Paul from Canada. Thanks for this information on Bells Palsy. I was just diagnosed last week with it AGAIN. I had it previously when I was about 26 years old. Now I am 65 and getting it again. Although this time around it is not quite as bad as it was the previous time. I feel anyway. I am taking a few weeks off work due to my left eye only partially closing when I blink. It gets dried out and irritated often and other times waters excessively. So I am trying to be careful with my eye and nurse it a couple of more weeks before trying to return to work. Using eye drops and ointment at night and taping my eye shut at bedtime. Last time I had it I did see significant improvement after about three weeks. But I am older now so not sure how this experience with go second time around. I am getting some acupuncture on my face tonight. I have booked in for massage and either acupuncture or electro therapy every other day for the next week. That will take me to the end of my first two weeks by next Friday. I can't remember when I started the electro therapy the last time I had it. But I thought it was after about one week. The person doing my massage and therapy has urged me to not rush the recovery too much. I was going to start some facial exercises today. But after watching one of your other videos realized maybe I better hold off for a few more days to start that. I think my situation this time around seems to be more of a partial paralysis as compared to before. I just finished my doses of predesone. That stuff is horrible. But I guess it works. Thanks again. Any other suggestions you can offer here would be appreciated. Thanks again Kate. Great videos. ❤
Good morning Paul. I am very sorry that the disease attacked you again. The good news is that there are no significant differences between primary BP Patients and recurrent BP Patients in terms of symptoms, palsy severity and presence of comorbidities. Some scientific sources indicate a slightly delayed facial nerve function recovery in Patients who experience the disease again. Fortunately, however, it does not affect the final outcome. In your case, the recurrence of the disease occurred after many years, and it is difficult to find scientific studies with such a range of dates. Nevertheless, you can check this study: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6843582/ As for the tip - it's hard to judge anything being 7,000 kilometers away from you :) I would have to assess which muscle groups are working and which are not yet. We start exercising when there is at least a minimal, active contraction of a given muscle. And we apply this principle regardless of whether it is a primary or secondary disease. So, go through all the exercises in front of a mirror and assess which ones cause your muscles to contract at least slightly. Don't push those where you see a complete lack of movement. Wait few more days with those. From what you describe, you are under good care of specialists. Moreover, you know what you will be facing, so getting through the disease will be easier for you psychologically. Take care of yourself and as you already know, be patient. Let us know in a few weeks how much progress you have made. Thank you very much for your Super Thanks. It's absolutely wonderful that despite your problems, you can appreciate and support others! I did the same exercises shown in the video. In terms of food, i cut down sugars and simple carbs in effort to reduce over all body inflammation. I also made sure to get sun when possible since my vitamin D levels isnt the greatest. With that being said, Im not a doctor or a medical professional, i did this because it made sense to me and made me feel like I’m a little bit in control so take this advice with a healthy dose of skepticism. Best of luck to you
Hello, that is an excellent question. The reason why I recommend starting exercise after about 2 weeks is physiology. For the first dozen or so days after the Bell's palsy, the nerve is practically completely paralyzed, i.e. it is impossible to make almost any movement with the affected side of the face. If at this point you try to force movement by exercising in front of a mirror, your brain will systematically send information to muscles that will not respond and will not give positive feedback. It is completely different when nerve conduction begins to return (which usually happens after about 2 weeks). Then you only support the movement of the muscle to which the impulses are already reaching, which gives the appropriate feedback to the brain. In addition, the muscles of our face usually work symmetrically. If you force a movement too much, with one side completely paralyzed - the other (unaffected) side will be more stimulated. This leads to a very dangerous, pathological distribution of muscle tension. In my experience, Patients who start rapid, intensive rehabilitation through exercise from the first day after paralysis, more often develop synkinesis. That is why I personally recommend that you start exercising only when you see at least the slightest active movement of a given muscle. Have a great day!
First of all, try to stay calm, because most cases of Bell's Palsy heal completely within a few weeks. Remember not to cool your head and neck - if you live in a cold climate, wear a hat and a scarf. If you already see that the movements of the paralyzed part of the face are coming back - as I mention in the video, you can start doing the exercises. Be careful not to overwork your muscles. Of course, follow your doctor's instructions, if your doctor has prescribed any medications for you, you should take them. I keep my fingers crossed for you!

It's almost 22 days of my Bells Palsy, I'm recovering very slowly. I continued therapy for 11 days, then my doctor suggested me to watch UA-cam videos of bells palsy and do the exercises at home. My eye side, upper and lower lips side (When I say E) and my nose side (when I am in the position of bad smell) is not much improving, Please recommend me which exercise can heal my those areas completely.
Hello. I know that 3 weeks seems a long time for you, but it's really just the beginning of recovery time in Bell's palsy. It usually starts to improve in 2 weeks but may take 3 to even 6 months to return to normal. Although it's very difficult, you just have to be patient. At this stage it is very important that any movement of the paralyzed muscle begins to occur. If you see at least minimal movement, that's great news. This means that the impulses are correctly transmitted to the muscle. You don't have to make a complete move like on the non-affected side - a minimal muscle twitch will be a reason to be satisfied at this stage. If you want the exercises to be individually tailored to your condition - consult a physiotherapist in your area. From what you describe, exercises should focus on the muscles surrounding the mouth, in particular those that lift the corners of the mouth to the side and up (smiling face, grinning - especially the upper jaw, pronouncing sounds like EEE, SSS). It will also be helpful to practice sounds in which the tongue rests on the upper palate, such as LLL). Pay attention to the symmetry of the face when practicing and help the affected side achieve symmetry with the help of the hand. And as I mention in the video, don't overload your muscles. I am keeping my fingers crossed for your recovery!
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraidtrue I'm having Bell's palsy more than 10 months,I recovered but not yet my left eye isn't huge like the other one and the lip isn't moving like the other one 🥲 +My left ear is paining also if there's too much noise or sometimes without noise;)
Hello, you should see at least minimal movement of the muscle (in every exercise). For example, if you are doing a smiling face and you see that the corner of the mouth on the affected side is slightly raising, you can safely exercise, because it means that the nerve pathway is open. If you are not sure whether there is minimal movement, you can stabilize the non-injured side and then try. However, we perform the exercises without stabilizing the healthy side.

Hello, you can find exercises for UCS in my other video about forward head posture: ua-cam.com/video/qR6VUPAw01s/v-deo.html Usually head protraction is accompanied by flat cervical spine, which in turn is conducive to disc herniations. Would this help someone like me who doesn't have Bell's palsy, but has asymmetry of both the visible facial features as well as movements of the face? E.g. my left side does not have as much movement as the right side, therefore my left eyebrow sits higher up and my smile is not as wide on the left side.
Hello, in first week rather not, because muscle contraction function usually does not return at this time. Typically, the first signs of return of function are seen in the 2nd week. You can check this by stabilizing the non-affected part of the face to see if movement occurs on the affected side. Then you have the green light to exercise. From my experience, Patients who start exercising too quickly and too intensely have a greater tendency to develop synkinesis.
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraid Thank you much Better for me to stop for now because I already tried since day 5. This is my 9th. I already finished taking up steroids for 3 days 3x a day. @@Conqueror00001Hot compresses has nothing to do with exercises, you can do it, sure. As for exercises, we start them when we see at least minimal muscle contraction. This means that if you do not see any reaction on the affected side when you try to perform a given movement, wait and try it the next day. And so on until you notice that the muscles contract slightly. Then you can start exercising in series, with larger numbers of repetitions. Why is it like that? because there is no point in sending information from the brain to the muscle if the nerve path is completely "impassable" (there is no contraction). Only when minimal contraction occurs does it make sense to help and facilitate a given movement.

Why should we wait for 2 weeks before we start the exercises? I was told the sooner the better? Love your video. Thank you!
Hello, that is an excellent question. The reason why I recommend starting exercise after about 2 weeks is physiology. For the first dozen or so days after the Bell's palsy, the nerve is practically completely paralyzed, i.e. it is impossible to make almost any movement with the affected side of the face. Very helpful. Thank you!
1 exercise which mints plz ans
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraid Thanks to you for your response and suggestions. Take love.
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraid Hi, May I ask you one more question? May I Dye my head hair during Bells palsy? If possible, please reply. :)
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraidtrue I'm having Bell's palsy more than 10 months,I recovered but not yet my left eye isn't huge like the other one and the lip isn't moving like the other one 🥲
+My left ear is paining also if there's too much noise or sometimes without noise;)
Just.... Thanks 🙂
I'm suffering from bells palsy right now. I hope this exercise can help. Please cheer me up!
Hey have you recovered now plzz reply I am also suffering from same!
thank you
Please tell me how much movement should my effected side have before I start exercising. This is my 41st day and I have miniscule movement. Thank you
Hello, you should see at least minimal movement of the muscle (in every exercise).
My dad was diagnosed with bell’s palacy about 7 days ago. He can just blinking his eye. Should he wait for 1 week before he start the exercises?
Thanks🎉
Excellent
its been many years since i was diagnosed with bell palacy but still there is some difference between both two sides, what should I do ?
I am facing the same problem. I am looking for accupunture and will try facial exercises
Hi. Do you suggest the exercised to be done on both sides? Other videos suggest the other side to be stretched/massaged.
alchol is one of the cause is this problem?
I have 17yrs I got facial paralysis a year ago, I took all the antibiotics, but I can still see a slight asymmetry on my face... if anyone knows how to help I would be grateful
Same I need recommendation
I was diagnosed one week ago
I've had Bell's Palsy for three months. My smile has improved significantly, but my right eye still doesn't blink like my left. How long did it take some of you to fully recover?
❤❤❤thanks you soo much.
Hi madam, please can u make video for upper cross syndrome with cervical disc herniation.
Hello, you can find exercises for UCS in my other video about forward head posture: ua-cam.com/video/qR6VUPAw01s/v-deo.html
Usually head protraction is accompanied by flat cervical spine, which in turn is conducive to disc herniations. However, it is worth discussing the exercises that I show there with your doctor and physiotherapist - remember that Dr Google doesn't exist :)
Have a great day!

I don't know if you read this comment but i really wanted to know the answer.
So 4 years ago when i was 13 years old i was in a car crash and ever sincem y right of face doesn't move and i rarely did exercises.
I wanted to know if it is possible to recover now after 4 years ?
Hey. I hope you're doing well. I want to share something with you. In jan 2022 i was diagnosed with GBS. The variant was AIDP. I became completely paralyzed. I was on ventilator for 18 days and was in hospital for almost 2 months. It took me 4 months to completely recover. Now i have bilateral facial palsy. I have done NCS test several times and it shows that my facial nerves are almost recovered. Right now i cant laugh properly and dont have proper expressions. My facial muscles are weak. I need your help.
I have this paralise since i was 6. Now im 28. Do u think that i can gett better with those exercises😢

I am a woman who suffered from the seventh nerve palsy while I was pregnant. I have been suffering from it for 14 years. My eyes are very small and my smile is on the side. Is there a treatment for my condition? Because exercises did not help me much.
I’m healing but it keeps going back and forth and the muscles on my chin don’t seem to be healing and I get stabbing pains sometimes

Would this help someone like me who doesn't have Bell's palsy, but has asymmetry of both the visible facial features as well as movements of the face? E.g. my left side does not have as much movement as the right side, therefore my left eyebrow sits higher up and my smile is not as wide on the left side.
Clearly explained. Thank u❤
I am very sad because facial paralysis
I just need to be able to close my eyes in three weeks because I have a fight, really bad timing
This work don't take tension
Can I do these exercise on my 1st week?
Now Im just taking up aspirin 81 and B12. Is it ok to do hot compress or better to start on 2nd week? Now my face feel numb.
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraid So far i dont have that Synkinesis.. Better to stop exercise for now.. Can I do hot compress in it or not?
@@katephysiotherapistwithbraid Thank you so much for the info. 🙏 It helps alot. Is it natural to feel little pain and numb on jaw to left eyebrow?
I have no bell's palsy but I have asmyteriycal face can I do this excercise bcz my left side face is more saggy tell me please
