Thanks for the video. I think I'll be getting the regular version. That xl has too much setup for me. I had no idea it came with all those extra pieces to put together for that awning
Must be an older version. Ours came with 3 poles that go through the tent and attach to the inner frame, then one long one that goes from side to side. Nice mod on yours.
@@AndersonOverland after hearing about your horror story, I'm glad they made the upgrade too. Next time I have it open, I will try to remember to take some photos to show you.
This just happened to us also...and we are on the road now traveling....can you give me a little more on the size of the pipe? we are going to try & build what you did...great idea & thanks for your help!
Sebastian N I just used 1/2” PVC. Just measure our across the center top.....all you need is like two pieces really. As soon as we get to camp tonight in Utah, I can send you my measurements. Feel free to call me too. 909-890-7957 - Joey
Joey, thank you for this video. My wife and I are looking to make a 2-3 month cross country trip using a RTT on our Subaru Outback. We are very interested in this tent and I'm very glad I saw your video addressing this weak-point in the design. One question, because we will be using it daily, is your awning frame easy to assemble/disassemble and store with the tent? Does it even have to be removed when stowing the tent? I would love to see a follow-up video showing how this affects the deployment and stowing of the tent. Great idea!
I can tell you they heard you... I just got my xl and there are now bars included that lock in like what you did. It goes into the tent and locks on the out bar and keep it up. It also has cross bars in the middle to help with sagging
I have ordered this model tent and have yet to install it on my trailer. I have been wondering about this as a potential problem. Do you store your additional parts inside the tent and just assemble the parts when you set up each time? About how much extra time do you think this adds to the set up? Thanks. Looks like a good and cheap solution.
Awesome idea!! Just got mine setup temporarily on my trailer and done exactly what yours did.. I'll be building a frame for mine asap

No, we store them all in our trailer that it sits on. It only adds a few minutes.
Did you have the pull down straps pulled tight? I’m sure this is possible but I find it hard to believe if set up correctly.
CR Mills Believe it! We are on the road with this thing 3/4 of the year my friend. We set it up properly. Poor design.
The same thing just happened to me, broke the aluminum bar due to it bending so bad. Had my guy wires really tight, too.
Nice mod!!!
