This goes to show that not every soldier on anyones side was bad nor good. It all depends entirely on situation and circumstances. But this battle was indeed what cleared the dispute of "All germans were bad" or the "every enemy is bad".
Even some German POWs defected. In Lawrence County, Tennessee a large POW camp at the end of the war released several hundreds of prisoners of which a large number elected to stay in the US rather than return to their home land.
@@HistoryBuff I'm British (so I'm from a winning country of the war) and I'm sick of the black and white portrayal of WW2. Not all Germans were Nazis and a film that humanises the Germans would be a welcome opportunity
Thanks for checking it out, one of my favorite incidents from WW2. As others are pointing out there is also a Sabaton song about this and an episode of Sabaton History. In hindsight I should probably have requested that one for more details but this one has the nice animations :)

Most of those germans had no family anymore because of the bombing, murder and suicides
The fact that there's no film about this subject yet is unbelievable
I want to see Gilbert Godfrey beating up soldiers with a tennis racket!

@Oliver Sherman 2 yea. I said something similar in Rammstein's Deutschland and it got so heated, I finally turned the comments off
@@HistoryBuff I think people just want to be angry. If you say anything contrary to the status quo people lose their sh*t just because they can
