Best video on moon clips ! I was trying to find a video to send to a friend on moon clips . Because we are going shooting and he buying a Smith thank you. Also thank you for your services
Put the clip in your box with the bullets facing up and the moon clip on the bottom and you won't have to worry about the bullets falling out of the moon clip
I use moon clips made for specific ammunition tk. I have never had a round fall out custom. If you look, you can find a moon clip that fits your brand of ammo well. When carrying for defense, moon clips are fine. With practice they do not get bent and can be loaded into the cylinder faster than a speedloader. One person's opinion.
It should be pretty easy to fabricate the moon clips using a waterjet cutter. very fast too. I feel the speed loader could be made lighter, it looks very chunky.
Nice video and a question or comment more on the moon clips. I’ve used them before with Smith And Wesson and with Ruger revolvers. And I did have some issues with the factory ones. I got the better made ones from TK Custom and I never had an issue with him falling out of the grooves, or binding up in the cylinder. I carried many years for self-defense and for duty as a security guard. Never had an issue not one with the TK Custom movie clips.
thanks for the info because standard round speed loaders won't clear my factory Taurus grips. I'm guessing that the squared loaders might just do the trick!
I make custom holsters and I just bought the Rhino 60ds.... I'm thinking of making a hybrid kydex/leather holster with suede inside. Personally, I like a holster that has high retention. I got to say, I absolutely love this pistol. I've never been fond of revolvers because I'm left-handed and it's always awkward to reload. 🤷♂️
I recommend that you load some dummy practice rounds for practice and demonstration purposes. Keep live cartridges away from the handgun, until preparing to shoot or carry.
I’m feeling very lucky that I live 15 minutes from 5 Star. They were the easiest way to get the speed loader for my 8-round Taurus, and now if I pick up the Chiappa, I can grab that loader as well.
I’ll take moonclips over a speed loader anytime. To each their own. In as quick as a speed loader and out much easier than loose brass left behind. You go to clear the shells under pressure and one is left dangling, you’re fucked. Carry for defense use the moon clips. A fresh clip won’t drop the rounds. It’s only after they have been used.
I wonder if the zombieland one has them..? Those are "push button" not "twist" I heard. Which sounds useful, as you j ust press and jam the rounds in without fiddling more.. not sure
The comment about the fight, not caring where it goes.. while that is true. Starting your first set with a moon clip means that when you eject. You get them alll out faster and fairly more likely (expanded cases, grit, etc). Which makes reloading a tad more efficient no?
Your thinking isn't wrong. A small consequence is that you'd be throwing away moon clips. I like to practice and train with what I'll be using in a fight. The same consequence . . . only this time, throwing away speed loaders.
@@inyourdefense0 I don't know what they're like round your way, but moon clips are about 4 bucks each here, whereas a single speedloader can easily pass 35 or 40 bucks... Edit: That 5-star one is £43.95, at our local shop.... OUCH!!
@@inyourdefense0 Yup - Welcome to Europe, eh!! Doesn't really matter I guess, as we can't carry guns anyway... Probably a good thing, given how high our crime rates are despite being unarmed. Letting us have guns would only make it worse!
@@Sarrienne The fact is that violent crime decreases as the number of armed citizens increases. That's because bad guys know that unarmed people can't easily protect themselves. Then of course in your country you also probably have offensive weapons laws.
Never had a problem with moon clips losing a round unless I've reused said moon clip several times and the metal is slightly bent or something like that. I've got 3 revolvers I use moon clips with quite a bit and that's the only time it ever becomes an issue of sorts. I have however had speed loaders with the push to release get accidentally depressed and ALL the rounds fall out. Not had that issue with speed loaders that require you to turn a knob, however I've timed myself using speed loaders vs moon clips and when using the push button speed loaders vs moon clips, timing is about the same. Using ones that require the turn of a knob, it's a bit slower. Frankly I believe I'm fast enough with ANY option to run them effectively but I'd rather have the push button speed loaders or moon clips. Now, carrying moon clips on your person is another story... There's certain ways to do it and have it be effective. As the moon clips are just thin pieces of metal they can bend real easily. I've got little pouches I can put 2 moon clips in sitting on top of each other, and it's not so rigid they get smashed or bent, it's possible with a hard fall I could damage them but honestly even with speed loaders that seems like it could be a risk. I generally though for carry purposes will use a speed loader. However, the purpose for the moon clips in the guns I have aside from potential range is is increased versatility in a situation where things have gone south and ammo might be short. Lets some of my revolver shoot up to 12 different calibers. But again, for primary carry use with any of those revolvers in question, I'm likely to use a speed loader with the primary defensive caliber for said gun I often use. So really.. I think it depends on the situation and how much experience you have with them. I'm comfortable and confident enough to carry moon clips loaded on my person and use them if need be. I just often dont feel the need to do so.
@@inyourdefense0 One way to carry either moon clips or speed loaders is like how old police officers used to do. Slide them onto your belt on your strong side using the space between the rounds with the belt in the gap to hold it in place. If your belt is on firm enough they do stay in place fairly well. Downside is they can be a bit hard to pull off the belt(I've tried) but with speed loaders its less of an issue. Just dont seat them so deep on the moon clips.
@@Predalien195 I have Safariland Comp I, II. and III, and none of them require you to puch a button. When you use the speedloader, a rod, for lack of a better word, in the center contacts the extractor star and pushes in, releasing the rounds.
Moon clips are no good for defensive rounds. For whatever reason defensive rounds (think silver brass hollow points) are looser in moon clips and usually all come loose in a pocket. Speed loaders and speed strips are the staple, but speed strip reins superior if you consider the fact that they are smaller making it easier to hold more rounds.
The Rhino is a cool looking gun. Titanium cylinder, aluminum frame, a small butt with add-on grips to decide the size and it will be king. I don't shoot with two hands because I was born with a gun in my hand.
If you get the right size moon clips they don’t fall out. Each brand is slightly different in diameter of casings. If you go to TK Customs they tell you which cases each part number of moon clip fits best. And buy the loading tool because they fit tight. If you can slide them in easily you have the wrong ones
Just one comment: Thank you for your dedicated service and as a Vietnam Veteran, Welcome Home, sir.
Thank you, Jason!
I have this great gun. And I bought the speed loader and 10 moon clips. The moon clips bend sometimes and occasionally the rounds do fall out.
My smith&Wesson 38 +p bodyguard to the rescue I use speedbeez speed reloader great video my good Sir.
I like the 5 Star speedloader they work great on my 686 plus, very reliable.

Moon clips also eject all cartridges out at once.

Hell yeah I have the 5 star for my Taurus raging Hunter in 44mag when I concealed carry. They fit good in my pocket

The speed loaders are awesome. Own several for my Rhino.
Ten dollar (HKS M3) speed loaders work perfectly with my Rhino .357 3 inch.

Which model of the speed loader did you buy? They seem to sell different models for different revolvers.
