing up quickly!!!
@@TalaTalksNICU nonetheless a great video, I definetely learned a lot. Keep up the great work!

Hi, I am a NICU RN for a hospital in Illinois! I love my job, love learning, and watching your videos! I would appreciate a video on IV pumps. Thanks for all you do!
Hello! That's a great position to be in- loving your job and learning (actually feel quite lucky about it). The only thing I know to do with an IV pump is how to turn it off when it's beeping!! (And I guess calculate the rate- dependent on dosing and concentration- but that's just maths!). Let me see if I can find someone to cover that! Would be a great and very helpful video!
I'm a nurse from Viseu/ Portugal/ Europe!

Hi Dr Tala. Firstly Thankyou so much for all of your great videos. I’m from England, U.K! Studying my advanced neonatology practitioner masters programme. Your videos have helped me so much through my teaching programme and can’t thank you enough. Unsure if I have missed it but just wondered if you have any videos on the following:
• Hypo/Hyper-Thyroidism (blood interpretation)
• Blood gas interpretation (more in depth)
• Inotropic support
Thanks once again for your videos! Have a lovely weekend, James. X
Hello James! Thanks for your lovely comment- so glad that you find these helpful at all!!! We really need to cover inotropes soon as well as hypo hyperthyroidism- we’ll make that a couple month goal! We filmed a couple of videos on blood gases- they were pretty basic so I’m not sure if you were looking for something more in depth - let us know?!
@@TalaTalksNICU Hi, thanks so much for getting back to me. It was more of an in depth aspect of bicarb and base deficit etc, parameters that you are concerned with or what to look out for. I do some teaching myself but just wondered on what you would cover, not to worry! Looking forward to the thyroid & inotropes talk! Best wishes from England 🏴
Enjoyed watching this. Well done Dr Tala. NICU, Nigeria

Hello Dr. Tala, I would like to thank you for your effort to deliver such clear practical neonatological contents. Could you please explain the concepts of Apnea of prematurity and how to approach it. Thanks a lot :).
Hello Ahed! Thanks so much for being here and for taking the time to comment. We NEED to cover apnea of prematurity soon- it keeps getting pushed down the line- but it’s a core concept we haven’t covered yet! Thank you for the reminder!

A Neighbour! Hi! Thanks for being here!
I've learned a lot from your videos. 1. Could you provide the bibliography from your video presentations? 2. You mentioned the application of ultrasound in your video. I wanted to inquire about the usage of ultrasound in your unit. Could you please provide a detailed explanation of ultrasound? Thank you.
Hello! Great questions- generally we put the bibliography in the reference section beneath each video. Sometimes when it's just well known (eg SGA definition)- I'm not referencing it. We made a video on the books we use in the NICU- and often I go back to those ones. We are starting to use ultrasound more in our unit- we are trying to build a program and get everyone trained. I would need to find an expert who is willing to give a lecture on ultrasound usage :)
@@TalaTalksNICU I am a NICU physician from a level three hospital in China. Due to language barriers, I need to listen to each video multiple times to understand. However, I am very happy to learn a lot from your videos and hope they continue to improve. Could you possibly include a few cases in each video in the future? I feel like that would make it even more interesting. Thank you.
That is a fantastic idea. Will try to start doing that at end- thank you for great suggestion!

Hi! So happy you’re here- thanks for letting us know where you’re watching from too! Will add to map!
Hi Tala, you are doing great job of teaching on UA-cam.
I have question for you. What is difference between SGA and IUGR ?
Great question! SGA used after babies born and is less tenth percentile for GA. IUGR is a OB term/ when babies falling off their growth curve in utero. So if they were 50%ile at 25 weeks and then they’re 15%ile at 29 weeks they are IUGR. But not necessarily sga! Does this make sense?
@@TalaTalksNICU seems logical, excellent 👌

That is just the sweetest thing ever! Thank you!!! A medical student gave us our first super thanks about two months ago (and I had no idea what it was)- and I can’t tell you how touched we all were. Thank you for thinking this is worth any more support than time! We love that you’re here so much!
Hi Dr. Tala,
The World Health Organization (WHO, 2023) defines preterm as a baby born before the completion of 37 weeks. So they define a baby born at 37 weeks and 2 days as preterm. Should we go based off the WHO, or where can I find out more about what actually defines pre term?
hello! You know I think this is one of the most confusing things in neonatology- when guidelines are written for 'X weeks' and we have to figure out if completed or not. You're right the way WHO words it makes it sound like it's 37 completed weeks- but if you look through their definitions it's less than 37 weeks (iris.who.int/bitstream/handle/10665/363697/9789240058262-eng.pdf). This WHO document goes through in more detail. Hope this helps!
