- As I was going thru boxes of my old VHS tapes, I found this little gem. A wonderful vintage video from December 9, 1984. Its the Variety Club's 9th Annual All-Star Party: This year honoring Lucille Ball. Filled with her friends and family; Hosted by Monty Hall. Featuring Joan Collins, Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant, Carl Reiner and Sid Caesar, John Ritter, Vicky Mc clure, Shelley Long, Dean Martin, Jimmy Stewart, Gary Morton, Sammy Davis, Jr. who delivers a moving tribute to Lucy, Mr. Burt Reynolds. Capped off with a special song to Lucy from her son Desi Arnaz, Jr. and daughter Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill who is visibly moments away from giving birth. Monty introduces Lucy and she gives a very heartfelt Thank You to everyone for making the evening possible.

How I miss these celebrities who had talent and class and truly entertained us. Dean and Frank were the life of the party.
Real Stars ⭐️
Now these were REAL STARS.
Look at the wonderful people dressed up and respectful from a time in the world that we will never ever see again Ever PERIOD!!!!!
If I had one wish, it would be to go back in time and crash this party. Man! Look at all those legends.... with Lucille as the cherry on top! I'm star struck just watching :D
me too
Now That's a party I'd like to go.
Mmm. Me, too!
@@illnsp08 You, & me both!
If I could hit that 'like' button a thousand times, I would!!! We could go together!
When the big 3 of the Rat Pack make it you know you're the queen of comedy
cjrrun Were Dean and Sammy ever honoured by the Variety Club and get to sit at the top table like Frank?
@@lindashelley3635 Don't think so
This was a gala of legends, my goodness! I’m in heaven 💫
Now these were Stars not trashy but classy, to see them all again most who are gone. Lucille Ball was a Treasure, I love Lucy B she's so missed.💕💕❤❤
Sinatra was 69, Stewart was 75, Lucy was 73, Grant was 80, Caesar was 62, Reiner was 62, Ritter 36 (died just19 years later), Long was 34, Joan Collins was 51, Dean Martin was 67
Nope. Lucy was 75.
@@lindakilbride6755 She died April 26, 1989 (aged 77) so in 1984 she was 73
@@jjgreek1 but she was 6 years older than Desi. Lucy was born in 1911, Desi was born 1917, and Desi died in 1986 at the age of 69.
@@jjgreek1 yes, she died in 1989, but this particular Kennedy Centre Honors was held in Dec 1986.
@@lindakilbride6755 so the headline on the video is wrong?
The greatest sadness of all is that we don’t have legends like this alive today. Too many to list, unfair they are gone.
After watching this I'm going to watch The Long Long Trailer, I love Lucy.
The best of the best. There will never be performers like these again.
I love it that no matter where or what, Desi will always be a part of her life, even though he hurt her, she forgave him.
Desi and Lucy became closer after their divorce - spoke regularly on the phone (weekly) co-parenting and Lucy regularly called for advice about shows. They visited their grandchildren together. Desi sent red carnations (her favorite) to Lucy on their Wedding Anniversary at least 15 years after their divorce. They both had successful 2nd marriages, Lucy to Gary Morton till she died and Desi with Edith Hirsch till her death. Seems like both Edie, Desi's wife, and Gary, Lucy's husband, accepted their close friendship. Actually Lucy and Edie played cards together and Desi and Gary golfed together. ❤❤❤❤ to the 4.
@@LJ-ht4zs Yes, Desi even met Edie be ever met Lucy. I know all. Gary used to call Desi Husband-in-law since he Desi was there a lot and Desi said he doesn't care what Gary thinks about him sending flowers every year on a few occasions. I am editing a lot article/dissertation about the , no matter what, it will be heartbreaking.
All those stars!! Pretty cool, sadly most have passed on , but through re-runs and you tube we can watch these awesome actors!
I thought of too and felt sad.
I miss those days, i miss these fabulous entertainers. Todays entertainers can't cut it.
I would love to own this. This is such a classic!
Will they ever be classy actors entertainers like this ever? 💎👑❤
Wasn't this GREAT?! IT feels good to reminisce
No Never ever again, because the young people of today don't want it or care about it either, it's not only sickening but unforgivable as well PERIOD!!!!!
I remember watching this show with my parents I miss the 80’s
Tere's a reason they were called by Tom Brokaw the greatest generation. Icons and legends the likes of which we will never see again.
Well said!
so true!
Truly a who's who of classic old school stars! Most have passed away. Wow! What a moment in time! We love Lucy!
If there ever was a room to be in, this is it. So awesome how they all came together to celebrate her ❤
I’m glad she got all the well deserved accolades while alive. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Amazing collection of entertainers.
I doubt whether it would be possible to make a party like that today.
Go watch AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards. I think they were modeled after this.
What a gem you found. Lucy was a god given talent she was hands down the best actress of her time she could make you fall of your sit laughing and then she could change it to a tear falling down your face. I LOVE LUCY
Dean Martin.. the best on this whole show.
I love watching these old shows. Wish I could of been there. ♥
Wow. What a great bunch of great entertainers!

3-6-2020 This is sooo heartwarming,
I can barely take it!!
This was ALL a delight to watch. Thank you for sharing ❤😢❤❤❤😀😀😀 I miss Lucy and all celebrities that night. I have been blessed and lucky to have been born in the late 1960s and appreciate all the classic movies and the legend of celebrities that have passed on.... the golden age.
My favorite male movie star of all time was Cary Grant (saw the movie Suspicion on the MIllon Dollar Movie on tv at least 7 or 8 timess from age 12-18. He looked great here at age 80. Still a handsome appealing man. Loved Katherine Hepburn, she was #1 female actress for me, except as I got older Lucille Ball became my favorite actress for all times.
The Greatest Generation… thanks for sharing.
I"m so glad Lucy recognized in real time by the world and her peers within her lifetime. She certainly earned it.
A Room filled with real legends!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. God bless you.
Classic Hollywood RIP 🌈 2019
Lucille Ball what a classy lady!!!
Sid Caesar and Dean Martin were so funny.
Loved both of them -
Wow, I don't think I remember this. Of course I was only 18 years old when this aired. Being 18, with a good job, driving in my very first car and My first broke up with my first girlfriend. Well I wasn't much into watching television at around that time. It was until the mid 1985 is when I was getting back into watching television. Thank you very much for posting this. I really enjoyed myself watching this.
Me too just graduated from High school in 83

Hi, OH that was Wonderful! To bad it stopped!😁🤗🐽✌❤,Sheryl

It's so sad to think knowing all of the celebrities that have died😢
As I sit and watch this, I'm naming in my head everyone I see .. They should of let Diana do her own song though..Her and Lucy performed together on tv before.. Dorothy, Bea Arthur,) Dionne Warwick put that cigarette down..
Love Yu2 was diana ross there? i saw dionne warwick but i dont ross would of let some white chick do her act if she was there
Jim Branca
No, I think we've would of noticed the Fabolusness of Ms Ross..lol
It would of been nice though..Her & Lucy performed together on tv
@@loveyu2778 Yes with Dinah Shore
I saw Frank 10 years later in concert!
Dean Martin is the funniest person here, chic and charm 👌❤️
Наталья Лифатова i loved Dean. Funny and so talented.
Wow....love this and seeing all the stars! I am such a fan of I Love Lucy! Love everything Lucy did! But I find it sad that Desi Arnaz was not there. I know they were divorced...... but they had two beautiful children together a beautiful family a history together and the amazing I Love Lucy show together! I think they were friends afterwards and they had their grandchildren he should of been there.
I wish Desi and Edie were there too. The two of them were friends with Lucy and Gary. Maybe illness prevented them from coming?
Most all of the people you saw are gone and so is the class and glammor!! VERY SAD
Dean was the best
Love Shelley Long at 21.55
Me too! What a beauty she is ❤️
Most of people in that room are dead now! Thanks for sharing
Haha! Lucy says to Dionne Warwick, "Hi Diane," 😂 haha.
The 80's we're really good....
saw it when it first aired. glad i have it
Thanks for posting this! I have seen it before but! this is a better quality picture & sound, I was able to pick up what they were saying more clearly in some of the background talk & funny I never noticed Dionne Warwick smoking really until now either haha. What makes me a bit sad though is how how rapidly Lucy went downhill in just the 5 years following this, It really makes ya think she would have perhaps been with us even longer if she would have quit smoking sooner ya know. Thanks again! :) p.s do you have the remaining ?
Yes, the smoking was bad for Lucy's voice, and ultimately took her life (heart issue). When Lucy and Desi were on tv they always smoked - at that time no health warnings about smoking - also cigarette companies were sponsors. Desi smoked cigarettes and Cuban cigars and died of lung cancer. My father died at age 61 - smoked since age 12. When the health warnings came out he was addicted to cigarettes - 4 packs a day! He was younger than both Desi and Lucy. Damn the cigarette companies for suppression the info about the dangers of smoking plus what chemicals they put in to make cigarettes more addictive.
Good to see John Ritter, and it is a little unsettling that both died of the same aortic disection.
So much gold lame and glitter
WE ALL DIE SOME DAY AND OUR TIME IS SHORT AMEN
Bea Arthur, smoking her ciggies.
Nelson Riddle..good night!
Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan!
I loved Sinatra's singing
So many true legends all in one room! I’m surprised Gale Gordon wasn’t there.
Bob Hope??? Carol Burnet???

The gold matalic dresses and big hair plus big talent ....
Oh look black and white in one room having a great time. Hugging loving each other. Hmmmmm I think 2020 is biting the poison apple!
Anymore please
This is amazing all those Legends in one place , Is that Sean Connery at 5:27 ?
Absolutely Sean Connery and his wife.
If you didn’t see it Bea Arthur was smoking a cigarette. I thought that the whole smoking thing was a joke on the Golden Girls but apparently not, hmm I guess you do learn something new everyday.
She was a marine of course she smoked.
narcissa clink I didn’t know that she was a marine.
Its all incredible with a great show and Lucy was amazing but where was Bob Hope and Carol Burnet?
Last of True Stars ⭐️ look at Audience
Where was this venue--is it the Variety Arts Center Women's Club Downtown Los Angeles??
no carol burnett???
That Reach Out and Touch segment awkward haha
Wonderful event! I see Morgan Brittany! Were any other cast members from Yours, Mine and Ours here?
Didn't see Hank Fonda or Van Johnson. Were they still alive? Hank Fonda and Lucy were very close, also close to Van Johnson, they did two movies together and he also appeared on I Love Lucy in their wonderful dance together - totally wonderful and brilliant. A+++
@@LJ-ht4zs Thanks for your comment. Hank had died 2 years before. Van lived to be in his 90s! He died in 2008 I believe. :)
@@regannem Hank Fonda a Lucy did 2 movies together - The Big Street and Yours Mine and Ours; Van Johnson and Lucy did 3 movies together - Easy to Wed, Too Many Girls, and Yours, Mine and Ours - plus Van was on 2 tv shows I Love Lucy and The Lucy Show.
I keep looking at Dionne Warwick
Joan Collins just had to upstage everyone when it came to clothing 😅😅 what a crowed of comedians... carol Burnett, Vicki Lawrence, B Arthur, Betty White and Lucy herself and many others !!
Where´s the rest?
Was that Frank Sinatra’s ‘minder’ Jilly Rizzo sitting opposite him at the centre table?
No it's Marvin Davis who at the time owned 20th Central Fox studios
I do not know why they do not give credit or too much credit 4 Lucille Ball when she did her musical movie made I think she played it perfectly and she was more gorgeous than Angela Lansbury and others that played Mame she look gorgeous and her lying seated the good okay the singing that I can say wasn't that good but the acting and the way she looked and she was up and me and she had happy scenes sad see and very emotional sad scenes then she took it all the way to the bank please give her some credit I think she just loved me at her age which I'm not saying she was old old now but she wasn't and she was a little old she wrote beautiful she was radiant that you can say that for the other actresses that played Mame like Angela Lansbury I say again Rosalind Russell I think it was OU sucks some actresses played and it's not because I Love Lucy and I do she did so good from Comedy to drama or the same X so let's give it to her she deserves I love you I love you Lucy God bless you.🕯📺🕯👄🚬😇❤💋🕯🙏⭐💋🕯💙
Actually loved Rosalind Russell playing Auntie Mame (not a musical) also in that version like the other actors better - the nephew both younger and older and his wife, as well. I did not like some of the casting in Lucy's Mame - did not feel that the director gave it proper justice - unfortunately because of the skiing accident - the movie was put off for at least a year and she also could not be as agile - physical comedy - because of the severe leg injury. Wished she had not done it. Also, while I did not see Wildcat, have heard her sing the song "Hey Look Me Over," she was terrific - 1960 she looked good and sounded good, however, the 8 performances per week caused her physical exhaustion. While she did not get rave reviews her fans loved it and it was a sold out for the entire run - but due to exhaustion she could finish and personally gave back the money for the tickets to her fans. Also, since she had just gotten a divorce in 1960 - emotionally exhausting for both her and Desi - very sad. Both these productions would have worked if circumstances were different - less demands in 1960 and better casting and directing for Mame.
Where's Carol Burnett, Bob Hope and Henry Fonda?
And Gale Gordon.. this was before Life with Lucy wasn't it? Also was Viv still alive? Im sure there's a story about Carol, they were great friends
Also Don Rickles is mia
Henry Fonda was dead, unfortunately.
@@regannem Oh that's right. Thanks.
@@guyinsf No prob!
Hosted by Monty hall
At the very beginning she called Dionne Warwick "Dianne". LOL. Obviously they were not close. LOL!
