A little note, at 4:24, the English translation for 你哋係唔係唔舒服呀? [nei5-dei6 hai6-m4-hai6 m4-syu1-fuk6 aa3?] should be "are you (plural) not feeling well?" Not "are they," apologies for the oversight!
Your lessons explain things so well and give great examples. They give me that back in school learning from a real teacher feeling 👨🏫. Makes me take learning a bit more seriously. Thank you Carmen. Keep up the great work!
This is a good video for the people who want to learn cantonese. Just a tiny little comment about the intonation of 怕醜。我係native ,會聽成係一個問句「佢/佢哋好怕醜?」所以如果正常語調下時我哋都會偏向第五聲. And be cautious of some of the intonations were too low for learner to differentiate the difference between the 5th and 6th tones and 2nd and 5th tones . Sometimes it sounds weird to native speakers
Thank you for your feedback, I have noted this down. I'm also a native Cantonese speaker and it is true that in daily spoken Cantonese, our tones are less distinguished and we also have a tendency to tweak the pronunciation and tone of certain words (a phenomenon called tone sandhi). I try to teach as closely to the Jyutping system as I can because it's easier for learners to search up in a dictionary. There are many nuances in Cantonese that are very hard to teach without overcomplicating, so I am currently working on providing simpler examples.
Very good video for Cantonese learner. By the way, at 4:24 of the video, there is a typo for English translation of "你哋係唔係唔舒服呀?", it should be "Are you not feeling well?" instead of "Are they...". FYI.
Thanks for the video. For the reflexive pronouns (the last example), could you move zi6-gei2 to the end of the sentence instead? Similar to the I bought a present for myself example?

Yes you can! In your example, "I bought a present for myself" you can translate this to "我買禮物俾(我)自己 [ngo5 maai5 lai5-mat6 bei2 (ngo5) zi6-gei2]"
👍👍👍
