    Hello ASL Heroes!!!
    Hey, I could really use your help.
    If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you.
    A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com.
    Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!”
    www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G
    Thanks!
    - Dr. Bill
    p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at:
    lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm
    Take care and love to you all.
    :)

    The "close by" G-on-the-nose sign looked really familiar. I think what I recall is seeing it to mean "a smell coming to/entering the nose". Or maybe I saw it with a 5-handshape. But the sign's location/movement/orientation looked familiar.

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  5 років тому +2

      Right, the 5 into an "S" handshape at the nose is a good version of "to breathe something into the nose."

    around 03:33 you where talking about a deaf/blind person and how they signed braille. would the way that they signed it be correct/understood or would I be looked at crazy?
    also on a joking note are the students/assistants there to distract the learner's/viewers? cuz they are always nice to look at.

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  2 роки тому

      My point in sharing that was the actual Deaf-Blind person's version was much more condensed and on-point and that I learned the better, more condensed version from someone who tended to sign that concept much, much more often than me. Thus the shorter version was actually more authentic.
      It is the same with many other signs. For example, my friend is Korean (Deaf). He and other Deaf Koreans do a very smooth, quick, (brushing) movement for the sign "KOREA." That version is much more authentic than the version commonly done by American signers who have no personal involvement or connections to Korea. Funny/Sad is that when I did the evolved (condensed) version while chatting with a non-Korean friend that person (the non-Korean friend) felt the need to "correct" me (cough, cough) and show me the citation (dictionary) version of the sign (as if they were educating me, heh). Another friend, a terp up in Alaska informs me the same regarding the local sign for Alaska used by people there. Again, it is reduced, easier to do, more authentic, and evolved to be streamlined.

    I've seen the alternate cereal sign with an x handshape, instead of the C.

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  2 роки тому

      Yes, excellent!
      I've got that "X" hand version in my Signs channel database and need to add it to my Lifeprint (dot) com page for cereal.
      ua-cam.com/video/vEl4n4SYHpQ/v-deo.html
      Cool thing about the X version is it is based on the shape of a scythe which is (or was traditionally) used in the harvesting of grain.

      Yara,
      You asked if I have "Instagram." At this time I do not. I might have an old account username somewhere. I will look into it.
      Do you think it would be a good idea and if so why? If you are familiar with Instagram what sort of tips might you have for a new user?

    • @suzannehedderly1331

      Bill Vicars I think it would be great if you were on Instagram. I know 2 other deaf UA-camrs who are. You could do short word of the day or short lesson on deaf culture or anything you'd like to teach. You're a good teacher! It can also help drive traffic to YT.
      By the way, these last two videos have a loud buzz or hum...like a fan or electrical thing. I just turn the sound down so I don't hear it. Thought you'd want to know.
