  • Hi! Welcome to 5 minutes Cantonese.
I am Amanda from Hong Kong. I enjoy language learning. I speak cantonese, english, mandarin, Italian and German.
I guess whenever you tell the Cantonese speakers that you want to learn Cantonese. They will appreciate a lot, but the next minute they will tell you it's very difficult, almost like a mission impossible. So at the end you try to memorize few expressions by heart or simply give up.
I am not a professional teacher, but I am a professional student. I love to share how I learn language and try to use my own stupid way to teach you. I hope I can help you to make some simple sentences. Don't just try to surprise your cantonese friend with Cantonese foul language(I know it's the easiest way). But you know what I mean... 😂
I have another channel to teach Cantonese in italian. I put English subtitles there. Hope you enjoy.
As I mentioned, I am not a professional teacher. Please leave me comments if you have any.
Sorry, I have made a typing mistake of "to buy", 買 ,it should be "maai5" instead of "Maan"
    Thank you!

I am Amanda from Hong Kong. I make easy and practical cantonese learning videos for complete beginners to intermediate level.
My full time job is a flight attendant. I enjoy studying foreign languages. My job allows me to visit many places and meet many people. So that I have more chances to practice what I have learned.
Due to the covid, I haven't fly regularly for over a year. I find UA-cam is extremely helpful for maintaining my language proficiency. One day, out of curiosity, I looked for cantonese learning channels. I was so surprised that there are so little and most of the good one are even from overseas. That's why I started "5 minute cantonese" on 2020.

Dear Amanda, Normally, someone teaching Cantonese misses out the pronouns or concentrates on the tones and the learner is overwhelmed after a few minutes. The way you teach is excellent.

Although this video alone will probably take me a week to understand, which me I’ll have a reaaaallly long way to go, I still feel your channel will help the best. Super vanilla and boring, but Japanese engaged me into learning other languages. Je peux parler le français un peu et eu aprendi português há 2 anos, but Cantonese is my new passion haha. I’ve always wanted to learn a Chinese language. I tried Mandarin for a while before realising that it’s not really as common in America, at least where I live. Cantonese is really where it’s at, especially in Chinatowns. Plus there’s a lot of similarities with Japanese in vocabulary tbh. けっこうね tho! It’s really cool to meet someone else who’s genuinely interested in a language that’s often looked over. :)

Great first introduction. I''m getting very fluent in mandarin and looking for something else to learn. Cantonese I think would help me understand overall chinese culture.
